I have had Sjogren's for 8-15 years or so. I was diagnosed in 2020 with a biopsy of the salivary gland. That was not great and if I had to do it all over again I would probably just assume I had Sjogren's and treat myself naturally anyway. I cannot take HCQ which is the most common prescription for Sjogrens as it made my palpitations worse. I also could not take the medication for dry mouth as it too made my mouth even more dry. The items that have helped me the most is Xylimelts especially during the night and Systane eye drops at night and sometimes during the day. I also use Spry mints, a humidifier, Doterra lemon drops in my water or real lemon slices. I use very clean lotions and cleansers and use oils as often as possible on my face and skin. I take cod liver oil, selenium and a few other supplements. I try to walk as often as possible-movement is so important. I also use a waterpik which I love and also a rotary toothbrush. Oral health is so important. I also floss daily before I go to bed. For sleep I use essential oils on my spine or on the bottom of my feet. In particular I use, Peace, Cedarwood, Lavender and others. I mix it up a bit. Essential oils help me immensely. For pain I use essential oils and occasionally have to switch to a prescription medication or ES Tylenol when I am in a flare. I worked with a Root Cause Clinic and they shared with me that many with Sjogren's can have opposite reactions to supplements/medications etc. They also can have opposite results with hyaluronic acid or collagen as we don't typically have the moisture within our bodies to make these effective. I find this to be true. Thanks for your video. I will check out your others.

I ate 4 tins of sardines a day for a week and I now don't have dry eyes any more and my mouth is no longer dry. I eat sardines about 3 x week now to maintain the tears and saliva. What the body needs is Vitamin A. Not beta-carotene. But real, animal based, Vitamin A. And the omega 3s. I also massage the salivary glands and tear ducts. Vitamin D status is also important. Vitamin D is an immune modulator and adequate Vitamin D levels are crucial to control auto-immune conditions. But the sardines, man that was miraculous! Oh, and I was diagnosed about 25 years ago and only just figured this out this year.

It changed my life!!! After being on it off and on for 3 years, my eyes went into a kind of remission. While I still have occasional dry eyes, it has not gotten bad again, and it's been nearly 15 years. I highly recommend Xylitol gum for dry mouth. Xylitol is something our bodies make and not a synthetic drug. Xylitol sugar is the bomb! Tastes great, is all natural, and it helps to keep your mouth biome healthy.

Hi first time watching your channel. There is only one thing you said, that I find some disagreement with. I am a very fair skinned, person living in Florida. I'd ALWAYS had to use a sun screen to avoid burning. However, after being on a "health journey" of my own because I had developed Type 2 Diabetes. I removed all grains, all processed foods, and all sugar of any kind. I now consume a very simple diet with one ingredient foods. What i've found is that it takes me 3x as long to begin to burn in the sun. I am a big believer in getting out into the sun for at least 30 mins per day for Vitamin D absorption. Sunscreen prevents the absorption of natural Vitamin D from Sunshine. I have spoken with many people who have given up sugar/grains/processed foods and they all have said they no longer need to wear sunscreen and do not burn like they used to. This would make for an interesting blog post/video that might be helpful for others. Thank you so much for your video - it was very helpful in many ways.

Do you feel like sugar triggers symptoms?
@MollyKateMcCarthy5 жыл бұрын
Joni I have never found that correlation! But doctors recommend sugar free candies bc dry mouth can already lead to dental issues, so why add sugar on top of that? Haha
@stormywallbrecher32825 жыл бұрын
I would agree with your question and the answer, let me just add my two cents. Whenever I consume a lot of sugar I feel overall kind of crappy, and I would get this weird tightness in my lower chest. My GP and Rheumy said to really watch my sugar intake because too much of it can inflame your body, and your body is kind of already inflamed bc its being mistakenly attacked by your immune system. After I started watching my sugar intake, the tightness went away and I didn't feel as crappy. Sorry for the long reply and hope it helps :)
@NOSHITification3 жыл бұрын
You should stay away from sugar. I have had Sjogrens for 15 years, possibly longer than that. If you have dry mouth, it destroys the salvia which is critical in coating and Protecting your teeth. Unfortunately, I know too much about this. I have spent year's at the dentist. I'm still dealing with my teeth breaking off. I've had root canals in almost every tooth. I drink alkaline water and buy special toothpaste and everything I can find to help. Nothing is helping and I am now disabled and have no dental insurance. Please be careful with sugar intake. I hope this helps ☺️

