One of the main symptoms of Sjogren’s Syndrome is dry mouth. This is known as xerostomia, a condition where your salivary glands don’t produce enough saliva in your mouth. As many of you probably already know, saliva plays an important role in keeping your mouth healthy. It helps to wash away food and debris. It can also help provide disease-fighting substances to help prevent cavities and infections.

I just got diagnosed with this syndrome two days ago. And my dentist almost a month ago, told me I needed to get lab work done because all my lower teeth are all decayed and filled with cavities due to the dry mouth. I was honestly sad because never felt like I was understood by anyone until I came across your video.

Yesterday I had an appointment with my rheumatologist and he said my labs came back positive for sjogrens syndrome and I remember you had made this video so I came to check it out and it cleared up so many things that are wrong and I will be working to correct from now on! I use Biotene rinse several times during night when I get up to go to bathroom. You can get on Amazon or any pharmacy. It tastes like scope but with a moisturizer substance in it. I could not live without this product. Relatively inexpensive.

My teeth kept crumbling where my fillings were. I finally ended up getting dentures for my uppers and am preparing for my lowers. This started slowly beginning in 2006

My problem is the lupus makes me so tired that I end up falling asleep before I brush my teeth. That happens at least 3 times a week. The fatigue is terrible.

Me too, I now have a mouth full of crowns, I’ve spent thousands on dental work thus far and the extreme dry mouth is so frustrating, I do take medication but I don’t see much difference. I do have lupus.

I go to the dentist 3x a year, and always ask for a fluoride varnish. They paint it right on your gumline. It helps a lot.

Interesting, I've been experiencing dry mouth ever since my episode with parotitis. The gland swelling returned a short time ago but now with me knowing what it was I reversed it. I could sense the swelling on the same side. I attribute it to caffeine intake as well as hydration. I have to get into the habit of bringing a glass of water to bed like my wife does. It's no fun getting old. Thank you for tips and insight.

Thanks for the video. I was never officially diagnosed but I have the traditional symptoms of dry mouth and dry eyes. I caught mine early (although I don't know what good that is going to do long term) because my mouth is not bone dry just noticeably drier than usual and my eyes feel irritated from time to time. As soon as the rheumatoligst suspected I had it, I went vegan and following Dr Brooke Goldner's protocol which helped with a numerous amount of symptoms that were and were not caused by sjogren's. The dry mouth and eyes do persist. Didn't you go raw vegan? Was it helpful?

I use biotene dry mouth gel at night. Xmelts dont work for me.

I have been diagnosed with sjogren's for some time, not until I saw a rheumatologist did I really understand that I have severely dry mouth, and severely dry eyes that causes blurry vision. My teeth and mouth as so dry that I feel like its sandpaper. Is there anything that can be done about that? I just had a cleaning, and at first I thought maybe I just needed a cleaning - but it not. My tongue is so sore from rubbing it against my teeth, that I can't stop doing. Any suggestions would be great!

I got prescribed cevilemine for dry mouth and it honestly helps keep my mouth moist. As for dry eyes, I still struggle with that. Ask your rheumatologist about Restasis

My sister has Lupus, Sjogren's Syndrome and really bad Gerd (acid reflux). Bad combo for sure.

My labs came back negative for Sjogren, but I do have xerostomia for 20+ years. Doctor believe that I have Sjogren anyways. Does anyone was diagnosed with Sjogren even with anti-Ro and anti-La negative?

Does anyone with Sjogren’s deal with persistent tonsil stones? Those little stinky things that get in the crevices of your tonsils? Oh my gosh! They are so nasty 🤢 fortunately I have learned to remove them myself or I would be at the dentist every week. I’m assuming it’s caused from lack of saliva to flush it. No matter what I do or how many times I brush , floss gargle I still get these nasty tonsil stones. As long as I remove them the pain goes away but if you leave them in it can cause tonsillitis. Always gargle with salt water after removing them. 👍🏼😊

Hi...i Have Sjogren syndrome....and yes i experienced those tonsil stones for almost a year on the right tonsil...it was horrible...they were big and nasty... but then suddenly they went away and instead of that i have now green phlegm ..it's been a more than a year that i have this green nasty phlegm almost everyday (especially in the morning) and of course i went to an ENT doctor and she did all the tests ( blood test, phlegm , even lung xray) but there was nothing wrong...so i think it's because of sjogren...

Has anyone tried the prescription meds that stimulate saliva? They are called pilocarpine and evoxac (sp?)

I started using them a few weeks ago and was so excited when I took my first one because of all the saliva that it was producing but my joy didn’t last much cause the effect only lasted like an hour. There is times that I take it and feel like I never took a pill. 🥲

Because of Sjogren's Syndrome, I need to have all of my teeth removed and get false teeth. My eyes feel like sand most days. My skin stays dry. There's also the awful joint pain, brain fog, sinus and lung infections and so so many more things.. It's not easy at all. No matter how much I brush and floss, my teeth decayed anyway. I hope yours don't.

It's a big fear of mine and I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. There is so much to Sjogren's and I think many don't realize it can affect nearly any part of the body. I'll have to make a full overview video in the future to raise more awareness on that. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Sorry you’re dealing with this. I do not have experience with dry nose. I would recommend talking with your doctor. I hope you are able to find a solution!

Biotene gel works for me at night. Tried the xylimelts and they just stuck to the roof of my mouth. My problem is because of dry mouth I never know when I’m thirsty so I end up being dehydrated all the time. Sounds like a simple fix but before I realize it’s already to late. Also have a mouth full of crowns by the way.

I'll have to give the biotene gel a try. That is a good point about being thirsty. I can see myself doing that as well now that I think about it. Never even thought about that!
