When I taught home economics, we taught that pressing was up and down and ironing was back and forth like you did. Pressing, if up and down, doesn't distort.

Do the same issues about distortion apply if you steam iron alll your fabrics before cutting and then only dry iron your blocks? I'm thinking pre-steaming may avoid later shrinking when washing a quuilt, Thank you for the great videos,

If you are working with blenders you will hardly notice. The problem of distortion is really noticeable when you are working with Printed blocks, border prints and panels. Steaming can really distort the design and make it difficult to cut evenly. Thank you for watching.

Be careful to not press to long on cutting mat. I now have a warped cutting mat cuz I wasn’t thinking of the bottom heat
