I have an ESP8266 D1 mini controling 4xrelays for lights in different rooms, it is also integrated with alexa and works like a dream. However I'm looking to add physical push bottons to enable normal on/off functionaliy, aswell as updating alexa of any state change done by the push buttons. Is there any option to enble this using the D1 mini? I look forward to any feedback.

I will use this to make a fan controller in which gangs 1 and 2 passes through a capacitor for speeds low and medium. Obviously 2 gangs turned on at the same time will cause short circuit..... Hello, could you explain me how to configure sonoff touch T1 or TX to work in pushbutton with dimmer mode. I try to set it up but it doesn't work like it does in your video. I can't set SwitchMode 7. I only expect 230V on the output if I touch the button, and when I hold it, 230V will be there for as long as I hold it. I don't need to send MQTT topics to HA. Can i configure it somehow? Greetings. Great clarification. Been battling with switchmode for a while now. Do you have some video/blog that covers switchmode together with rules? I have a 2 gang switch (one connected to a light, the other to a fan). The switches run Tasmota and are push buttons not rocker switches and I'd like to use switchmode 5 or 6 to utilise the HOLD function as well. The idea is this: When the light (switch1) is on for more than x mins, turn on the fan (switch2) for y mins before turning it off again. Can't get this to work. If I look at the pseudo code it should do something like this: On trigger (i.e. switch1#state=on) start a timer1 x mins If the timer1 has expired AND switch#state=on turn on switch2 for y mins (timer2) Once timer2 has expired turn off switch2

Thanks, good info. I have a problem, i have 2 buttons but it only gives me POWER = ON or OFF no matter which button I press. What am I doing wrong or is their a fancy switch mode/option I missed. I tried setting GPIOs as BUTTON1 & 2, as SWITCH1 & 2. I can't get it to tell me which input changed. Any ideas?

Thanks for the video. I originally programmed my sonoffs and wemos devices in C++ to handle specific functions. I decided to look at Tasmota this time around but it seems unnecessarily complicated and esoteric. The documentation is difficult to understand and the switchmode and switchstate properties are difficult to relate to typical applications so this video helps a lot.

Great Video as always. Two questions. #1 Is there a video identifying and explaining the various of Sonoff Basic? They do not appear to use model numbers, but my switches (perhaps R2) have black wires replacing the heavy "solder channels" on the board and do NOT have GPIO14 identified. I have not seen my model in any of your videos. #2 I am using a lighted momentary contact switch (in my case between ground and "Key") but I can not find a pin providing 3V that tracks the relay status. There is always 3V between ground and "Key".

thanks. ya, you have the R2 and now they are on the R3 already. The best place to track changes is probably the Tasmota wiki. github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/wiki I'm not sure about a pin that tracks the relay status. I'd guess you'd have to solder directly to the relay control contact. I liked the v1 of the sonoff basic more than the last 2 versions. Wish they still made the old ones.

Great video! It occurs to me that switch mode 7 would be a feat thing for a garage door opener. I had been using another so off device for that purpose which was set to be a momentary contact device by default but now any sonoff basic with tasmota should work fine.

New to Tasmota. What is the significance of the switch number (1-9) when selecting the GPIO14 function? I am working with an SV at the moment and I was having trouble decoupling the reed switch from the relay when using Switch1 and using switchmode1 1 and switchtopic1 1 . Maybe user error but it seems like moving GPIO14 to Switch 2 corrected that problem. Thanks!

Is there a mode that will send either the momentary or hold command depending on how long you hold the button? This would allow having dual functions, such as normal press to toggle one light, and hold press to switch off all the lights.

for sure! That's what switchtopic1 should do. If you just touch the button once it will send the "cmnd/sonoff/POWER1 = ON" if you hold it will send "cmnd/sonoff/POWER1 = HOLD" It's a great feature to do exactly what you want. Let me know if you have trouble with it.

