I think I prefer the 3ds sprites for mario and luigi, and the ds sprites for bowser. Something that doesn't need to go unnoticed is how much effort goes into the 3ds sprites though, people seem to ignore that. I do have a problem with bowser's overworld sprites in the remake, every angle looks like a different bowser, It's so weird.

All his animations have so much personality, and his attacks feel awesome and look cool to pull off. The model used for bowser in the remake was made to look like an intimidating boss, which it does, but it doesn't capture the same feeling as the og sprite did, especially when performing attacks

The main problems with the remake are the sound effects, which almost all sound worse than the original, and the fact that a battle takes too much to start. However the graphics on the 3DS version are some of the best on the console, you can clearly see it during the final battle

DEFINATELY. THE old story was funny, charming, sweet...and the new one seems rushed, and I thought it was lame the way they tell you early on the mystery of the blorbs in the new one. I hate to complain as I so love the old one, but the remake really disappointed me in the speech and story department. Only the graphics are better in the new one.

@@gilromerosaviinti9001 here's one way they could have kept it original as well as putting in Bowser jr. story as well Keep the original title menu and have it only say press start with the same water and Castle reflections and when you press Start it'll greet you with a menu before you go to the save file being able to choose between Bowser's Inside Story and Bowser jr. story and then I will take you to the save file of either which game you played that way it keeps the original title menu. If Nintendo insist on keeping the title menu for the 3DS that they have now they should have an option where you could change between the original theme that's remade the original and the one they have now. 🤓 Genious

Bowsers legs are too long in the remake. In the og, he was like a meatball. His whole sprite could pretty easily fit into a circle. Now he's stretched out more, and i think it makes his look much less cool/intimidating. Also, they made his jaw too long. Makes the mouth look weird when compared to the og sprite

The biggest problem in the Remake is not so much that some animations are not the same as the original, but that they made the Remake really too simple. The game itself was already easy of his own, but in the Remake they exaggerated to make it even easier (with slow attacks of enemies/bosses for example). Game to buy absolutely, but I still prefer the DS version.

Does it have to be cartoony to be good? The most I wanted out of the 3DS was a BIS remake and AlphaDream & Nintendo certainly delivered. If you listen to the title screen theme closely for the whole song you'll feel the melody of the original title screen theme as well as it emphasizing Bowser Jr.'s Journey. It creates a feel that fits both adventures. BIS and BJJ. The remake also handles atmosphere better than the original, especially in the endgame at Peach's Castle. The feeling of Fawful's takeover of Peach's Castle in the remake is substantially boosted. I agree with a comment from the BIS+BJJ soundtrack that says that Peach's Castle now has a more threatening feel than even Shroob Castle. Let's not forget about the Dark Star Core explosion in the remake because boi when I saw that, that became my favorite explosion in the series.

well.. no they don't, the style is nice and simplistic, but the 3ds looks better(besides the lower framerate) the game has cel shading which is very nice for the type of game it is and the environment is much more fleshed out in detail, dont let nostalgia blind you, though don't get me wrong the ds look is very appealing in its own way with the simplicity of its art which is what i loved as a kid, but replaying this game now on 3DS its like playing a new game completely, i wasn't expecting the 3d cut scenes nor did i realize how much more detail was in the new one into i watched this video, this being said that doesn't mean im telling you that you shouldn't like the older look as thats your own choice and preference, but the 3ds version looks objectively better. edit: forgot to mention, despite how i like the 3ds version, i think the old sound effects and music from the original game was much better and more satisfying to listen to compared to the 3ds version, i feel they dropped the ball a bit on that part :P

The animations and overall look of the game is really nice with the exception of a couple minor problems Imo. However the game is noticably slower. I watched the final boss video and the attacks just didn't have that same feeling of intense impact that the original has. There was also a couple of details overlooked Maybe I need to play the game for myself to get a better understanding.

