My gut tells Me that the name Kownoer comes from the name of the town Kowno or Kovno (now Kaunas in Lithuania). American would pronounce it as 'covner' ('cov-' as in 'a covert'), I guess.

Never had that but what intrigued me before I started dipping was the ammonia smell off the can. I’d grab my buddies can just to smell it.

Mr suit and Tie, any recommendation for procuring nasal snuff here in the States? I've used my snuff and love it, just wondering what other alternatives toque I can't seem to get to work. Thanks in advance awesome review and I always love your suit pins well and just general professionaism. the ammonia is a sign that the tobacco is still fermenting. in the world of cigars, we see this as a sign that the cigar is fresh (needs more aging) but in snuffland, I imagine we would see this as a sign of freshness (hasn't been sitting on the shelf for a long time).

The spelling with w is the historic spelling and the word "feinster" is no longer on the packaging because the word "fein/fine" is no longer legal to describe tobacco products (along with words like mild and light). Also the letter K is never silent in german. ATB fron Germany Raven

A pity this production line chose to stop producing snuff, they had some really good products.
