"Du sollst mein Glücksstern sein!" is the German version of Nacio Herb Brown's classic "You are my Lucky Star" which was featured in the musical "Broadway Melody of 1936" starring Eleanor Powell and Robert Taylor. The song is performed throughout the movie by several of its stars. Both the movie and the song were extremely popular in Germany and German versions of "You are my Lucky Star" were recorded by several artists and orchestras including Peterj Kreuder’s big band and Rudi Schuricke. Today's video features a rarely heard recording by Swiss tenor Herbert Ernst Groh accompanied by the Odeon studio orchestra conducted by Otto Dobrindt.
The accompanying video features sequences from German and Austrian movies made between 1930 and 1936. These sequences have been restored, upscaled to a 4K resolution and colorized. The colorization is AI based and NOT historically accurate. It is purely for entertainment purposes. It brings to life actresses and actors long gone some of whom were never seen in colour. The software used includes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and Topaz Video AI.
It features stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Lilian Harvey, Olga Tschechowa, Paula Wessely, Adele Sandrock, Sybille Schmitz, Käthe von Nagy, Anny Ondra, Max Schmeling, Hans Albers, Renate Müller, Adolf Wohlbrück, Willy Fritsch, Heinz Rühmann, Jenny Jugo and a sequence from the revue finale of "Premiere". Details can be found in the video.
The record was transferred using a Graham Slee Revelation M Phono Preamp (bass Turnover 250 Hz - Rolloff 0) in combination with a Klark Teknik Tube Equalizer and a Rek-O-Kut De-Hisser. The stylus and cartridge used is a Grado 78C Mono. Editing was done in Adobe Audition. The record is in quite bad condition.
