It's one of TSO's earliest if not the first appearance as a band which basically is Savatage in tux. The fact that Paul O'Neill brought Criss Oliva's gargoyle guitar on TV said a lot about this group of fine people, about their emotional connection...May those two jam in heaven now.

The song was written by Jon Oliva, Paul O'Neil, & Criss Oliva!! The band was call Savatage & they rocked the Tampa, FL rock clubs!! Sadly, on October 17, 1993, Criss was killed & his wife Dawn was critically injured. There was a days long roxk festival called Livestock Festival in a small town just north of Tampa, FL, called Zephyrhills. Some of the town did not want to have the Livestock Festival. It would bring drugs & booze to Zephyrhills. Jon & Dawn were headed north on Hwy 301. The male person who killed Criss & badly injured Dawn was a drunk driver, but this 7 time DUI convict was going to his job. He had a BAL of .294!! Cars were parked along either side of 301. The drunk was also impatient with the traffic going south. He tried to pass the people in front of him and slammed head on into Criss & Dawn!! He was eventually convicted of DUI #8!! He was found guilty of DUI & vehicular homicide etc. and spent an entire 18 months in prison!! Eighteen months for causing the death of Criss!!??!!?? The death just broke Criss' brother, Jon! Criss' beloved wife Dawn was never the same. So much pain that never healed. On January 11, 2005, Dawn joined Criss in heaven!! Paul O'Neil has passed too. You can google Criss' name on you tube to watch and listen to Criss play that guitar!!

I saw TSO for the first time just a couple days ago Thursday, December 26th (2019) in St. Louis. SPECTACULAR! Honestly the lights were a bit over the top but that's one of the trademarks of their shows--lasers, smoke, fire, snow, multi-screen video, rising/descending light clusters and musician platforms, etc. Almost like there is more focus in the lighting and effects than the excellent music. No complaints here just still in analysis mode of an amazing show. Highly recommended. As a musician/performer myself it's very interesting the diverse crowd they attract: young and old, blue jeans and teeshirts to tuxes, families to rockers. Pretty cool model for success. Very memorable evening!

Disagree, I think if Chris Caffrey had stuck around after Dead Winter Dead they could have made one more of the theme albums they were notorious for, I was always hoping they would rock something along the lines of Operation Mindcrime. I feel the transition to TSO killed that, and a lot of the originality. Too much orchestra, not enough rock n roll.

FUN FACT. As a die-hard Trans Siberian Orchestra fan, I'm pretty darn sure this is probably the only time the eight original members of the band performed together!! Or at least were seen performing together live on a stage: Paul O'Neill (guitar/leader), Jon Oliva (keyboard/leader), Al Pitrelli (guitar), Robert Kinkel (Keys), Chris Caffrey (Guitar), Johnny Lee Middleton (Bass), Jeff Plate (Drums), and original string master Mark Wood. I would say the very first 1999 tour when it was just one touring group but even then O'Neill and Oliva weren't on stage.