I would definitely say that the classic pixel art is very charming, but the new style looks better in terms of overall quality. It's mostly people who prefer the original simply because it's what they're used to, and care about the original game because they really enjoyed it. This kind of thing will always happen when you try to remake a beloved game when there's been a sizable leap in graphical quality.

Man I played through both versions and watching this reminded me of great the game really was. Almost makes you wonder why they even bothered doing a remake because while most sprites look better I think bowers was a downgrade, battles took forever and we're honestly unnecessary, I safely avoided most battles in the game and barely struggled against the bosses, the original wasn't the hardest game but man I only saw gameover twice, the Original to this day can beat my ass if I'm not careful. Also did they half boss health because while battles take just as long later on, it feels like most of that length is just me waiting around for the game to stop trying to be flashy. I don't hate the remake or anything but it feels boring by comparison, don't even get me started on the sounds

Weird how the Blorbed Toad in the intro is the only Toad allowed to keep his unique design. It's a shame the remake doesn't use stereoscopic 3D at all, not even for the giant battles which use 3D models.

It's like primitive yet stylish vs tasteless yet detailed... Playing 3DS version mostly for the story. Someone said it should be one of the most interesting and fun in the series. But so far couple of hours into the game it's still boring as any other Mario & Luigi game to my taste. Hope it will get better. Planning to finish it through anyway (played through Partners in Time on DS). Somehow Nintendo charm does not work on me at all for this series ((( I want more games like Paper Mario Wii. It was brilliant.

I dislike that it runs slower than the DS version, but it's surprisingly close to the original in most ways. 3 hours in I'd say that the SS remake is both more necessary and better, but I still felt that I should own the devs' last game. I'm definitely gonna pass on this one. Literally the same graphics as dream team which most people aren't a fan of myself included. I didn't enjoy dream team cause the graphics looked so out of place. Not enjoying the look of this game, plus I still own the original which in my opinion looks better. The art style fits the genre and themes of the game more, the humor fits better with the old sprites.

Hawns321 The art style isn’t even bad. In fact, in my opinion it’s superior! I appreciate the higher amount of detail in the Ames since Dream Team. They’re not gonna make new assets when the ones they have work just fine, especially if it’s not a new game.

Yes the original is a bit harder, but not too much. The main campaign is a bit trickier in the original version due to some mechanics. For example, the Fawful Train is irritating to do in the original because you need to get greats or excellents on every fire breath with the janky microphone, its a lot worse with a 3ds than a DS. If you are taking on the boss gauntlet, the original is way harder. Most X bosses got nerfed in the remake. Bowser X has literally 7000hp in the remake compared to the 5800 in the remake.

Prognosticus A few extra seconds every fight over the course of a 30 hour long RPG adds up to a massive amount of additional time spent just waiting, and discourages you from wanting to engage enemies. The fact that this wasn’t considered by the dev team makes them seem a bit shortsighted or incompetent.

They made the remake too similar to the rest of the m&l games on 3DS. Next to the fact that it looks way too extra in everything vissually, at least in Bowsers body.

There's no denying that the 3DS one looks much better, but slow loading times aside there is one really important thing they absolutely fucked up. Bowser. He just looks like a fat, immobile blob and his facial expressions aren't as expressive as they should be. In the DS one Bowser looks like the big, menacing beast he is, but in the remake he looks fat and goofy. I don't know how they managed to make old Bowser's animations so expressive and impactful while the remake has bigger sprites to work with and Bowser barely even moves in most of his animations. I mean, have you seen his punching animation? What is he doing, cheering for the enemy? Why does he lift his arm up like that? There's barely even any impact when he hits... Bowser plays such a large role in this game and somehow he's the one thing they completely mess up, how does that even happen?

So I see what they mean about changing all the female Toads into looking generic. It is like with Superstar Saga and all of Bowser's airship Koopa's don't have any gear. Regardless I am playing this. :)

Late comment, but I own both versions, and I prefer to play the remake even tho I grew up with the og, that's just my opinion ^^
