I'll demonstrate some dry needling to the gluteal muscles and lumbar muscles as well as the gluteus maximus. Frequently, dry needling to these areas can bring relief for SI joint pain, low back pain, hip pain, sciatica, other radiating pain, tight muscles, and trigger points.
Dry needling is not typically recommended as a "stand alone" treatment and is more effectively used in conjunction with a plan of therapeutic exercises, manipulation or mobilization, soft tissue treatments, or other physical medicine treatments.

I'm not gonna lie, I've had a number of patients comment something similar. My favorite is a kiddo who said "Mom, why does his voice always sound the same." I laughed. I know I'm a bit monotone sometimes but I do try to get the important information across with some inflection, I promise!

I had my 2nd dry needling with tens today on my lower back. I am blown away by the quick relief I am getting with this technique. Hallelujah. I've had to resort to quite a bit of pain medication for relief, up until now. I am so full of hope for an end to this debilitating problem.

It may help improve the function of the muscle if it's limited by myofascial trigger points. I'd have to dig into the research and see what it says about dry needling and muscle recruitment to know for sure!

Is there a reason you don't leave the needle in place for a period of time? Many thanks
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I will leave the needle in, especially if I use electric stimulation with it. In acupuncture I typically leave needles in for 20 minutes, but dry needling is a bit different than acupuncture (although similar in many respects, especially how it works.) Some providers will leave needles in, some will not. I typically take them out because I want to needle other areas that require the patient to position differently. Also, I've read that there isn't research showing that leaving the needles in gives a more beneficial effect, although it may be true but hasn't been shown in research yet. Thanks for checking out our videos!

Is this better than acupuncture?

That's a great question. They are very similar treatments in many ways but differ on the "why" and where needles are placed. Both treatments have value but which one is appropriate will vary patient to patient. Thanks for watching!

Does this work for lumbar Sprains?
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab Жыл бұрын
It's actually a great treatment at stimulating an increased healing response for sprains/strains. Combined with other treatments during an appointment like rehab exercises and/or spinal manipulation patients often get relief and recover quicker. Thanks for watching!

I'd say the dry needling is very similar with the mini-knife needling (小针刀) in China. I am taking that treatment now for my shoulder (60% rotator cuff injury + 40% frozen shoulder, according to my doctor). The problem was caused by the immune over-reaction of my body after taking the covid-19 vaccine. My immune system started to attack my shoulder which was injured 5-6 years ago in the gym!
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab Жыл бұрын
I had a patient a year ago who claimed her frozen shoulder developed following an injection. I have read some research that suspected this may happen if the needle is placed to high in the deltoid and towards the subacromial or GH joint space - although this was just a hypothesis. I wish you the best in your recovery!

@@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab It is said in Chinese medicine that the pathogen goes first to the weakest area, in this man's case his shoulder was previously injured establishing that vulnerability. I just wonder if the same reaction would have happened because of the prior injury regardless of how the shot was administered. It's interesting but I suppose we'll never know. To @Julio Chen, I hope you are doing well 3 months later.

@@Moshka627 I think that is a valuable perspective, many people will write off Chinese medicine, but the concepts are certainly prevalent in many areas of western medicine. Thanks for your input!

Do the needles hurt in the buttocks area?
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab
@JasonWilliamsDC-Chiro-Rehab 2 жыл бұрын
It really varies from person to person, but generally I don't find that dry needling creates severe discomfort. I've been needled there and the worst side effect for me is post-treatment soreness for a day or two - but it's worth the relief for me.

I see this is from 4 months ago... but I'm curious... If you never feel anything - did it help? In my experience, the fingers poking around hurt more than the needle, but, I've also noticed if someone doesn't feel ANYTHING... I probably haven't hit the trigger point. Generally, I'll find that there is be something... maybe not painful with the poke, but a twitch.. a burn... even just a subtle ache. I have noticed when I don't hit the spot, the texture of the tissue is different. Sometimes the sensation isn't much, but when the needle is rotated, it picks up the fascia within the tissue and increases the experience. If it's in the wrong spot, rotating the needle won't grab any fascia... so I generally will remove the needle and start again to see if there's a better spot.
HOW DID HE WIN? 😱
