Problem with dual citizenship is the taxation of resident citizens of the Philippines which will equate to someone who is a dual citizen retiring permanently in the Philippines. Resident citizens of the Philippines are taxed by the BIR on worldwide income ( from within and from without the Philippines), this worldwide income includes Australian dividend/interest/passive income. There is a tax treaty but it is only good if the tax rate on both countries are the same. If the tax rate is the same then there is no residual tax liability to the Philippines. If the Philippines tax rate is higher, then the difference will your tax liability to the Philippines. Double taxation is prevented by the treaty, but not the resulting residual taxation (after applying the double taxation treaty) wherein the Philippines has a higher rate than Australia or U.S.

PHP Passport renewal is a bit of a pain, particularly Personal Appearance. Living in far North of Australia, I need to travel to Canberra or Sydney for Passport Renewal. It is quite a financial stress to bring the whole family, unless you plan to holiday to those places. Australian Passport renewal use post office for personal appearance, which is easy and practical.

I understand you can be a dual citizen without necessarily applying for a Philippine passport.