Quindi adoro davvero i colliri Thera Tears. La mia email è Molly a balanced and blissful punto com.
@rickylumo86663 жыл бұрын
Hey, everyone, it's Molly. Welcome back to my channel. Today I want to make a video showcasing some of my favorite products that I use to deal with the different symptoms of my Sjogren's Syndrome. So I'm not going to talk as much about the lifestyle and fatigue fighting tips. If you want those, you can check out my latest blog post, which is all about Sjogren's -- how I handle all of the symptoms, so definitely check that out; and if you want to see how I was diagnosed with Sjogren's I have a video about that down below, and also a video of a week in the life with Sjogren's. Today I'm going to be going over all of my favorite physical products for different symptoms. So I'll start with dry eyes. Sjogren's specifically attacks moisture-producing glands, so it causes a lot of dryness and dry eyes was the first dryness symptom that I got. The brand of eyedrops that I choose to use is called Thera Tears. They come in a little bottle like this, or you can get little single-use packets and I just use the regular drops, but they also have one that comes in single-use packets that's for nighttime use, so it's a bit thicker and it does leave your vision a little bit blurry, but it can really help overnight, because I used to sometimes find that I was waking up in the middle of the night with dry eyes and needing to apply eye drops when I was half asleep. So I really love the Thera Tears eyedrops. The important thing you want to do is to use an eye drop that does not have preservatives, and Thera Tears is probably the most popular one of that type. Then, I also recently, or maybe six months ago, went on a prescription eye drop. I went on Xiidra. Xiidra and Restasis are the two that are recommended, and that one comes in these little single-use packets that have about five in each, and it has just about enough in a vial to do a drop in each eye in the morning and a drop in each eye in the evening. Another thing that I use for my dry eyes is a heated eye mask. This is full of what are kind of like beans, almost. It's kind of like a heating pad. You microwave it for a short amount of time, say 30 seconds, and then you put it over your eyes. You can also strap it around your head and velcro-attach it and you look a bit like a bug. When you take it off, you'll find that your vision is somewhat blurred because your eye has produced natural oils, so that's a great thing to do, again, morning or night. If you do it at night time, it could help you sleep, because you won't be waking up with dry eyes. And then if you do it in the morning, it'll hopefully help kickstart your eyes' production of those oils. The other thing I do for dry eyes is I do use some supplements. So the brand I was talking about earlier, Xiidra tears, it makes a great supplement for dry eyes, which I used for a while, but now I use something called Omega 3-6-9. It's made by Sundown Naturals. I'll link this and all the produts below. This has really similar ingredients to the Thera Tears dry eye medication, but it's a little bit cheaper because it's not marketed as that. It's made with flax, fish and borage seed oils, and the Omega vitamins are really, really great for dry eyes, so that is a recommendation of something that I feel has helped me. Another thing that my eye doctor recommended was chia seeds, so I got these at Thrive Market. If you don't know, Thrive Market is a really great online marketplace where you can buy all kinds of healthy foods and skincare products at cheaper prices. This is not sponsored, but I will put a link to sign up down below if you're interested. So these are the Thrive brand chia seeds. I usually like to add them to my morning smoothie, so I just add a tablespoon, and these also have the Omega threes in them, which is what helps with the dry eyes. So, next, we can talk about dry mouth. I don't experience this as much, but I do get dry lips often, so what I use for dry lips is this really amazing lip balm. It's from a company called Red Apple Lipstick, which has all-natural products, and this is their Rally Balm. So, it's a clear lip balm that comes in a lipstick tube, and you just put it on. I use it a few times a day. It's so important. I see that it was actually formulated specifically for dryness from autoimmune diseases, such as Sjogren's or Crohn's, because they can cause dehydration, and then Celiac's, so it's gluten-free. It's free of any toxins, and