Awesome, I m using Nodemcu module & flashed it with 4Ch DIY Sonoff . 3 channels wall switch ( Rocker Type) working ok. But when the 4th switch is switched ON all previously switched channels goes OFF including the Channel 4 . The module does not come to normal operation until wall switch 4 connected to specific GPIO is revert to pull up level. Sir Can you please help me solve this . Thanks

This video was helpful. I have another question on the Sonoff SV with Tas. I'm trying to use it to raise and lower a projector screen. the board built in the screen has 3 wires, a up, down, and common. the screen board only needs a short input to start the raise or lower, so a 1 second pulse would be fine. Can I use the GPIOs and ground for this?

Nick Cooper after resetting your sonoff, the ssid and password is lost and set to defaults, click the button 4 times. Once the led is blinking connect to the sonoff-xxxxx and reset your ssid and password to your network

Completely new in this and after received my first Sonoff I realized the model R2 has no GPIO 14, Ive seen it can be found in pin 9 of the chip, although is really difficult to solder in such a small location. After Tasmota's flash, can the toggle button in the board (Pairing button/manual switch) be used as a push button still? if so, can Home Assistant recognize the state of the sonoff after it changes using this included push button? My plan is to solder wires to this button and extend it to an external push button. I know I am a bit late to the game but I will appreaciate if you can respond, I'm planning to follow your entire setup/tutorial for my own home automation.

Hi. The original push-button on Sonoff is GPIO0, that is not visible if you use module type basic. If you change the module type in your tazmotized sonoff you will be able to control gpio0, and you can then change gpio0 to something like switch2.

However after some extra thoughts perhaps you can just change the behavior without even changing the module-type, by just making a console command like: "switchmode0 1". Maybe you can try both things, changing the module type only takes about 5-10 seconds, and you can change it back to "Sonoff basic (1)".

Thanks! You caught that?! It was perfect how the wire nut fit on the LED and blocked the light but still glowed enough to let you know it was on. Very fancy. Those cap-touch buttons work like latching switches. So they wouldn't be good for the Hold function. You could do it, but it would be like switching a rocker switch, then 4 sec later, switch it back. I think there's a way to convert them by breaking a solder link somewhere, but I haven't done it. I actually have some other touch modules that act like pushbuttons. Hold command should work with those.

Good video, just what the doctor ordered ;) I have a related question though: Is it possible to solve this: I connect a toggle switch to the sonoff, so the switch is either on or off, but instead of following this state I would want to toggle the relay the the state changed? For example: the relay is off and the switch is off, I flip the switch to on and the relay turns on. I then send a mqtt message to turn the relay of. So now the switch is on and the relay is off. When I then flip the switch to off I would want the relay to turn on again. So the relay does not follow the switch, but reacts to changes in its state if that makes sense.

That's a good question. I have the problem that those LED touch buttons don't always turn off (or on) when the relay is toggled in HA (via mqtt). Sometimes when I flip the switch in HA, the LED on the button does go off, but not always. When it doesn't I have to tap it twice to get the relay to switch. Maybe the thing to try is SwitchTopic1. Then instead of using the "stat/sonoff/" topic as the "state_topic:" in HA, use the "cmnd/sonoff/" topic. I haven't tried it, but that might do the trick. If you test it out before me let me know if that does what you're looking for.

Hey Doctor. I finally got around to flashing a few sonoffs of my own and testing this stuff. To get the behavior I want I get go into Configuration -> Configure module. And on this page select the value "09 switch1" for GPIO14. Now the relay is switched when this pin changes. GPIO14 is the 5th "hole" in the sonoff basic, right next to ground so i tested using a jumper wire to connect and disconnect these two terminals and it works! So now I can connect my switch to GPIO14 and ground and get my desired result. And this works even if my mqtt broker or home assistant is offline. I'm not sure this is helpful for your situation, but I figured I would report my succes.

I have a no voltage relay sonoff sv with tasmota that i am going to solder in parallel to a momentary switch, and I need it to be on a pulsetime of 30 since my pelletheater needs a 3 sec push of the button to turn on. How do I setup the sonoff that after a push of the button the state remains on? Now it just toggled to off again after the 3 seconds. It is all kind of new to me, and I got this far. 8)

sounds like you need a different marker of the state of your devices besides the button/relay. Nothing comes to mind to solve that with just the sonoff SV. One possible solution is a power monitoring plug. With that you could monitor the power usage by your heater and use that as an indicator of the state of the heater. Something like the sonoff s31 or the POW would work. Those power monitoring plugs are usually rated for 16 amps. Hopefully your heater doesn't draw more than that.

