We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4 tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac, or simply as an overlanding Defender.
We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

Nous sommes une famille de 4 dont 2 enfants. Nous voyageons depuis des années sur les pistes dans notre Land Rover Defender 110.
Notre véhicule d’expédition est un Defender aménagé. Certains le décrivent plus comme un véhicule de survie mais pour nous c’est le parfait compromis d’aménagement 4x4 et tout-terrain pour le camping.

Very well explained, a few people have struggled with DC to DC with smart alternators in the past. Andrew St Pierre White has done an in depth video on this well worth watching if your vehicle has a smart alternator. My old 110 had twin batteries with the manual isolator switch for 5 years like you said very simple as I only used the aux battery to power LED lights a small 12v shower and 12v fridge occasionally the system was overkill. On my new vehicle I decided to upgrade the starter battery and do away with a second battery and fit a power station instead it charges from mains 240v, DC 12v and also has a built in solar controller. The other benefit is I can remove it from the vehicle and use it in a stand alone tent or have lighting and power away from the vehicle. The only down side I can see is if it stops working for some reason it's back to torches etc.

Thanks for your message! If the main battery is only weak yes you can link both batteries with the IBS, but don't forget that with this setup if your battery is totally discharged your system won't detect the second battery and all your system will be unusable. But this situation is almost impossible if your dual battery system is correctly wired & used. As a backup, we have a little Noco portable jump starter.

Bonjour Michel, merci pour votre message! Nous avons 2 Optima Yellow Top de 55Ah. Auparavant une était notre batterie de démarrage et l'autre la batterie auxiliaire. Mais nos besoins ont évolué et nous avons couplé ces deux batteries pour en faire notre batterie de démarrage et avons comme batterie auxiliaire une Victron AGM 170Ah.

Thanks for your message! Our two Optimas are linked together to make them our starter battery, then the IBS is connected to our starter battery (2x Optimas) & to our auxiliary one (1x Victron).

We have the IBS from IBS-tech.ch and yes we have the shunt that goes with the Victron BMV-712 smart monitor. You can see all our gear on our last walk around video.
