Based on one of your earlier wavemaker videos this is how I have my 125 gallon tank setup. I have my uniclife wavemaker on the top left and my 2 FX6 filter outtakes in the center spaced out pointing to the right to get that circulation going and it works wonders. It keeps the black diamond blasting sand I have in their clean and clear of left over food and poop.

I added a wave maker to help keep the top of the sand in my tank clean. Because it was too much current for my fancy goldfish, I have the wave maker only come on 3 times a day for 15 minutes each time, and that keeps my substrate clean. Thanks for your great suggestion about using wave makers and placement…I have learned so many great tips from you and always appreciate your videos.

Currently running one FX6 but looking to add a second FX6 onto the new tank. Just wondering if you still recommend the outlet placement as per this video or has anything changed in the last year that I should think about in terms of placement for dual canister filters? Also (while I remember) how much substrate would you recommend for a cichlid tank in terms of depth? Just trying to get the new home as comfortable for my guys as possible! Cheers from Australia :)

Thats a tough question. I've never had to deal with an overflow box, but just thinking about it seems like you'll have a challenge getting that circular water pattern. Regardless though, I'd still try different positions and angles until you find a sweet spot that keeps detritus moving so it can find its way into the overflow.

Hey kev quick question on the uniclife wavemaker. What settings do you use it on in your 210 tank? I have a 125 and it’s causing micro bubbles and seems a little strong pushing my sand around on the 2nd power level. Just wondering if you have any advice on position and angle along with power or wave settings? Thanks
@KaveManAquatics
@KaveManAquatics Жыл бұрын
my 210 is a tall boy, 29" so I keep mine at full power. It does pull some substrate from the other side but nothing to terrible. Try going down to the lowest power setting. If you have micro bubbles it may be too close to the surface, or crashing with another filter output.

You can’t really over filter. It doesn’t hurt the tank. But like you said, get a bigger filter now so it can fit on your new tank whenever you upgrade. Also, for the record. The FX6 is marketed as good for 400G. But that’s not accurate for every tank because each tank has its own unique bio-load. And I don’t have 3 per tank. I have 2 on my 210 and only 1 on my 150 😊

Hello Kev greetings from EU! I have a quick question: I'm new to the hobby and me and my girlfriend has chosen to get 3 pairs of guppies therefore we got a 54 liter tetra starter pack aquarium and today I have installed a wavemaker - sunsun jvp120 but it seems too powerful. So the question is if it's harmful to the fish? And can I somehow lower the flow because I can see that it is pushing the guppies quite fast. Your answer is greatly appreciated 🙂
@nicholast.m.519
@nicholast.m.519 2 жыл бұрын
That is way too much flow. If u didn’t know guppies can not constantly fight against strong currents because they will quickly get tired and this could lead to death. Another possibility is that they get sucked in and get ripped to shreds. Honestly with only 54 liters as long as your filter is pushing water that should be enough for 6 guppies.
@nicholast.m.519
@nicholast.m.519 2 жыл бұрын
Also that wave maker pushes 793 gallons per hour and your tank is 14 gallons. That is way too overpowered and unnecessary.

Your tank is too small for a wavemaker. Watch the video until the end, I mention that for your size tank an airstone would be better for good surface agitation and water movement.
