My biggest pro tips related to wiring. No electrical tape, no soldering, I use uninsulated terminals with heat shrink just about everywhere. Always leave a bit extra wire. Cut your zip ties flush. Don't force the wire. Label everything and have a plan. Dielectric grease is your friend. Some materials (cheap loom) is not uv stable. The type of wire matters (preferably is stranded gxl).I should really make a video on a lot of what I've learned.

I was all about a portable power station, but I have decided to run both, a PPS and a dual battery. We are in serious bear country, so having the fridge locked in the back of the Jeep at night while we are in our shelter a bit away is ideal. In our tent or the small TD trailer, we can have the PPS to power devices, the trailer fan etc., while the dual system's house battery runs the fridge. With the inverter, if we choose to have one, we have many options for using solar, or the house battery to charge the PPS or just the solar.

Wow the timing of this video could not be more perfect. I just bought a Engel fridge for the 4Runner and I am starting to look at power needs. I also ordered a NOCO boost box to jump start me if I run my single AGM battery too low. So I guess I am taking the route that Kevin suggested at LifeStyle Overland. I am sure I will build off of that as my needs change. Great video!!

Hey Mikey! I liked it, a lot. Very informative for certain. The 4Runner sports a Genesis Dual battery system. With two group 31 Odyssey AGM batteries in one battery tray. One for starting and the other Aux. Your Redarc system sounds sweet. Cheers, Mate.

Thanks Michael! I am just starting out in all of this and have watched so many of not only your videos, but everyone else who puts one out. It has helped me immensely on how to do things.....as mentioned, don' try to invent the wheel. I now have a better understanding of what I want to do, but definitely will need an electrician to help with the correct fuses and such. Only thing now holding me back is money! lol

Great video! Awesome to see Kevin and Brad here 👍 I started out with an AGM and solenoid (and solar) and that served me well for many years. I've recently switched to DC-DC and lifepo4. Yes, it's more expensive but the ROI and capability are game changers.

I use dual xs3400 for starting 640 watts solar renogy dc to dc to 2 200ah amg batteries. And if you decide to weld with batteries make sure you have the correct stick rods . I learned the hard way.

I'm knee deep in my 80 series dual battery system build as we speak! I've seen Kevin doing his recently and now you guys. Great timing! I wish I had the budget or hookup for the Manager 30 and Redvision... However, I am super excited to build what I have. It is going to be very similar to Ron's behind the driver seat set up. And I will have shore power charging, solar controller, and dc/dc capabilities. I can't wait to see your custom console!!! And as a fellow 80 series owner, I NEED to see what you come up with for cup holders! Cheers Michael! OB member 25558

I've been wondering how the new jeep 4xe hybrid's electric system could be used for overlanding. You cant use the big battery as a power source but I believe the under hood battery is only used to power the accessory's (fans, gauges, lights) not as the starter battery so a lithium battery could be a good option. But I want to find out if the recharging from the motor/generator could be used to recharge aux. battery's after the main battery is full. Battle born has a new LiFePO4 (Safer chemistry, longer life span)100ah heated battery that can be used under the hood. Not cheap but very good quality.

Found this just in time (I think.) Getting ready to go Dual Battery in my 2500hd to run my accessories (Lights and some extra charging ports mostly) but MOST important is that I want to isolate my winch from the starting battery. I see lots of content about accessory systems on the secondary, and about putting the winch on the Starting battery, but I don't want to risk the starting battery. Does anyone have a recommendation?

My Chevy truck is wired to be able to charge a trailer battery. this has its own 40 amp fuse and only charges when the vehicle is running and shows 0 voltage when the vehicle is not running. Can I just connect a second battery to this post and roll with it. As long as the two batters have the same profile say AGM shouldn't it work properly.

I have a question regarding AGM batteries. From what I've read online everything says that they will not charge properly off the vehicles charging system and they will not last yet everybody seems to run them. Is this just internet fud or will I really ruin the Odyssey pc1500t battery I installed. I can't really afford a dual set up so I went with a "top of the line" start battery. I know the gentleman in the video emphasized that the life of the battery may be shortened. I guess I want to know just how short that is
@geographyinaction7814
@geographyinaction7814 Жыл бұрын
AGM was the only option for years, but you can only drain, or use up to 50% of the available power. Lithium Ion is much more money, but you can drain ton98-100%, it is lighter, better, lasts longer but can be 3x as much money-wise. People are using AGM because they want to save money, and they're used to it.

Hi Connie - it is the battery that starts the car and is used for the standard automotive functions. The 2nd battery is know as the Auxiliary or House battery, and is used to run your camping and other accessories so it doesn't run down your car starting battery.
