The enraged form of Don't Starve Together's Dragonfly is pretty tough. Let's solo speedrun kill her on day 3.
The Don't Starve Together Dragonfly has 27,500 health, deals 75 unarmored damage, and doesn't have an insanity aura. At 80%, 50% and 20% health, she'll spawn fire minions called lavae. If all of the fire minions die, then the Dragonfly becomes enraged - while enraged, the damage from her swipe attack is doubled to 150, her speed increases by 40% - and, dragonfly was already really fast in her normal form, so this is a dramatic increase. The range of her attack increases by 20%, and the time between attacks decreases by 25%. In other words, she's much faster, and attacks more often with increased range and double the power. When enraged she adds a pound attack to her repertoire that is - at least supposed to - hit you 3 times for 225 damage, but due to a bug it's possible to get hit 6 times in a row if you're unlucky for an obscene 450 points of damage. Oh, and even being near enraged dragonfly sets you on fire.
It's no surprise that people do whatever they can to avoid the enraged form of Dragonfly.
The first strategy that was and still is in widespread use for Dragonfly is the wall strategy showcased by truMadness. You enclose yourself, or the lava pools, in walls and then tank the Dragonfly. This makes it so that lavae can't get to you, and back then lavae didn't have a death timer so the Dragonfly would never enrage.
A few months after the wall strat showcase, I released my Dragonfly speedrun where I faced the Dragonfly without walls. My strategy was to kill all of the lavae except one, and then I'd use the Dragonfly herself as a physical barrier so that when the lavae leaped it'd be impeded by the Dragonfly. This wasn't at all an easy task because I had to simultaneously keep track of the lavae's position and attack period, my position and distance relative to the Dragonfly, and the Dragonfly's attack period.
But after an update, the lavae stopped behaving in the same way. Now they sort of zone in on you making the old strat untenable.
I'm not sure if the developers intentionally patched the lavae behavior. They couldn't possibly think of that as cheese. Could they? Maybe it looks easier than it was. That is, if any of them even saw the video. I'm not sure how much attention they pay to youtube. It must have been a side-effect of some other change they made.
Along with the change in lavae behavior, they added a death timer to lavae so there's a greater likelihood that players will face the enraged form. You can now avoid the enraged form in a few ways. First, you can simply do damage to the Dragonfly quickly enough to trigger the next minion spawning session before the last minion dies. Second, you can put the Dragonfly to sleep, freeze the dragonfly, or add enough moisture to the Dragonfly via waterballoons or rain to extinguish and revert her back to the normal form.
It's a bit tricky straight up fighting the enraged form of Dragonfly though. It's not like enraged Klaus where, once enraged, it's enraged forever. With Dragonfly, I'll have to re-enrage her multiple times throughout the fight. Dragonfly has health triggers that cause her to spawn minions when her health dips below certain thresholds, and this reverts her back to normal. She also has a timer associated with her enraged form, so even if you do nothing but run around in circles, she will eventually transform back.
The most annoying part of re-enraging her is killing the final lavae. It sort of hugs the Dragonfly, so I have to target it with the mouse, and even getting it targeted with the mouse is finicky because the Dragonfly is so big it gets in the way.
In order to avoid the fire damage that I'll take simply by standing near the enraged Dragonfly, I'll need to craft some scalemail. Scalemail completely nullifies fire damage, so you can be totally lit on fire and you'll be A-OK. If you do enough damage to Dragonfly in a certain period of time, specifically 1250 damage within 5 seconds, you'll stun her. She'll remain stunned for 10 seconds, and if you deal at least 2500 damage to her within that 10 second window, then she'll drop a scale. With this scale I can craft the necessary scalemail before I have to face the enraged form.
Mighty Wolfgang can deal this sort of damage by himself if he has a dark sword, but with starter equipment like a hambat, I'll need to recruit at least 3 pigmen to help me deal damage quickly enough. This is the only reason for the pig buddies. I'd prefer to do it all myself, mostly because the pigs add a chaotic element to the fight if they aren't killed before Dragonfly enrages, like say if they draw the Dragonfly's aggro when I'm in a nice pattern. Gee, thanks pig.
