Step by step , filmed up close , in great detail with instructional narration you need to know , including relevant part numbers and torque settings .Always refer to the manufacturers shop manual for all recommended settings and specifications .This video is for general knowledge and entertainment only . I am not a professional mechanic and offer my opinions and advice based on years of learning the hard way and asking those who know the right way .The main goal is to always " Try'an Learn ".

Hey there! What a great video! Would it be possible to get the inner and outer diameters of the washers and seals you replaced? The original parts are so hard to get in some countries. Would really save me (and im sure some more people) a lot of time and potentially even money.

@@eriii276 Hi Eriii276 Thanks very much .Glad you enjoyed the video . I dont have those parts in hand to get the dimensions on but will try when I get a chance .One trick you can sometimes have success with is using the crush washers that come with new spark plugs . They surprisingly fit many drain plugs . I have used them in a pinch when nothing else as available . Thanks again I will try and find the O ring dimensions asap .Cheers

Quality work man indeed, it looks like I have shown you well with the editing skills......lol ...... Dam good video on a How to buddy and unlike so many how to videos this one everyone can see every part of what you are doing. As no doubt this is the intension. So many how to video's or install videos are made with the camera placed in the corner of the work space or sitting up on a cupboard 2 miles away an what someone is trying to show can't be seen however you have put the cam right in close up view of all of the stages and have made the process crystal clear for a blind person...... What’s ‘safety wire’? Great vid mate. From Australia
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 3 ай бұрын
Safety wire is used to secure a bolt in place .The head is drilled to accommodate a thin wire through it and then twisted to the frame or another part of the engine. Typically done on race machines or aircraft or on any critical bolt on any piece of machinery. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment so kindly from Australia. Cheers 🍻

Idk about the drain plug for the oil filter, I’ve heard to NEVER touch that and that it’s for testing oil pressure or something like that. Strips very easily so I’ve heard
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 10 ай бұрын
Well sir you are correct that this access point is used for connecting an oil pressure gauge .To never use it as a convenient drain point for the oil filter housing is an interesting thought .To say it strips out easily is something I have never seen or heard of .Like any nut or bolt ,if you use common sense and have a reasonable mechanical feel I dont think it would be an issue .Thanks for raising the point and taking te time to comment .Cheers

Hi Jose.Im not aware of any kit offered that has the parts outlined in the video. But whatever Suzuki Dealer you do business with will likely have an online parts finder page that makes it very easy to get whatever you need .I'm pretty sure the part numbers in the video will match your bike as the motors haven't changed much in a very long time .But still cross reference them with your model year just to be sure. Hope that helps .Good luck and enjoy your machine. Cheers 🍻

Should you replace the washers from the banjo bolt and the oil filter drain bolt washer everytime like the crush washers? If not, how often? Thank you
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 7 ай бұрын
Well Joseph you make an interesting point .It's a good idea to replace most any sealing type washer when you get the opportunity .While I did not replace them in the video .If I had new ones at the time I definitely would have .Know that I have ordered all of the washers required for the next oil change and will be certain to install them then .They cost so little and it's good insurance to replace them when you can . Thanks for the great question. Cheers 🍻

Are all the washers crush washers? Is that just regular white lithium grease for the filter cap thing? Do you replace that O-ring also?
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 5 ай бұрын
Both drain bolts should have new crush washers.Just regular white lithium grease works fine to hold in the O ring on the cover .And Yes I do recommend replacing both O rings .But you don't usually have to unless the old ones are compromised in some way .

Wish I had this video when I changed the oil yesterday in my new 23 sm. Apparently I put the crush washer on the front drain upside down.... I got confused also b/c they only sent me one crush washer when I purchased the kit, even though there are two drain bolts. Nothing has leaked as of yet, so I think I'm ok. I will make sure next time I ask for both crush washers, and put them in facing the right way. I don't think it's worth draining and redoing it all and wasting oil if it's currently not leaking. Thoughts?
@TRyanLearnBikes

Not to worry man , you'll be fine .There's lots of guys out there who never replace the washer at all or use all kinds of other bits and pieces to save a buck .If you get a chance take a look at the video I recently put out about an oil change on a suzuki bandit There's lots of comments about crush washers high lighted in that one ..you.may get a chuckle its pretty funny what some people say .Cheers my friend and thanks for taking the time to comment.

What is safety wire on drain bolts?
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 9 ай бұрын
It's common mostly on race bikes .Basically it's a small hole drilled in the cap of the drain bolt to allow a wire to be threaded through it ( after being tightened) and anchored to a secure point on the frame or adjacent bolt .It Gaurantees the bolt can't come loose .

What do you mean to use safety wire??
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 29 күн бұрын
It's typically a procedure done on race engines that secures a bolt in position once its torqued down .The bolt head would have a small hole drilled through it that allows a thin wire to pass through and be secured to a fixed point on the frame or engine. It may be a little bit over the top for some people. But it's a failsafe way to be 100 % sure nothing comes loose .That's why it's a must on any race bike to pass tech .If you observe proper torque settings you should be ok in most normal road bike applications .Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers 🍻

Hello, I've bought recently a 400 DR-Z and a I make my first oil change but I forgot to empty oil in the front frame (sorry my bad....) I replace oil and the 1.8 liter goes inside without overflow. Should I be worried to have to much oil in the frame/engine ? Or the whole previous oil had gone out by the engine hole because its the lowest point of both oil change holes ? Thank you for your help

There's a good chance you have too much oil in the bike .It will only show the correct level of oil on the dip stick when the engine is warm . It's an easy mistake to make .I would start over by draining the frame and engine and if you change the filter add 1.8 liters .of oil. If you don't change the filter add 1.7 liters. Then warm.the engine and check the dip stick ...its very important to check when warmed up .That's how you will get true read .

At this point in my bikes life, if there's no smoke, there's no oil! Do I even need to change it at that point?

The only problem is what you consider reasonably tight and what I consider reasonably tight are very two different things lol 🤷‍♂️
@rolandkeith5322
@rolandkeith5322 Жыл бұрын
I consider it like this you have tight that you can’t undo by hand and you need a tool. And then way up on the other end you have a tight that snaps the bolt head off ....... but in the middle, you will find reasonably tight….lol

Stop telling people to mess with the oil filter drain, people crack their cases all of the time doing that. There is no need for it
