Instead of using the aquasoil powder to cover up the white spots of the toilet paper you can also grind 2 lavarocks against each other and use the dust that comes off . I did this and it looks the same as the lava rock plus it gets as hard as the lavarock

Very smart, and no need to vacuum. Or, at least apply (any) powder before returning the hardscape to the tank. The result: your aquarium stays powder-free.

Wow... I am going to do this dry-start method to apply java moss to several small red lava stones in my 10 gallon tank. After a few weeks, I'll transfer them into my 75 gal mbuna tank. @@shiyadh7355 those are great too! But java moss still has it's perks, like being really low maintenance (not needing aquasoil) and it's appearance (it looks like thick grass!). I grew my java moss in 1 month with the moss paste method, but I did it on rocks and not on the substrate. I decided to try this method after watching the video. Since I don't have the tank yet, I put the rocks and wood in a large plastic storage bin from a discount store and then covered the bin with a thin piece of glass taken from unused framed photos and prints in my basement. If you don't have any of those you could go to a discount store and simply buy the cheapest frame or framed print in the size you want, remove the glass and throw the frame away. I also bought a cheap but very bright twin LED light from a home improvement store. I had to add a plug to it but it's putting out much more light than the aquarium lights that I had laying around. Now it's just a matter of waiting.

Hey MJ.
@MJAquascaping4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob!

I love your videos, but being a coffee geek myself, I suggest you don't refer to that grinder as "your coffee grinder". That is not a coffee grinder at all, like in aquascaping, you need to right tools to extract a decent --> amazing coffee, coffee grinders should have flat or conical burrs, depending on the extraction method (espresso, brew, etc.) and roasting level of the coffee (light vs dark roast). Having said that, the best use for such a grinder is exactly the one you show in your videos :-)
