Included is a series of patches I have made since July 2021. I recorded everything here within one run, so you will hear whatever mistakes I make as I go through all of the patches to give you a feel for how they all sound. There is no reverb on these sounds (as much as I would have preferred how they sounded). Anything you hear will sound the same on my unit as it does on yours. Small amount of master limiting was used.
A few notes though - you are advised to turn your Master Volume up. This is because there is a strange behavior on the Prophet 12 where if you lower the Master Volume, you may hear very strange differences in panning of voices, hence, my Master Volume is at Maximum and my VCA values are much lower to compensate. This has worked well for me. I actually had sent my unit in for diagnostics for fear that something was wrong. Sequential informed me that this was normal behavior.

An hour of musical artistry delivered in patch format. A delight to listen all the way through and the payoff is P99 and Sadness. That patch and improvisation should be a real soundtrack. Your love hate relationship with the P12 has had me wanting one for ages with all the sounds that you have coaxed out of it. But I have passed on every good deal so far. This bank will make the next pass all the more difficult. I will probably end up with this bank before I ever have a P12... just in case.

Hah, well, I wouldn't do that (getting the bank before a P12)! Thanks so much for stopping by. I basically didn't know what patches I'd be playing until I got to them, lol - because 99 patches is a lot to go through! My advice would be... save up for a Poly Evolver or buy an Ambika!

you did a great job of making the synth look cool on camera lol. The 12 is so underrated. Sure the oscillators are digital but I really love the saw and you can make endless keys patches with the wavetables. I run it into an H90 and it's one of the best sounding synths I have with everything panned out in stereo etc, and I have way too many.

Wow, amazing sounds! I'm warming up to the idea of picking up a P12 for my next poly. I really love the old-school digital/analog hybrid synths of yore like the DW-8000, SQ-80, etc and the sound of the P12 reminds of those machines. Yet so much more complex.

@@MIDERA That was a somewhat harsh review! Idk sir, the sounds you've made here would conflict with what you wrote in the review (please take that as a complement!). I've only played a P12 once at Perfect Circuit in LA, and my initial impression was that it sounded 'high class' and somewhat different - that was just mucking around with presets for a bit though. I have a somewhat eclectic collection of synths ranging from an Alesis Andromeda to a lowly Akai Timbrewolf and I find something to love in all of them. IF I do end up with a P12, I'll come back here and let you know what I think! :)

I totally agree that mostly I find sounds I love from everything. If they do something unique, I keep them. The P12 does some unique things, so maybe I’m being too critical.

unfortunately my P12 (limited edition in white) went bad and eventhough they shipped it back to the US, they couldnt repair it... they did return the money, but i miss very much the best synth i have ever had... the best... the UI, the sounds, the effects (well, some), everything...
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 2 ай бұрын
Wait - what happened to your P12? The White edition is amazing. How.... could they not fix it? That's such a bummer. You could probably fix it (since the White edition is so much more money) by scavenging other units. Possibly even the desktop units. But... I'm curious what's wrong with it. Also - if you decide to do nothing with it, the 3rd wave is a really good alternative, although it's even more expensive, but the UI is almost identical and I think it sounds better personally.

Beautiful as always. Where do you stand in regard to the polyevolver or prophet 12? Similar architecture I believe? ✌️
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 2 жыл бұрын
I think I cover that a little bit in my Prophet 12 review (linked in the description hopefully). The answer is: the Poly Evolver is the better synth in all respects except UI. But I get to where I want to go much easier on it anyway. It’s insane to me that the P12 came out afterwards. They share so many features, you can see how the P12 was inspired by the Poly Evolver, and yet, it’s got almost nothing on it.

i read on some comments a reference to the Summit but IMO there is a DW8000 even a Poly800 mood
@MIDERA
@MIDERA Жыл бұрын
I’ve had a DW8000 and loved it. Not had a 800 or summit though, so I couldn’t say. Sometimes this sounds like a low budget Radias with a poorly thought out arpeggiator and an amazing UI. It’s a very strange synth. If it sounded anything like my poly evolver - it would be the perfect synth.

I notice your review mentions some roll off around 15k. Did you try changing the brightness CC value? I have the module version which has no reference to that in the UI, but my external controller has a few knobs, of which I’ve added a brightness control which opens up the top end quite a bit. Thoughts?
@MIDERA
@MIDERA 2 жыл бұрын
That would be extremely weird if that affected the brightness that much. I see the CC value that you speak of: CC parameter 74. It's not referenced anywhere else in the manual. From a topic online, it appears to be another way to control the LPF cutoff on a global level, from what I'm reading. I suspect this won't actually increase the brightness: forum.sequential.com/index.php?topic=502.0 I was so hopeful :/ Maybe I'll give it a try anyway.

In reaction to your review... the prophet 12 is limited in ways that one would not expect.... and it's powerful in ways other synths aren't. Personally I would have preferred brighter osc's exposing aliasing and quirks. It would have been nice to have a brightness knob to let the grunge in like on a Waldorf Blofeld. But I guess it's part of a well thought out design. Let's embrace the synth for all its power and except that's it doesn't have the muscle that say a prophet 5 has. I use this synth for many purposes and it's a breeze to work with. Still I'd love to have a Poly Evolver for the more raw power... the P 12 is definitely more controlled and smooth... and can indeed be a harsh... I guess no instrument can be everything.

Good summary. I actually made a new INIT patch I like where the two parts are panned L/R and it sounds way more full. In some ways the P12 is better than the PE, but the PE wins in some other ways. Not sure which I actually like more to be honest. They’re both good. I don’t think I’d sell a P12 for a PE and vice versa. That’s why I have too much shit.
