Yeah , she did lose the flute like silvery quality in her voice. A certain suppleness in the way of carrying the voice. It was always strong but glided from note to note even the high belt. It became hollower and hollower with time passing by, especially at the turn of the 80's where she hit a bad patch with it ( or is it the bad quality of those records she did with those minor recording companies since she actually sounded better live than on record?)

It’s truly sad that the men in her life never cared for her as herself and that she was turned down for film roles because of her color. Such a beautiful woman with such a beautiful singing voice. You can hear the emotion and know that she’s experienced the songs in real life, such as “yesterday when I was young”, “ where do I begin “, “ this is my life “, “yourself “ and plenty more.