What I mean by power rest here is. Power cutoff to sonoff Input. That's like power failure & then when power failure is restored. I don't use any switch between GPIo & gnd tapping.

I have Node MCU running Tasmota. I have a door sensor set up with GPIO14 works fine with topic door. Now how do I add another topic for sensor 2 on GPIO 5 or multiple door sensors. I can't figure out how to change the topic for a specific GPIO?

TASMOTA assigns a different topic for each switch or relay by adding a number to the end. So if sensor 1 is switch 1 then the topic will be stat/sonoff/power1 (sometimes just power for number 1) So for switch 2 the topic becomes stat/sonoff/power2 You don’t have to change it. Switch 3 would be power3, etc. so in HA your topics for state will look almost the same except that last number. Does that help?

I found the problem for the record!! and if someone has a similar issue. Since I am a newbie and you are a little advance for me, sometime in your videos you skip some steps as you think are obvious ;) . So in TASMOTA when you set a switch ( or a sensor) on any GPIO you must have it relay set up as well. eg D2 is switch 1 and set D8 for relay 1. then TASMOTA with assign POWER 1 as a Topic.make sure also to set the Topic =0 in console

Same issue here. Led Power controls the small blinking status LED and not the touch sensor illumination. I would like to use SwitchMode1 2 such that the touch buttons are illuminated when the room lights are off. This would make it easier to find the buttons on the dark.

Thanks for the video, this was really helpful. I'm facing a challenge and would appreciate if anyone can help. I flashed my Sonoff basic with Tasmota and completed the setup including WiFi credentials. I then connected the switch to a light (the only wire connections were live and neutral wires at both ends to respective connections). I then changed GPIO14 to Switch1 (9) and set the switchmode to 0. I was able to control the light from the configuration/web interface. But I expected that switching on or off from the physical switch and switching on or off from the web interface will keep on toggling the light. However, when I switch the light off using the physical switch, the sonoff (probably) gets turned off and I can no longer see it connected to the WiFi. I then set switchmode to 1 but I'm facing the same problem. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

So you have a switch and a light. The switch can either be the built-in one or one soldered on to GPIO14) like in the video. The light is connected to the output terminals. "I then connected the switch to a light...". What does this mean? Also don't understand what's in brackets

You set it to one of the non-toggle switchmodes so you'll get an On or Off instead of Toggle. I'm pretty sure Switchmode 1 will be the one you want.

I want to connect a servo motor to the sonoff to control my blinds do you know a way to do this? Does tasmota allow you to add a timer to tell it when to stop giving power? Is this even possible. Am I asking to many questions? I definitely don't know the answer.

You need a motor controller between the Sonoff and the Servo. You can't power the motor directly from the Sonoff, if that's what you're asking. I'm not sure Tasmota is the best platform to use to control a motor. I'd like to do some experimenting with it, but as of right now, I don't know how exactly to do it. Sorry, wish I was able to offer more help

Yes, it looks like it would. But I still don't think you can run a servo with the Sonoff. You can (probably) with the NodeMCU. Best to ask the guy who wrote that code. Good luck!

All I see with a quick look in Tasmota wiki is this: "DS18B20 Temperature - DS18x20 (4) in group 2 Enable option USE_DS18x20 in user_config.h for multiple sensors using OneWire library" I'm guessing you probably already saw that. I'll have to look in my box of sensors and see if I have one of those to try out. What have you tried so far?

Hi thanks for the quick reply I'm sorry to say my knowledge is somewhat limited. So far and thanks to your tutorials I have managed to suceesfully install hassio on my pi3 and I have a dht22 working on tasmotoa firmware loaded onto a nodemcu and it is reporting using mqtt to home assistant. can't wait to get into it all further but thought it would be cool to put a temp probe in my pond as my second sensor using tasmotoa on a webmos mini pro?. I do have a 2 wire 10k thermistor usually used for under floor heating but only know how to hook it up through Arduino using an analog port which I believe is complicated to enable analogue inputs on tasmota ? anyway thanks for your turorials much appreciated .

