I do dry point also on plexiglass in my studio off my small press. It also helps to understand pen and ink illustration as well because you can take those original pen and ink drawings and recreate them in dry point intaglio prints. I am looking to start my own printing firm like what Currier and Ives was in the 1800s but instead of Lithographs of my original illustrations I would be making Intaglio dry point prints of my original work.

I agree, it's very much like making a pen and ink illustration. That is a wonderful goal, I wish you the best with your printing firm!

Looks very good. I must try this out. How to create printed color areas on such an etched print? With relief printing blocks?
@starlustudio1498 Жыл бұрын
Yes, relief printing would work. I sometimes use watercolor and other media to colorize my work as well.

I was today years old when I learned about dry point etching. Now I want to try it! Your prints are lovely, and thank you for sharing how to print without a press (in one of your other videos). What thickness of plexiglass do you use? Thanks! ❤
@starlustudio14988 ай бұрын
I use recycled plexiglass from old ikea frames. They are thin. You can use thicker plexiglass but will have to round and burnish the sharp edges to prevent it from cutting your paper.

You should use ink to see what you've etched without removing the sketch. You can remove it after with water or lamp oil - if using oils.

You could if you like. :-)

This helped me a lot to move forward to etch my illustration. I noticed you just use a paper towel to rub the ink in. Do you ever use tarlatan? I took a few workshops that introduce me to akua inks. The inks you used are easy clean up with water? Thank@
@starlustudio1498 Жыл бұрын
I haven't used tarlatan yet but would love to try it some time. I have used Akua inks and they are fine but I prefer the Caligo Safewash inks when I print. It's just a personal preference. They wash up with soap and water.

It's a Dick Blick 1267 Etching Press. An old friend gifted this used one to me and I am so happy to have it!

Thanks! That’s very interesting! How many copies can be produced from matrix? And is it possible to use matrix after printing? Cause I have feelings that paint will stuck in matrix. Thanks)

I apply new ink every time I make a print. The plate is gently cleaned with soap and water removing all the remaining ink when I’m done printing. I print in small batches and haven’t tested to see how many prints I can get before the plate wears out.

Your video inspired me to get back into dry point etching. Thank you for sharing your process and making me feel like I can achieve similarly beautiful results (oh, the delusion! 😂)

Hi, what if i have white plexiglass
@starlustudio14983 жыл бұрын
I think that any plexiglass that can be scratched (etched) can work. Since I don't know what your white plexiglass looks like I can't say for sure. You may need to use a different method of design transfer to render your image onto the white plexiglass. Carbon paper might work. Also, If your plexiglass is thicker, you may need to file the edges down so it won't cut your paper when you print.
