I'm glad someone is asking these questions. This one has been nagging me for a while, but I haven't had a chance to analyze it. I use GH so you've convinced me to look into it further. Of course, there appear to be more to consider. GH seems to be more tailored to different stages of growth. Maybe all that is just a marketing ploy, but if it really matters, then it would seem like a substitute that doesn't vary based on stage in plant's cycle might be less effective as some stages. Also, it's possible to save a lot off GH by getting it by the gallon (though the same is probably true for Bloom). Did you consider any other solids? How did you settle on Bloom?
@Des4204 жыл бұрын
Tailoring your feed schedule depending on the stage of growth is something to consider more in mid to late flower than any earlier stages... But it's not necessary. With a decent feed schedule you can feed the plants the same thing for the entire life cycle and get fantastic results. Tailoring can be done with dry nutrient salts too, as they're usually 3 components (like most bottled nutes), and it's the same process. In reality, they're taking those nutrient salts and diluting them into the bottles for roughly 30 dollars per gallon. If you are willing to buy the salts in bulk (like the gallons of GH), you can get the cost per gallon down to ridiculously low numbers - like 10 cents a gallon, give or take a nickel... Please check out Jack's 321 if you are interested in learning about the general feed schedule and ingredients used. Cheers.

Powder/dry nutes are a lot cheaper if you buy in 25/50lbs bags, and are also typically more concentrated by weight. The amateurs and urban gardeners are who's overpaying for small quantities (most people). Also anyone serious about hydro doesn't rely on PH perfect nutes my dude. Using GH flora series and mixing based on what your plants need make it nearly impossible to beat. In fact I will step up and say GH in my opinion offers the best hydro nutrients to date. I’ve tried a lot of different ones over the years and generally always come back. I’ve run the gro well into flower, then let it go when timing was right, you cannot control a one parter like that and since all plants are different that capability is a must, kinda like altering your ph as plants blooms. Great videos and thanks for doing what I would like to do. Try floranova in a controlled test, I think that will surprise a lot of people as that’s an incredible nute for one part grow and one part flower.

@mytech67792 жыл бұрын
If you are in a humid area the powder will have a shorter shelf life and you can get Ca and Mg precipitates. The actual weight per gallon will also change due to water weight though this is minor if using an EC tester. I formulate my own from basic salts and store it as multi part stock solutions custom diluted to my normal batch size and EC target. (eg 2 tablespoons per bucket of water) its a bit more investment in micro nutes but much cheaper in the long run and not beholden to a particular supplier, it also lets me address specific plant needs when required.

Hey, nice video, let me tell you why I just switched back to liquid nutes. I hate the DUST that floraflex nutrients cause, the zippers suck, they get wet and ruined easily with humidity. I have used Gen Hydro 3 part, Veg bloom and floraflex nutrients and a few others. I can say the veg+bloom was more convenient but I did notice there was issues with it getting wet and clumpy. I realllly hate the dust caused by floraflex, its not so bad with veg+bloom from what I remember. My work area became a mess. Trying to scoop out that 5lbs bag was really annoying.

I'm using the same General Hydroponics 3 part. I'm very interested in how your fixed NPK ratio works throughout the 5 phases of your plants' lives; and whether yield or quality are effected; especially for maripickles. What is the ratio you're stuck with? I dig the concept of having 7-6-11 for seedlings into veg, 2-1-3 (16-8-24) for heavy veg, back to 7-6-11 for transition to flower, 3-4-5 (12-16-20) for peak flower, and 0-5-4 for last feeding before starving them. But maybe GH has sold me on a bunch of extra work.🤷♂️

Only benefit I like with liquid is increasing the amount of nitrogen. Other than that I haven’t really seen much benefit in making adjustments unless it’s for commercial scale grows and squeezing out as much potential as possible. Home grow it’s only marginal improvements if any. Think about plants outside. No one changes the make up of the soil. Unless it’s for actual gardening then maybe.
@Xeromorphic4 жыл бұрын
There are reasons why you want different ratios. I grow peppers and you need to be able to prevent blooming. When a pepper plant blooms it restricts growth. I can do that with a multi part fertilizer (doesn't matter if it's ghe or another brand). I can't do this with this powdered fertilizer. It's a great fertilizer, just not for growing my peppers (not saying you cant grow peppers with this, just saying I can control its growth and flowing better with a multi part fertilizer) .

The FloraMicro has enough N in it that you can omit the FloraGro entirely. 7.5ml of FloraMicro per gallon + 15ml of FloraBloom per gallon is a fantastic, easy feed schedule that can be used as is, for the entire life of the plants. @NicholasPOGM3 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingAnswers Not really. There is synthetic fertilizer and organic. Organic is natural.
@GrowingAnswers3 жыл бұрын
@@NicholasPOGM plant nutrients in hydroponics are not “chemicals.” When people hear the word “chemicals” they think of things that are poisonous and unnatural or dangerous. Let’s put this in a simple form. The “nutrients” that plants use are all the same no matter if it’s organic or “chemical” (or non-chemical for this matter). The difference is that with nutrients in the forms of salts (or chemical form if you really want to call it that) are already plant available. Meaning they can take it up right away. With organic such as compost teas, a bacteria has to break it down into a plant available form before the plant can absorb it. So in the end, the mineral or the macro nutrient being absorb is the same. Organics just add an additional step before it’s converted into the same form as with “chemical.” So to elaborate on “chemical” that word is not really appropriate to use. It all comes from the environment and through natural or forced processes it’s just converted to different forms. Such as things like iron. Iron can come in several different forms and some of which are not usable by your body. But it’s all iron. Just because it’s in another format we don’t call it a chemical per say. It just needs a process to convert it to a useable form. Ready made fertilizers for hydroponics or even soil for that matter are nutrients already in the last stage (form) that plants can use. Organic stuff or composts is not in a useable form until living organisms break it down into that “chemical” form, as some seem to like to call it. Typically organic fertilizers are used more in soil because soil can harbor the organisms. If organic stuff is used in hydroponics a strongly aerated reservoir needs to be used. If the air pump stops, all that aerobic bacteria will die and the system will become anaerobic. Then the plants won’t be able to uptake nutrients and the system will fail.
