John and I have agreed that at my passing that the fork should be donated to the NC museum of history in Raleigh NC. Hopefully that wont occur for a good while.

My Grandpa was a musician who traveled a lot during the 50's through the 70's. He played some fair in North Carolina where he saw Rufus shooting. Well, my grandpa bought a slingshot off him and then gave it to my dad as a gift cause my dad was into slingshots as a kid. My dad taught me how to shoot and gave me that sling which i still have to this day. Not until the past few years people has been trying to buy it off me. My dad and i didnt realize how much this thing would be worth these days to a collector. It was my 2nd slingshot and it didnt have the original bands. My dad is a round band shooter to this day. My dad also made his slingshots out of metal, old car parts like welded together inner tie rods or certain mounts from certain types of vehicles that has slingshot shaped material (modified of of course)... im kind of scared to use the Rufus frame these days. I dont want it to break and now that i know its worth something I'll probably give it to my boys if theyre ever in a pinch but knowing them theyll probably save it cause they're shooters too. My youngest is 4 and can nail a squirrel right in the head from about 15' 1 out of 3 shots from a moving target. My oldest is just as good. Theyre both better than me..

I've been watching old Ruffus for the past hour. What a great character he was. Loved the Johnny Carson appearance. Laughed hard. Cheers from Sydney Australia, mate.

Shot the corn cob in two then shot the remaining stub out of his hand. It stung so bad Johnny was shaking his hand as he walked back to Rufus.

I'VE SEEN RUFUS SHOOT GOOD SIZE BEATLES OFF LEAVES BUT A LADY BUG GET REAL.HE MAY HAVE SHOT THEM IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS ,BUT THE OLDER HE GOT HIS EYE SIGHT ALSO GOT OLDER.HE WAS THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN,ITS LIKE HE HAD A MAGIC BEANSHOOTER.

There's video evidence of him shooting Japanese beetles off bean plant leaves and not hurting the leaf. A Japanese beetle and a lady bug are practically the same size.

WOW! Pearlygates21 Are you from piedmont NC? Would you by chance have a uncirculated video of Rufus shooting put up. If you post it on youtube most likely get million hit. Sometime maybe you could post pic. of your forks on Rebel slingshot forum under old masters topic.

Farfromhere001...... I'm afraid you're a bit late to meet him. Rufus passed away on Feb. 24th, 1994.... he was born March 12th, 1919 (75yrs...almost).

He said in a video that it did not matter where his rear arm was. He aimed with the front arm. Oposite of what is told in your video.

And he shot a corn cob out of Carson's hand. Not a cigarette out of his mouth. Crazy how people remember things they think they saw. That's how legends and myths are started.
