If you are referring to the General Hydroponics series they have feeding charts available on their website, but a good starting point is 1 tsp. per gallon of water for each Micro, Flora, and Bloom. Be sure to mix the Micro in the water first!
@chrisdillon2519
@chrisdillon2519 3 жыл бұрын
The Flora series is designed to be used in combination with each other. The names are a little misleading bc you think “maybe I only need the gro during early development and only need the bloom during flowering”. But yes, at 15 days I think your plants will benefit from 5mL (1 tsp) of each nutrient mixed into 1 gallon of water. I’m not very familiar with a drip system, as I primarily do Kratky.

@chrisdillon2519
@chrisdillon2519 3 жыл бұрын
Kratky is pretty simple and cheap, there aren’t many disadvantages that I’ve found. It’s mostly just the size of your vessel that changes, but it also depends on what you are trying to grow. Personally, I like to grow a bunch of herbs so that I always have some on hand for cooking. And occasionally lettuce too. But I use quart sized mason jars. Tons of info on how to set these up. Wrap them with aluminum foil. Net cup and rockwool. Keep an eye on your levels and when the plant drains the nutrient solution completely you can refill it to about 1/2 - 2/3 full again. You can also Kratky in a large plastic bin with holes cut in the lid, but I have not experimented with that yet. Let me know how it goes. Cheers!

I use it on my peach tree, fig, lettuce, squash, tomatoes, cucumber, all melons, okra, aspargus, coffee, sage, beets, cabbage, kale, and every vegetable and herb that I grow as well as all my house plants. @doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 4 жыл бұрын
The kratky method doesn't need an air bubbler. You just need to make sure you don't submerge the air roots (basically only fill the water/nutes to halfway up the roots once the plant has really rooted). While your plant is young and hasn't really grown roots yet, ensure your plant is able to get enough water to stay moist (if using something like rockwool, just make sure the rockwool touches the water to wick up the liquid to your young plants).

@VTK VoTranK Don't think I"m the right person to answer you. For me, I have the FloraMicro mixture. They have a nice easy to follow application table on the label. My plants are beginning to leave the seedlings stage and enter mild vegetation with flowering. So my mixture would be 1 tea spoon from each mix into a gallon of tap. I also got a pH tester... really easy to use even for a first timer. Good luck, it's exciting to be able to see the roots grow almost daily. I'm planting a series of peppers and spice plants.

Hi Khang Starr, I am a big fan of your youtube channel. I am using the flora series and my hot pepper plants are producing like crazy! But the taste of the peppers, is very very bitter and not very good. ( fatally yellow, scotch brain and aji lemon) they all have the same after taste. Iam wondering if it's the nutriment or something else. I use root farm ph down, cal mag and the flora series. You don't have to use any particular nutrients. I have used many brands in the AeroGarden and they all worked very well. Only thing I would recommend is stick to liquid kinds since solids that you have to dissolve may get stuck in your pump.
@inimitableminimalist

Hi Khang, you might already know this but your pH meter will last a lot longer if you store the probe in KCl storage solution. If the probe dries out it can completely lose accuracy and you can't recalibrate it. I recently had to replace the probe on my pH meter because I wasn't storing it in KCl and it was almost as much as a new meter.

I think Khang said in another video that you can grow lettuce with the 1 gallon containers. You may need to top the liquid (basically add more of the nutes mixed with water) as it will be used up when the lettuce gets bigger. I know I've had to add liquid to mine for my basil as it grows bigger, but I'm growing them in 1/2 gallon recycled glass pickling jars. :) However, you should dump everything out after 3 weeks and give it brand new solution.

Mix them from basic salts\fertilizers (you can probably buy most of them in any store for gardeners or in chemical reagent stores, regardless of your location). Use NPK calculator on PC or smartphone (try some, find the one that you like. I've tried Hydroodo, HydroBuddy and some others on PC; Auto NPK Calculator on Android, for example). Also get yourself digital weights - 200g x 0.01g are cheap and should be enough for hobby growing. After this buy basic salts like Monopotassium phosphate, Magnesium nitrate, Potassium nitrate, Calcium nitrate, Potassium sulfate, Magnesium sulfate and some cheap micronutrients solution without NPK (Fe, Cu, Mn, Co, B) available near you (you can also mix those too but it's usually easier and cheaper to find liquid supplement). If you will be mixing your own solution, there is no reason to stick with usual formulas like 3-11-38 or 20-20-20. You can directly mix solution created and recommended for your plant and for its different growing stages. Some plans for peppers that you can use in your calculator from fertilizer manufacturer: www.haifa-group.com/sites/default/files/guide/Pepper_0.pdf There are other specifics and topics (like proper order of mixing solution components) and hopefully someone will cover this someday in another video.

@doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 4 жыл бұрын
Even good pH meters will go out of balance and need to be adjusted. To ensure you're getting the proper pH reading consistently, you need the buffer solutions to help calibrate your tool. You can use pH Up or pH Down to adjust your nutes solution to a proper range for your plants to better uptake the solution (Googling says 6.0-7.0 is good for most plants, but keep in mind some plants do like more acidic or alkaline environments).
@tombryant4518
@tombryant4518 3 жыл бұрын
Nutrients are only available to plants at certain pH levels. That’s why you need to check your pH with a properly maintained and calibrated pH meter. If your solution is too basic (high pH) or too acidic (low pH) you will experience nutrient lockout, and your plants will not be able to eat. So, depending on what media you’re growing in (microbes in soil basically balance the pH in the soil to keep it at a suitable level for the plants) you need to make sure your nutrients are in a useable pH range. If it’s too high, you add a few drops of pH down and keep stirring and checking until it’s in the desired range. If it’s too low, you add pH up a few drops at a time while stirring and checking until it’s where you want it. You’ll rarely need to use pH up, and will use much more pH down. The buffer solutions are calibration solutions that are used to calibrate the pH pen. They are never added into the nutrients at all, ever. Good meters still need to be calibrated on a regular basis to ensure accurate readings are being used.

do you notice any difference in the next generation of plants (from seed) when grown in hydroponics? also if you haven’t already, you should check out jeb the gardeners videos he also does gardening & hydroponics!

I purchased Maxigrow because I thought (incorrectly) that unlike Masterblend and the other series out there, it's an all-in-one. 😒 I also purchased the liquid form of the pH tester where you add drops to the water and compare the color...which I don't even use anymore because I'm lazy. I thought I had purchased the pH pen, but got the pen to measure ppm instead. I tried again to buy the pH pen, but ended up just getting buffer solution...so many mistakes. But I'm learning and will hopefully get it right now you provided the links. LOL! You should really become an Amazon affiliate so you can get money from Amazon purchases made through your links. Thanks for another informative video!

You can use maxigro all the way thru pretty much

@@GeofryMasters I heard I can do that, but Khang mentioned how with tomatoes and peppers, it helps to use Maxibloom for when they flower. I think it ups the flower production.

@Peter Nyman Yep, that's what I purchased. I have an 8 oz bottle that'll last me forever. LOL! I just don't like doing it because I'm lazy. But I do need to start again so my plants can absorb their nutrients properly.

Is there any organic food for hydroponics? Is it possible to use dehydrated organic fertilazer (that is used for soil fertilazing) in hydroponics?
@sarmatiko
@sarmatiko 4 жыл бұрын
The main problem with organics - you never know its exact contents. With mineral salts or prepared solutions you can always look at packaging and see the exact percentage and you can use that in your precise calculations for solutions. For something like dehydrated chicken manure you have to rely on random information from internet (random google result: "Chicken manure’s NPK ratio ranges from 3-2.5-1.5 to 6-4-3" - that's just too vague for exact calculations). Also if I'm not mistaken, manure and compost have to be decomposed by microorganisms first when in soil, so the plants can get their basic nutrients (NPK). In water you probably wont get those microorganisms so the basic nutrients wont be consumed. In the water you wont have those microorganisms most likely. So with that said, just use basic salts. In my eyes it's clean and organic too, because main concerns for "non-organic vegetables" would be pesticides, herbicides and other specialized chemicals. And you don't use those in hydroponics.

Some carnivorous plants (like the Venus Flytrap) will die if their growing medium has any sort of nutrients in the soil, so you should not use hydroponic (nor organic) nutrients on those! Just an FYI.

Not true. Venus Flytrap can utilize its roots because insects are not always available. The EC needs to be MUCH lower. Hmmm I wonder if you are not to perfectionist. Aerogarden uses just one liquid, just that little bottle that is standing between all your other botles. Is it really not enough? (Answered in your next video, tx) And to make it even more cheaper, can I not replace that Aerogarden bottle for a cheap plant fetilizer? Can you replant hydroponic plants in a later stadium in the ground? I don't see cucumber and corgettes seeds by the Aerogarden shop so you can not grow it in the Aerogarden? How much decibel is the noise from the Aerogarden? I do like your videos. But I do not like to invest much in plants:) PS 1litre Aerogarden is 23,96 in sale. Thanks 🌷

Just buy basic salts and mix solution yourself. As for planting from hydroponics to soil - yes, you can. Khang has a few videos about this on this channel.

PH Up and PH Down don't maintain a stable level though, as I learned through a lot of experience with owning fish tanks. Limestone, coral, and shells are good for raising PH, whereas something like peat moss or driftwood will lower it. You'd have to do tests to see what works the best and in what amount, but it certainly beats spiking your ph one way or another and it only lasting a small time. I think it'd at least make for an interesting experiment. Also, if you have hard water, do you think you could add a bit of it to the rest of your water as supplemental calcium?

Ph is off plants will not take up nutrients whether you have to adjust your pH or not tens on how far out your pH is some more products fertilizer other additives to put in the water will change the pH so yeah you need to get a tester and you need to test your water and you need to know what it is and if it's not in the acceptable range have to fix it or the plants will not take up nutrients simple do you need to change your pH if your pH is out you need to change it

He has a lot of viewers whom are new or ones whom are still confused about hydroponics. It took me a long time to learn this stuff and I am still learning as I forget and have to relearn. I can imagine how overwhelming it is for the newbies. You're not forced to watch ALL his videos, just keep moving along if it's not your cup of tea. Obviously people are asking these questions, that's why he made a video to answer them. As you can see by the comments, people are still wondering how all this works. Khang takes time out of his life to make myriad of videos - he excels like no others at providing videos on the growth of the plants from beginning to end. That takes a lot of time and effort as he could have just half-assed it like other grow channels. And unless you're personally paying him for all his time and knowledge, then maybe you should ponder gratefulness at free videos he's put out through the years.

Maybe Aerogarden may have figured their market would all be using tap water therefor mixed there nutrient accordingly for pH?