it's a really, really nourishing lip balm. Then, for actual dry mouth, the biggest tip that I can give is to hydrate. Drink water throughout the day. Drink it in little sips, just consistently, and one huge Sjogren's trick is to add lemon to water because the acidity will encourage your salivary glands to produce more saliva. So, one thing I love to do is to use my infuser bottle. It's empty right now, but inside of this guy there's a little infuser, and you can add fruit to this, and then you stick it in the bottle. You add water, and it infuses it with the fruit. So, I really like to add lemon to this and then I'll leave it overnight in my fridge and when I wake up I have some nice, cold lemonade. This specific bottle is from Clean Skin Club. I'll link it down below. You have a discount code for that as well. Another thing that a lot of people use for dry mouth is lemon drops or other types of hard candy. I know that Act, which is a mouthwash company, makes specific dry mouth drops, but I just have to get these lemon drops. They're the CVS brand. Always make sure you get sugar-free. Sjogren's and dry mouth and all of that can cause cavities and dental problems anyway, so you want to avoid any extra dental decay. And just the acidity and the act of swishing around in your mouth helps encourage your salivary glands for more saliva. The last thing is that a lot of people who have dry mouth use dry mouth washes. I, personally, have not had to use those yet, but I do have this sample of one called Moisyn. I got this at the Sjogren's Syndrome Conference that I went to recently. Again, I know that Act makes a dry mouth wash, and Biotene is a really, really popular one as well. So, a couple of other miscellaneous products that I wanted to talk about -- the first one is CBD, which is super popular. You've probably been hearing about it a lot in the wellness world. I have a blog post all about CBD. I'll link that below, and I also do a lot of freelance writing for a CBD company called Alive Market, so I'll post their blog below. Lots of really cool information there, and I have a discount code for them. The two main products that I use from them are their CBD capsules and their CBD oil. I use one or the other. I don't use them both together, and actually started using these to help with my anxiety, but they're also really, really helpful for inflammation, and when you have an autoimmune disease, it basically automatically means that there's inflammation in your body. I like to either take a capsule every morning with my vitamins, or I'll take about half a dropper of the oil. The last thing is sunscreen. Sjogren's and other autoimmune conditions can cause photosensitivity or an extra sensitivity to the sun. I already have easily burnable skin, so I always wear sunscreen. I think it's super important, but one thing that I realized after I was diagnosed with Sjogren's was that even when I was wearing sunscreen, I was getting really, really itchy after I was out in the sun. So, I learned that it's really important to use a zinc-oxide-based sunscreen, and I like the more natural ones, so I like Babo Botanicals, I like Badger, I like ThinkSport. And then, I lied, the actual last thing that I'm going to talk about is the prescription I'm on, which is Plaquenil, or hydroxychloroquine. It's the most effective, safest medication for Sjogren's. You do have to be closely monitored by an ophthalmologist. I go every six months because a very, very small percentage of patients can have issues with their retinas, so you have to stay on top of your testing and make sure you catch that early, if it happens at all. And then, after that, there are a bunch of other medications that they might try. They might try methotrexate, or Rituxan, or even more drugs . . . they just keep going until one works. So, definitely, see your rheumatologist to talk about that. So, those are my favorite products for dry eyes, dry mouth, and then Sjogren's in general. As I said, I've linked a bunch of information down below. I talked about this stuff on my blog and I have some other KZbin videos about it, and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment below or email me. My email is Molly at balanced and blissful dot com. I'm on all the social medias -- you can find those down below, and I hope you guys have a good one! These are some of my favorite products that I use to deal with my Sjogren’s, an autoimmune disease that specifically attacks moisture-producing glands and can lead to excessive dryness.
