Be wary about pesticide, moth, pill bugs, worms, fungus and more can thrive off this blend just as much as your birds do if it isn’t kept closed tightly with limitation of air flowing in and out of this blend since they all can live perfectly happy in dry stuff, I recommend keeping the big tub absolutely closed shut and maybe even wrapped tightly with a plastic bag, I would recommend only using a portion of one kilo tub or ziplock bag as the container that you take daily meals out of, to limit the ability of pesticides and mold growth- when the one kilo portion is done go to the “mother tub” and portion your next kilo for the next few weeks. That way the big tub doesn’t have constant air flow and everything is kept at bay. Large birds usually can eat about 3 tablespoons of food per meal, if they eat more it is okay but it is always good to limit extra waste. BEAUTIFUL DRY MIX THANK YOU! How lovely!
@ShelbyTheMacaw2 жыл бұрын
Yes this is such an important consideration. The large tub is sealed tightly and is accessed only once every few months to fill a smaller container which we take daily food from.
@GuyBelievesInWorldPeace2 жыл бұрын
@@ShelbyTheMacaw ohh okay good! I remember how disappointed I get every time pesticide get to the things I like. I am glad that you’re aware of it because having so much beautiful food is precious and it is important to keep it well secured! 🦜🌻🪷

I am SO bookmarking this video! TYSM Carly and Dan 👍👍👍💯💯💯 Cheeky around 7:30 mark 😉 👏👏👏 Carly for the patience with the favourite toddler 😂🤣 I wonder about the small seeds, like chia... Given that both small and big pieces get mixed in one bowl, how to make sure that the birbs get in them any of the tiniest ones? Or they just vacuum clean the bowl?!
@ShelbyTheMacaw2 жыл бұрын
Awww thank you. I’m so glad we are helping people. And yes, trying to continue talking whilst being covered in plants is interesting. Only bird people could possibly relate 😂😂 as for the chia etc, macaws are extremely dexterous and agile and can easily pull them out of the mix, despite their huge beaks. They do tend to clean the bowl with minimal waste and leftovers too which is helpful!

My question is will our birds actually live longer, because the pet birds that up till now have lived up to 80 were mostly on crap diets, I’d love to be able to look a hundred years into the future and see what the results of these diet changes will be, they could start to live longer…be great to see the long term results, ..I never fed pellets, they just never made sense to me..before getting our bird ,diet was D most important thing for me, my chop is amazing, but the dry end wasn’t quite as good as this…till I saw the video on C& N,s channel I literally went to Dublin that day n got most of these, some I’ve had to have shipped, & all my birds love it, pigeon lovebird and macaw, this dry mix is great for all your birds, not just macaw..love it..n yes omg the smell..great video, loved the bloopers at the end,

I have a great deal of trouble putting weight on my African Grey. She's on the small side - 400 GM. But, she recently went down to 390 GM, which is discouraging. My Avian vet had given her a clean bill of health. I've been giving her veggies become I keep hearing that nuts and seeds are bad for them (although I always question that because sunflower seeds and walnuts are known to contain healthy omega 3). I think I will start giving her more calorie dense food and perhaps one walnut a day. She's only 6 months old and is still given night formula. I currently free fly her indoors and will soon move on to outdoors FF. She's extremely active so I don't think I need to worry about giving her more nuts and seeds...
@ShelbyTheMacaw2 жыл бұрын
Babies require more fats than adult birds so don’t be afraid to up her fat intake. Mixing a spoonful of hazelnut butter in her chop won’t hurt. Greys need more seeds than macaws too so make sure she is getting a decent heaped teaspoon of seeds in the evening

Please help!
@ShelbyTheMacaw2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I’m no professional and so I can only go by my own experiences but it sounds like your baby is begging. The wing flicking and honking sounds are a begging behaviour, usually showing that the bird is hungry. Depending on the current diet you may need to give some extra food / fats. But again, I couldn’t really say. Maybe have another chat with the vet
@cindystory51402 жыл бұрын
Is this considered better than fresh? Or is it a supplement?
@ShelbyTheMacaw2 жыл бұрын
It’s in addition to. At 6:21 I explain that we still give a fresh organic chop every morning, that’s vital for ensuring the birds are hydrated and full of living food (sprouting mix etc), the dry mix adds another variety to their diet and is great enrichment. Variety is key with parrots

You’re right. It can’t. Which is why lots of us are coming together to make many videos covering many aspects of diet, to ensure lots of people see that it’s possible to make the change! And I do believe they did provide a list of ingredients in their dry mix video, but also provided an over 1 hour long video about the science behind giving a healthy diet. They’re doing their best ❤️

Check their "no more pellets" in slow mo 😉 You'll be able to catch both the ingredient as well as the producer for most of the bags. But I agree, a recipe (or more!) would be helpful!
@Bobbiewhale2 жыл бұрын
I thought Mikey and Mia's "mummy and daddy humans" did a great job explaining their parrots diets, and their reasons/science behind it. They also arent experts (nor do they claim to be), so they aren't going to tell people, feed your bird exactly this, because they are going to be 100% correct, in fact even experts say that they don't even know an exact diet for parrots, because they haven't been studied long enough. But what they have done, and like this video does is share the mist recent info out there, and show how we can do the best we can, with the knowledge we have. They also gave many links to their resources, so if you go back to the video, you can find those and maybe you will come up with a different mix you can share with others too :)