ya, that will always happen with the PIR sensor. Depending on your PIR there might be jumpers or dials to adjust "retriggering", so after an "on" it won't register another "on" for a period of time. That's a setting on the PIR though. Watch the video I did with the D1 mini and the PIR sensor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYfQnWNooLVmerc Use the switchmode/topic I used there. Sorry I don't remember what it was off hand. The way to manage frequent On/Off with the PIR is in HA (or other logic handler, like NodeRED, etc). You set an automation or a rule that says if there is no "On" sensed from the PIR for X time, then flip the relay (lights, etc) to "off". There is a new "rules" feature in Tasmota, but I haven't experimented with it at all yet.

Thanks! I don't think the 4ch has any available gpio pins, other than the Rx/Tx and you don't want to use those for external switches. What I think you'd have to do is connect to the contacts on the board that go to the button for the relay you want to control with your hardware switch. Tasmota sets the switchmode to 0 by default, which is "toggle" for a momentary switch, so if you're going to use a rocker-type switch you will want to change the switchmode to 3 or 4 (if I'm remembering right). It'll take a little trial and error but I bet it can be done.

do you have a multimeter? I would test use contacts connected directly to the buttons. You'll need to be able to tell which contacts are connected to each pole on the switch. Maybe it will be too much to learn from scratch. If you don't think you can do it maybe a different solution would be better.

I don't have the data sheet. The 3 pins are VCC, Out, Gnd. It acts like a latching switch as-is, but I seem to remember there's a way to make it a momentary switch by adding some solder.

Those pogo pins look wicked. Unfortunately, Amazon US won't ship them here -not for a reasonable price anyway. But I did manage to poke through the solder by heating up some pin connectors with a soldering iron. I then tasmotized them using FlashEZ...problem solved....a bit disappointed that sonota doesn't work anymore though. OTA was my go to flashing method.

Try a different seller. AliExpress or Banggood might have them. I love flashEZ with the bin file. So simple. And I’ve got another twist to add. There’s a way to paste all the setup commands you need into Termite all at once. So you can set your WiFi, mqtt, etc. slick!

I believe that is switchmode 0 after you configure the Switch1 on GPIO14. Check back in some of his other Sonoff videos as he explained it there. I also recommend doing the 10k resistor pull-up modification as well if you are going in the wall. I haven't had to do the capacitor filter thing he showed but definitely had to do the 10k on a couple so I do it on all of mine now as it just takes a couple seconds to throw in a resistors across the two pins.

Hey bro really cool video so I was working on a project where I involved a water pump that would pump Water to a tank and so I used a Sonoff sv to set a timer to The pump so water doesn’t overfill and it takes exactly 5 minutes and 30 seconds to fill up the tank more then that and it can overfill but the thing is that the EWeLink app can only do whole minutes like i could only program 5 minutes and not the other 30 seconds could it be possible to change this with tasmota sorry for my bad English hope you can help me thanks 🙏 nice content btw

I am trying to set one of the switches to where there light on the button is off when the relay in closed, (device power on, but light on switch plate off), reversed from factory settings. That way when the fan is on at while sleeping at night the light isn't glowing the entire room and getting me a --WAF....:/ Help! ANY ideas??? LOL

Another great video. I have a suggestion for a new minizzeries. I am very confused about addressing. I notice that you always put the full ip address whenever an address is required. In many of the videos and documentation hassio.local:8123 for example is used. Occasionally that works for me, but rarely. I always establish a static ip address for the Pi, but sometimes another MAC address shows up for hassio. How can that be? Also, what about using Ethernet vs wifi? I am missing something that must be important. Must be some others that are confused. Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much.

Thanks Tom! I've had the same experience with "hassio.local" when I first started with HA, so I haven't even tried it in a while. Also, for me at least, I'm running 2 hassio rpi's. One to run the house and another to test new things on before I mess with the main system. (That's a WAF mandate). I've got a lot to learn about network connections but I will try to put together some useful information in a video sometime. I'm trying to move away from so much wifi and rely more on ethernet. It is just so much more reliable. If I were building a new house I would put an ethernet cable at every door and window and in key locations for cameras, besides the usual 1 per room. But that's another video too. But if you can't run new cable in your house, you're stuck with wifi and that's where most of us are these days.

