I am new to having fish. I didn’t know any of this information and we have already added fish to our tank 😬 we set it up and added the quick start. Then we put the fish bags in the water for about 45 minutes and added the fish. They seem to be happy and thriving. Are the fish going to die ?

I got a 10 gallon tank. I use a qtr tbsp of baking soda every 2 days until I get it up. I take my fish out during this process so I don't accidentally spike the ph with fish present. Currently going through bacteria bloom cuz I vacuumed to fast and got debris all in my tank. Dosing Prime and Stability every other day.

How would you go about lowering your pH, please?
@KaveManAquaticsКүн бұрын
You can lower PH by adding real drift wood, almond leaves, Acid buffers or using RODI water.

I have A 10 gallon tank, is this to much for this size tank? We I cut it on it blows the fish around and they stay on one side of the tank.
@KaveManAquaticsКүн бұрын
Yes it is. Go with an air stone for any tank under 30 gallons for good water movement.

Doing water change after water change is why you've had cloudy water for months. You're resetting the bacterial bloom with every water change. This video will be helpful - kzbin.info/www/bejne/amfJlHuspMqfoqs

Pellets for snails, no! They eat whats in the tank. Becareful adding snails to a freshwater tank. They can easily overpopulate and take over. This video is me adding them to a saltwater tank.

Hi! Just got two 75 gallon tanks for my red eared sliders (a tank for each of them), and about to set up two fx6 filters. What’s the best filter media for turtles? Same as what you recommend for your fish? CK matrix will work? Thank you.
@jgurdonКүн бұрын
Good practice to wash the sponges and filter media with your tank water to not kill the beneficial bacteria. I usually clean filter media when I’m doing water changes, just use the water coming out of the tank as the water source.
@KaveManAquaticsКүн бұрын
Yes thats good practice for beginners with very young and immature tanks. I have full details video about this. But this 30 second video is just me cleaning my mature established tank with additional filtration and why tank water is not needed and tap water is just fine.

You’ve been incredibly helpful! I’m new to all of this and currently have just one betta. I’m moving it from a 3-gallon tank to a 5-gallon tank. I’ve been using Prime and Stability in the new, empty tank for two days, and the water is already testing fine. If I transfer my betta into the new tank before the full 7 days, should I continue adding Stability and Prime? Thank you!

Newbie here! Had no idea about cycling or the bacterial bloom. Set up my tank, let it run for a couple days, added my betta. Maybe fed it a little more than recommended -NoT by much! By the following afternoon, today, the cloudiness appeared along with a foul smell. Panic mode. Some food particles in the gravel that I will vacuum up. Should I rehome the fish temporarily while it cycles? Or will it be safe? Thanks for all your help!

Hey kev. Can I make a refugium under my 125 gallon African cichlid tank using a 40gallon breeder? Is it as simple as adding a pump in and out ? I don’t have a sump. I run 2 FX-4s
@KaveManAquatics2 күн бұрын
It is that simple. Pump water into a chamber for your refugium, then back out to your tank. You'll need a light on it though to fuel your refugium 😁💪

I'm going to challenge your point that "biological filtration doesn't give crystal clear water" I think this is somewhat misleading. You can absolutely have crystal clear tanks with minimal or no mechanical filtration. Cloudy water is mostly due to overabundance of heterotrophic bacteria and other microorganisms in the water column (that is to say, they're outcompeting the nitrifying bacteria). This is why overfeeding clouds water, it causes a bacterial bloom. This is why wavemaker is also good, it aids the autotrophic bacteria by providing oxygen and carbon dioxide. Best way to get crystal clear water for me is a mature canister filter filled with good biomedia. I don't need polyfill myself.
@jrjones7142 күн бұрын
Just remember if you have an FX filter you can drain down to just above the intake IF you don't have an ATO and/or additional HOB filter, such as for water polishing. Going below your ATO bottom level, the fill line, you will cause the ATO to turn on and just keep going until you possibly drain your reservoir and kill the pump, or you can unplug your ATO and then drain down to the top of your intake. HOBs have a minimum fill line and if you go below that you will be running your HOB dry and potentially ruin it, so again just unplug it before you start your draining process.-Lady Tank Boss

I’m watching this very informative video again because I had to add my adult mystery snail (he’s HUGE & poops a lot) in my 10G with 6 Pygmy Cories temporarily because I needed to add meds to the tank he was in. It caused my cycle in the 10 gallon to CRASH when it’s been running smoothly for 8 months. 6 tiny fish don’t produce much waste so my snails poop overwhelmed the system (thank god I tested water!). I freaked out & did a water change then decided to go the prime & stability route instead of removing more water 2 days later then dealing w/ the issue again. Levels are low & snail/fish are doing well still (🤞)
