Woah I hadn't realized quite how close new gamboge is to the hansa deep. I like the deep, it makes some nice mixtures. Good to know!

Did not realise how similar some of these yellows are! I love the warmth of Hansa Yellow Deep though. Thanks for the comparisons with different reds and blues. Very helpful.

I'm glad it's not just new painters like me that use too much water! A really useful, in-depth review of yellows.

This is awesome! I got the intro set with the split primaries and was looking at going to the Hansa Yellow deep when the New Gambouge ran out...now it's definite! Thank you

I really like your comparisons & limited palette videos. Comparing the shades of yellow to each other is really helpful, if you had done this video before I ordered paint last time I might have chosen different shades. It would certainly have taken me a lot less time to decide! lol When I am ready to buy more colors I will be watching these videos again. I would pick the Hansa Yellow Medium over the Light just because of the lightfast rating, which is silly because I am not likely to hang anything up. Thank you!

I agree! Think would have gotten the Da Vinci (medium yellow) but go through yellow quickly!

Very good comparison Teoh! I've been switching around my yellows a lot lately. For my DS Palette I've settled on Lemon Yellow PY175 and New Gamboge and for my Holbein Palette I'm using an Aso Yellow, but it's PY154, not PY151. It is very similar though and really easy to mix. For my warm yellow I've discovered PY110 which is a beautiful, golden yellow and worth checking out. I believe DS also has a PY110 and it's just beautiful. I'm sure I'll make it back around to the Hansas at some point! They are really great yellows.

JDub M. Graham’s Indian Yellow is PY110 and it is beautiful. It’s replaced Gamboge (New, hue, etc) on my palette. Love it!

Thanks for this. All the backruns are mostly because of the amount of water used!!

Thanks. I don't need any of the Hansa colors because I have the alternatives you showed. Very helpful video!

The Hansa Yellow Deep could be a nice mono-pigment alternative for New Gamboge.

Extremely helpful video! Guess I am not switching out the hansa yellow medium. BTW, find those runny colors very interesting--hard to control that, but Liz Steel calls that "watercolor magic".

One thing about learning to paint on the Fabriano studio, it forces me to control my water. And maybe that's why I mix all my colors ahead of time. I just got used to doing so and continue even though I have cotton paper now too. LOL 😋

I don't think you use too much water in your swatching. I love the way you mix colors!

Could a PY 154 (Mission Golf) yellow similar to Hansa yellow medium?

I like Hansa Yellow Medium the most because if you mix a tiny bit of Phthalo green into it you can make a lemony yellow. And it also makes very bright oranges when mixed with Transparent Pyrrol Orange.

I like Hansa Yellow Light - was one of my first professional watercolor tubes I bought. Having said that, it doesn’t have the best tinting strength, and it can be a bit more opaque than I want. Have been trying to decide on colors for my travel/sketch palette (got a new Portable Painter Palette recently) and the yellow choices have been a sticking point. This video helped...sort of...Azo Yellow has been one of the possibilities....but may have to look at DS’s lemon yellow as well. Too many colors to choose from isn’t a bad problem to have. :-)

So, Lemon Yellow and Cadmium Yellow Hue are just variations of Hansa Yellow?

Just a friendly suggestion...you work so hard to produce good quality videos (and I really appreciate them), but really let the video down by using cheap, thin, low-cotton paper that buckles! Perhaps spend a bit more on 640gms, 100% cotton paper that does justice to your swatches? You cut it up anyway, so it wouldn't really cost that much. Good work though.
