I liked Bowser's modern Sprite better in paper jam and dream team. In those games, he was ferocious and vicous, which his in game battle Sprite perfectly depicts imo. He's not as menacing in the games prior to dream team on the 3ds, so it doesn't fit imo. I don't consider them to be bad, tho. They're not quite as expressive, but I like the way that they look nonetheless. However, Bowser's angry animation from the DS Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story... Can't be beat imo.

Exactly as expected. The original game is absolutely brilliant (2nd best Mario RPG after TTYD), and it would take a lot for the remake to ruin that, but at the same time, it doesn't really add too much, doesn't really have to exist. Still, nice to have, and I'd highly recommend that ANYONE with a 3DS who doesn't have the original pick this up ASAP.

I literally just finished my original Bowser's inside story this morning for first time I have had this game sense I was at lest 8 or 9 I'm 17 now and I just got the remake a few hours ago so far I love it and I love how you can listen to the original music on the sound test I definitely recommend it to any Mario fan this was also my first Mario & Luigi RPG game

I went in about a week ago to get a used copy and the GameStop employee gave me the original for the ds. I told him I wanted the 3ds version and he told me that they never remade it on the 3ds. I genuinely think this game was just not cared about by Nintendo. Even at target I still see new copies of the superstar saga remake but I don’t see bowsers inside story anywhere. Really sad to me to be honest.

I HEAVILY disagree with the notion that the Bowser Jr's Journey sidemode isn't an improvement over its predecessor Bowser's Minions. There were a good few positive additions: 1.) The ability to see the formations BEFORE you enter battle, thus letting you better build your strategy going in 2.) The "First Officer" function, which allows for even more experimenting with your formation 3.) Game-changing status effects past a certain point (won't spoil when for you folks here in the comments) Also, I don't know how it was for whoever did the review, but the battle system in BJrJ has been REALLY engaging me. For a fair bit of the battles, I'm either having to use a Captain Command or -- most often -- perform a combo with one (or more) of my mooks. It might not be the same type of engagement as the main mode, but it IS fun imo.

I hear the new story is fine like minion quest’s, but the gameplay is lacking. Minion quest was also pretty random with how the battles play out, so it’s not as fun for some people (including me) I had to look up a walkthrough... :( The new features in jr’s journey are alright imo and I haven’t had any troubles so far, but I’m mainly playing it for the story. I salute you for how you enjoyed the minion quest when I didn’t.

I kinda understand why Bowser's Inside Story (BIS) was remaked before Partners in Time (PT). In Superstar Saga (SS), one of the villains, Fawful, returns in BIS as the main villain to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and get his revenge. Basically, BIS is the true sequel to SS. Yes, Fawful appears in PT but not in a important position, being just a shopkeeper in a store that I believe you can beat the game without enter the store once. BIS concludes a story that started in SS, which was remaked in 2017, and that's why I believe PT was skipped from being remaked first. Of course, if we were not at the possible end of the 3DS lifetime, this could be a different story.

I'm gonna have to disagree on your statement of "Bowser Jr's Journey doesn't really improve on the gameplay in Minion's Quest." 1) The addition of group attacks allowed for more experimentation when it came to squad formations. The fact that multiple enemies can perform them at once also means you use less captain points to deny. I just thought it was pretty neat. 2) The addition of first officers allows for more captain commands. Sure, some of them were reused from Minion Quest, but some of the newer ones (Stop and Drop or Shield, for example) were helpful a lot of the time. I enjoyed planning out (as much as I could) when to use them and such. 3) The ability to play with the actual formation of your squad to different boosts in battle adds another layer of strategy to the game, as it also determined which troops would attack which enemies first. 4) The ability to see what the upcoming squads are composed of and their formations. In Minion's quest, all they give you is a list of enemies that will appear. I remember how frustrating it was trying to make the most effective squad possible because I didn't know exactly what I was dealing with. In Bowser Jr's Journey, while they don't tell you outright what enemies you'll be facing, they tell you the TYPE as well as how they're arranged. It was easier to figure out which troops would be best to use, and overall it made the game less frustrating than it could have been. I'm not really sure what you were doing that made the mode such a chore to play, but the entire time I played it most battles were down to the wire and demanded my full attention. It was always stuff like "Should I deny this group attack and risk not being able to perform a showdown later?" or "If I use Parry now I can maximise my CP usage, nice." Though all of this could chalk up to me being way too invested in BJJ for my own good. Overall, I think BJJ greatly improved on the mechanics introduced in MQ. Sure, the battles are still automatic, but they're more engaging, and you have more control over your squad formation than ever before. I can't really think of a single way MQ is better than BJJ. (also the writing and music is fantastic as always)

The only real minus to both modes in my opinion is that there are still cutscenes that play the first time you enter an area that you cannot watch again. Why, in a mode with such good cutscenes, and with a menu option designed to let you rewatch scenes tied to battles, can't there simply be an extra space at the start for the area intro scenes? It is such a weird case of going halfway. But gameplay wise and story wise, both are great, and BJJ definitely improves.

