Thank you! I have never soldered b4 but I owned a solder gun and solder and Flux, so I gave it a try. My first attempt was unsuccessful, but I work at elderly housing and one of my elderly women previously had a job doing soldering on computer boards. I took her my tools and in a couple minutes she removed my unsuccessful solder and put on a new one. I reassemble the dryer and saved 350 dollars for the new part plus labor! Thank you for empowering us "do it yourselfers"!!

except he's telling you bad information about what's happening though. He can't tell the difference between voltage and amperage because he's mixing the two things. He's saying to people should reuse the board without inspecting it to make sure the board's still ok when the board could have been damaged when the solder joint blew up. The fix he showed will work for many people but won't work for everybody, and the explanation of how a worn-out relay ended up burning out a solder joint like due to higher resistance at the contacts is without basis and just wrong.

Very helpful. After this video I canceled the repair technician, $70 service call fee, and fixed it myself. Probably saved me $400 in total which means I would have purchased a new dryer. You're video helped me fix our dryer! I have a super cool vintage soldering kit. We ordered the part off Amazon for $12. We also ordered the sucker bulb, but it never came, so we had to pick away the melted solder in tiny increments instead and I used a pointy soldering tool to "clean up" or holes (being as gentle as possible). Re-soldered it all, put it all back together and it worked like a charm. I am so thankful you made this video. You saved us a LOT of money and blessed us big time. We did laundry last night and celebrated!

Thank you for the instructional video. Our dryer experienced this problem on Thursday January 21, 2021. I immediately went to KZbin to research the F-01 code and found your video. It's Monday January 25, 2021, the dryer is fixed and we have successfully ran two loads in the dryer. The cost of the needed part was about $11 for the relay, $8 for the solder sucker tool. We owned a solder iron and socket wrench set. We did it thanks to your video!

I’ve done this repair, easy to do if you can solder. $15 fix for what the service guy wanted to charge $280 for the board and $160 (here they charge $80 for the service call and $80 per hour labour) took me about an hour from start to finish. That includes taking the lid off the dryer removal of the board, desoldering and replacing the relay. That was 2 months ago, the dryer works fine. So, $15 vs $440 and it was fun to do

Thank you, this is indeed the "Real Fix". I previously "repaired" my dryer re-soldering the failed solder connection. This did last for over a year, but it failed again due to another solder connection failing. This also ruined the pad on both connections, making the relay replacement more difficult. The increased resistance in the relay over time makes perfect sense, and replacement is the way to go the first time.

In Canada the control boards goes for $450. I paid less than $10 (taxes in) for the part (relay) that was not working. The instructions are detailed and very helpful. I though it would be a hassle to moved our stacked washer-dryer but as it turns out I could simply access it from the top. I soooo appreciate ginsboy2003 posting the video because I actually considered he hack repair video that involved soldering a wire to the board. But as he says, this does NOT fix the problem. Thanks so much for this video!! The step-by-step instructions are excellent. Especially showing how to remove the solder and then resolder the new relay. I was getting an F40 code that was caused by no power to the motor control board. The relay contact having the solder melted away caused this loss of power to the control board so I was getting a code that wasn't actually the real problem. When I finally figured out that I needed to check this relay I was just about ready to go buy a new dryer. So our perfectly good dryer was saved by your video and a $10 relay. Thanks a bunch!!

Your comment that a high schooler can do this was totally legit. I took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test in high school and the Air Force told me that I qualitied for any job they had as long as I didn't try and fix any of their planes (no mechanical inclination whatsoever). AMAZING! I researched the cost of replacing the main board, determined by the F01 error code, on my Maytag Bravos Dryer. Replacement boards are $250 and up; Refurbished ones are half that or more. I figured that to replace the board, I'd have to remove the old one, so I found your video. Once I removed my old board from the white, plastic encasement, the black burn-stain from under that ONE solder connection was EXACTLY as you showed. I ordered a relay from e-Bay for under $10 but cleaned and soldered that one point under the relay and the dryer fired up perfectly. IF and WHEN it goes out again, I'll replace the relay, but until then, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I just fixed mine today. Solder had melted off. I have ordered the relay but in order to get our sheets dry, I had to solder it temporarily to get it going again. Thanks for the great info.

Thank you for all your information sir. Followed everything to a T and it now works perfect again. I too had a hard time thinking about spending $350-$400 for a mother board. By simply replacing a $10 relay switch; this was by far the best choice I made and it proves anyone can do this with a little patience. It literally took 20-30 minutes to complete everything.

Thanks for the info. I had the same F01 error code showing up. I changed out the thermal fuse and also the top door catch which had been busted. The F01 code went away but the dryer would still not start up. So then I turned to the main control board, got it out and found the same solder burn out problem. I resoldered it to buy me some time to figure out how to fix it permanently. Then I found your video and love that it's just a relay. I'll order one (assuming they have one for my 16 year old machine!). Should be an easy and more permanent fix. I should have made a video of my trials getting this figured out. Glad I found yours. Thanks again.

Awesome!! I got my board out after struggling with the power connector that is not shown on yours. For some reason, this connector took a awful lot of force to get off. I took the board out and found the relay you show with a HUGE burn area around it. I ordered the relay and it will be a few days, but I can survive. THANKS FOR AN AWESOME VIDEO. You rock!!!

Where was this video 2 weeks ago? Great vid. I saved my old control board and am going to order a new relay and solder it and see if it works. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge on this subject.

Thank you. I did exactly what you did in the video. Just switched dryer back on and it works. Cost me $28 for the part and soldering iron. Great video.... Thanks again
