the only thing I could think of as a positive may be if you have arthritis and struggle to grip a sanding stick, maybe this could help but it doesn't seem to be any better for anyone else.

I’ve had one of these for a couple of weeks now and I love it. The curved heads and the corner head are very useful. It’s a tool to use as well as your sanding sticks not instead of. The pads are going to last me ages so I for one think this is a useful addition to my toolbox.

can you use it while charging?

@@kramsogrub8104 so the usb c charging cable is only 8 inches long. Also the unit does not switch on when being charged. I’ve only charged it up from a half charge and it didn’t take long (30 mins).

It would help if you used the tool properly. When you use your hand sander you rubbed backwards and forwards only - With the tool you were moving it backwards and forwards (which you don't need to do as it is a reciprocating sander) but you also went in circles with it - you don't do that with your hand sander, therefore the test you did was totally different to how you used the hand one.

Exactly, let the tool do the work. Pointless having something if all you are going to do is the same actions as before

It's funny...as I watched this I was using your old foam backed sanding stick/pads. I'm going to seriously MISS those when I've worked through my supply. Thanks Phil. I can maybe see a use for this tool...but is it really worth it for a very few needs? Not sure.

Nice tool, reciprocating like a sawzall or jigsaw motion. Neato!

I totally agree with this. I bought one and almost instantly regretted it. It's underpowered and the usage is limited. There are some instances I found it useful, particularly in very tight situations and corners, (I make resin 3D prints), but often a sanding stick or needle file will do the job just as well, and often better. I should also point out, this thing is damned expensive (£35 UK) for what it is, for what is effectively a modified sex toy. And adding fancy flashing lights to a cheap plastic vibrator does not improve the quality or value of the product.

Thanks for the review. I love many of the Dspiae tools but I wasn't sure of this one. After your review, I am going to pass.

I think it's falls into the category of just one more tool to help build. Just like hobby knife handles are so much different in ones hands but, do the same job in the end. IMHO.

How can you possibly compare it to manual sanding? It may be the same speed as manual sanding but it's less labor which is the fundamental function of an electric sander, to take the labor out of manual sanding. I mean who cares about the speed, I sure don't, I care about the labor put into the sanding. If it can be done easier by electric sanding then that is the key ingredient. I also have a Proxxon sander and it's great but there's not as many varieties on detachable bits for the exception of the angled bits which the Dspiae doesn't have, The Dspiae has more of a variety of different sizes which is a big plus imho. Just worth mentioning that if you search on the printables website you can find a small 3D printable stand/holder for the Dspiae bits, it's pretty nice and makes reaching for them much easier and quicker for ease of access.

Sandpaper leaves scratches so chisel is the top tool to deal with pin marks. This tool better be equipped with micro saw blade attached.
@TryptychUK

So use finer sandpaper.
@vibeforge
@vibeforge 2 ай бұрын
@@TryptychUK you should know how any grit sandpaper works comparing to chisel and file - it scratches the plastic with sharp edges of sand particles, not cuts away chips with blade. Optical magnification will help you see small scratches, which also become prominent after silver and chrome airbrushing over.
@TryptychUK
@TryptychUK 2 ай бұрын
@@vibeforge That all depends on how fine you go. 2000+ grit and you are polishing. Once primed, you could apply a mirror finish.
@vibeforge
@vibeforge 2 ай бұрын
@@TryptychUK instead of gradual wet sanding and polishing I use chisel on any roughness surface to even it flat then I use backside of chisel to lap prepared surface to mirror state. This way I restore scratched, distorted with glue and CA-frozen clear parts into fully transparent without distortions. Evaluate your time and use proper tools.
@TryptychUK
@TryptychUK 2 ай бұрын
@@vibeforge Maybe you have the skill to be so accurate, but most would end up taking off too much and ruining the part. I generally do scifi type spaceships etc with mostly flat surfaces, so using a marble tile and wet & dry ensures I get parallel lines that I can constantly check and recheck.

It doesn't have the large area of a cusom made 'block' sander, thus it doesn't do the job as evenly. Also the tool heads should have a longer 'arm' so you can get into more difficult areas. All in all, it seems to save ZERO time, and do a notably WORSE job than a manual sander!! I expect it would have uses in SOME cases, so it is not a total waste, but in grand total it is of little use at all !! You would only have one as an extra tool, for special cases that it really did help with. It is not a good replacement for a sander block!

Someone's already said it but it seems as if once again Dspiae - and I do like their tools - are looking for a problem for their solution. Thing is, I've attached, by white glue, a small piece of wet-n-dry paper, roughly circular, to the stirring end of my Badger paint stirrer - and that seems to suit me.

Now, do the same for curved surfaces inner and outer, difficult corners where you are trying to get a panel to fit, or spherical objects. Sorry mate, thanks and all for the first impressions but this isnt a very good all round test to see the difference in what the tool can do. I can easily cut through a metal bar or billet with a hacksaw. Lot of effort back and forth, but with a grinder and cutting disck or a bandsaw, its more efficient and easier. Same with this tool. Stop moving your hand back and forth to do the work, let the tool do that for you. what you are doing is the same as trying to cut through a bar of metal and moving the metal not the hacksaw in my opinion.