The original version of this game is actually the only M&L game I've played. Nevertheless, I am super hyped for this game!

I think Partners in Time wasn't remade before Bowsers Inside Story because Partners in Time didn't utilize the touch screen much. It did use the Dual screen concept of the DS for a few things but it didn't utilize the touch, which is why I think it was skipped because maybe they'll remake it for the Switch instead? Idk just my wishful thinking.

This game was my most favorite game when I was a kid. Played it so many times and it never failed to keep me uninterested. The game felt so good when I was little and this 3DS version disappointed me on a lot of design parts. I might just be too nit picky, but the changes they made to certain moves where you could attack to what felt endless if you didn’t miss, the mega bowser model looks as if it’s a near copy of the super mario galaxy model, the new animation effect that plays when you vanquish a boss is barely satisfactory to what it once was, and for some reason when doing the finishing punches sequence with dark bowser, they chose to continue playing the music instead of silencing it which almost near ruins the victorious and exhilarating feeling you get in the original ds version. Those were just some of the best things I’ve felt in the original and not getting that back is disappointing. However I highly praise how amazing the game looks and the finishing moves they gave mega bowser were beyond perfect. It seriously was given such a good improvement on how it originally looked before and bowser couldn’t look better then ever along with the brothers.

I was kinda disappointed they didn't incorporate the 3d effect. I feel they really could've bowser's insides look really cool with the 3d. But it's ok. At least they remembered about the m&l series and remade some of the games. Am I the only one that feels like this is the end of the m&l series? : C

A-Zombie 45 It will be if these haters cause the game to bomb worldwide! I don’t see how they could have made it 3D. That would require them to redesign the game, and they might as well just put it on the Switch if they have to go to the trouble of redesigning it.

montork Dream Team was built from the ground up for the 3ds. This game wasn’t, so it cannot be in 3D unless they move the bottom screen segments to the top or change some of the mini games. Why is this so hard to understand? Besides, those 2d environments were NOT made for 3D like DT and PJ’s 3D rendered environments were.

ALL OF THE ART WAS RE DRAWN FROM THE GROUND UP. THEY WHERE ALREADY REDOING THE GAME? all they had to do was put the art they made on different asset levels and set them on different levels stereoscopicly in the program. montork Not as embarrassing as the way you typed your response. Art style has absolutely nothing to do with this! It’s all technical reasons. Compare Dream Team to this game and you’ll see why it can’t be in 3D: Dream Team has 3D rendered environments and the game takes place all on the TOP SCREEN. BiSDX uses 2.5D flat environments that would not be able to display good looking 3D. The bottom screen isn’t 3D capable, so they obviously cannot do it there. So because they kept BiS the same, they cannot work in 3D. I don’t usually say this, but you sound incredibly stupid so I suggest you educate yourself before replying to me again.

I hate how they changed all the voice clips of Mario luigi and bowser to dream teams. They also made the text sound boring to listen to. Remember in the original most characters had unique text sounds. Like Starlow bowser peach fawful?

new super mario bros U switch- literally the same game in the wii u the only diffrent is toadette 60$ mario and luigi bowser inside story + bowser jr adventure- the graphics (IMO) are amazing,a new mode playing with bowser jr and bowser minions, the music are *_Perfect_* and it is 40$

Great review, this is one of the mario rpgs I wish I had got into. Really looks like one of the best M and L games. Plus you can play as Bowser. Come on what more do you need

I haven't played any of the M&L games, which I REALLY want to. When I get the chance to play all, and after I play Superstar Saga, should I go to Partner's in Time or Bowser's Inside Story (I'll be playing both remakes on the 3DS, while finding a DS copy of PiT)?

I personally prefer the og, the sprites are way more charming, same with the voice clips. I have no idea why they changed the voices! I also really don’t like the 3D models in the giant battles. They look ugly and out of place. Dream Teams looked at lot more natural. The only thing I like about this game better than is the fact you don’t have to blow into the mic in giant Battles.

The characters (especially bowser) lost a bit of charm and expression on the jump from gba to the ds, and they lost a bit more on the jump to 3ds.

i prefer the originals over the remakes anytime of the day. Superstar Saga is the only one that truly needed a remake and anything else is just extra. it kinda reminds me of how Monster Hunter World puts out Arch Tempered monsters as fluff to make up for no actual new content. to keep people held on until the Iceborne expansion. if that means the same for the Mario & Luigi franchise, then so be it. do whatever you want as long as we get a new game and it’s good