I run into trouble when I try to mix them. I am now using 100% wifi and full ip address with no trouble. I need to set up another PI for development. FYI, I run all of this stuff on solar power. Really love you videos and have already learned a lot as a complete beginner in HA world - Philips Hue doesn't count ;) A couple months back you have made a great video '$5 DIY "Smart" Garage Door Opener using Sonoff SV' where you had to modify Sonoff SV to use it, but this new video got me thinking: 1. with the SwitchMode 3 that emulates PUSHBUTTON (NO) - similar to the physical PB on the wall, 2. considering that my unit motor is powered by 24V DC (from transformer) and not 230V AC is it still necessary to remove resistors and use Sonoff in isolated mode? In addition garage door opener PCB has extra connection that can deliver 24V AC (not typo) if this may be of any use. Anyway I'm a bit confused on how to proceed with my Tasmotized Sonoff SV implementation. Any help will be really appreciated.

Hello Norway! You should be able to use the SV without isolating the relay. I'd need to know a little more about your opener function to say exactly how you should wire up the SV, but I would expect you could just put it parallel with the current activation switch. I'm going to re-do my wife's door with an SV and I'll do it that way to show how it can be done, but that won't be for a while so you'll probably want an answer sooner. I'm planning a live stream this Sunday. Maybe this could be something we talk about then.

Hi DrZzs, Thanks for your quick reply. Parallel connection to the manual switch/push-button was my first thought. The opening system is provided by German company Seip and is pretty common in Europe. This particular one is already a couple years old but it's quit ordinary sort to say, both remote (433MHz) and push-button operated. You can take a look at the manual where PCB and wiring among other stuff is described (www.seip.co.uk/A_SERIE_433MHZ_250ERDEC_MITTELEUROPA.pdf). Once again thanks a lot.

hmmmm well, if it works when you flip the switch in SonWeb, but not when you turn it off in HA, there must be something wrong on the HA side. Check your switch entry in the configuration.yaml and check any automations you have that are using that switch.

For anyone trying this at home make sure you aren't using mains voltage with an exposed sonoff while working with it so closely. You should still be able to provide 3.3v over the vcc and gnd pins that the button is connected to while testing. I think the minimum input voltage is 90v for that input side so I would assume this is connected to mains. Going off of recommendations on the Super House KZbin channel when he covered Sonoff devices. You know your way around Sonoffs Dr. Zzz, mainly warning people who just arrived.

bummer. The process should be the same as flashing the first time. You don't have to erase first before re-installing. Old version is just replaced when new version is installed. "programming mode" essentially preps the chip to be wiped.

DrZzs just to tell you what happened. My SSID had a space on it so the firmware wasn't working properly so to fix it I had to hold the button for 40 seconds to reset the configuration and then when I told it my SSID it didn't crash and get corrupted

I was thinking perhaps in installing a spring loaded hinge and an electromagnetic holder installed on the wall . Maybe that could work for closing the door and avoid the use of a motor, but it’s something I’m thinking over.

Although a small question: Hi Everybody, If anybody could help me it would be nice :smiley: im using 2x sonoff T1 Dual switches (flashed with tasmota) and i would like to connect them with each other using the GPIO pins and tried to connect the GPIO of the first T1 to the GPIO of the second T1 switch. (to create a two way switch or an hotel switch) from downstairs to upstairs without the use of any domotica system. at this moment it doesn't seem to work. when i short the wires on 1 sonoff T1 the switch on the GPIO works fine but then i connect the first T1 to the second T1 nothing happens. (RX + Ground wire) anyone has a suggestion ? any advise is welcome :smiley: thanks in advance

I'd suggest using rules in Tasmota. It's not a wired solution, but it wouldn't rely on any other system either. I think what you're trying to do might work too. You'd have to make it so the connection uses a couple pins. One that senses a voltage change and one that sends a change on each board. I'd have to do some experimenting before I could tell you exactly how to do it. It's an interesting project. I'd like to see it work. Maybe ask in the Facebook page or Discord. Maybe someone else has tried something similar. (links to those are at DrZzs.com if you haven't already got them).
