Los Angeles Mexican Consulate will not allow you pass the front gate if you do not select "Registro Civil" for your appointment. The office is back in time 1980's. The fee is $192.00 for 10 years. You have to make an appointment to have your documents reviewed. You cannot walk in the building if you do not have an appointment.

Is it better to get my passport in Mexico or will it be the same getting it at a Mexican Consulate? I think i read that the one they offer at the Consulate is a different version. Thanks in advance ☺️

Hi! I'm having trouble getting my passport because my birth certificate has my paternal and maternal surnames, and I grew up in the US using only my paternal surname so my IDs don't match. The Mexican consulate told me to have my previous college make up a letter for me with my full name matching my BC, but my school refuses to do that saying they can only put the name that I registered with. I also have an option of getting a letter of the municipality, but I am unsure if my family members in Mexico would help me by being witnesses because we are not close. Does anyone know what I can do? There must be a way to get around this, but I'm feeling a little hopeless at the moment.

Hi Jennifer! I don't mind brainstorming with you. If you have a US driver's license, you can try and get that amended to match your Mexican birth Certificate name(s), it may be the least burdensome route; depending on which state issued it. Or [if possible] go down to Mexico and acquire a Mexican Driver's License with your BC's name(s); and/or acquire an INE id card. One of those 3 government-issued photo ID with signatures should be sufficient enough for you to acquire your Mexican passport with. Don't give up! I hope that helps!

Hi, I want to claim Mexican citizenship by descent. My mom and maternal grandparents were born there. However, my father was born in the US and I’ve been estranged from him and my paternal side of my family. Besides his name being my US birth certificate. Would it be issue if I don’t provide any documentation from him? Or does it not matter because I’m claiming Mexican citizenship though my mother’s side?
@MixedinMexico
@MixedinMexico Жыл бұрын
Hi @giannachacon1846 great question! Your best option may be to complete the process of registering your birth at a Registro Civil Office here in Mexico; as they can have a lot more flexibility in what they can allow for. [Consulates abroad will require permission from your Dad] As long as you bring all the correct/proper documentation from your mom's side, you should be just fine here! I hope that helps! Here's a video on Registering Your Birth, if you need to reference it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqaaeotppJySb6c

The exact names of your parents only matter when registering your birth. If you already have a Mexican birth certificate and are simply going in to get your Mexican passport now, all that matters [in addition to having all the required documentation] is that your names on all your supporting IDs match the name on your Mexican birth certificate exactly and if there are any discrepancies, you will either need to get them corrected; or if the "discrepancy" is a marital name change, simply bring in an official copy of your marriage license with you to the appointment, and that should be sufficient. I hope that helps!

Hello, you have two forms for OP5 I’m in the states and I’ll be going to a Mexican consulate. I have my medical birth certificate though my parents who are mexican and I happen to be born in the states. I don’t have any form of mexican Identification, can I use my American drivers license? It’s the only ID I have that had my maiden name which is what’s on my American birth certificate and now my mexican birth certificate. Also can I get both my Mexican passport and my INE during the same time of my appointment at the Mexican consulate?
@MixedinMexico
@MixedinMexico Жыл бұрын
Hi Rosa. I placed 2 OP5 forms in the description portion of the video as an example of what the forms should generally look like. If you desire to be over-prepared, I would fill out and bring in both; if your consulate's webpage doesn't have their specified/preferred OP5 form on it's website. As long as you have your Mexican birth certificate to prove you are Mexican, your supplementary ID at the Consulate can be any U.S. government-issued form of identification with a photo and signature, as long as the names match exactly to your Mexican birth certificate; or you have official proof for the discrepancy [i.e. an official copy of your marriage license, etc.] Generally speaking, it is not usually possible to get both your INE and passport on the same appointment as they are handled by different offices at the Consulate and require different appointment slots. I hope that helps!

Hello! What about trying to obtain a dual citizenship through marriage? My husband is currently residing in Mexico and we got married in Mexico but I currently live in the states but I visit often. We also have a daughter together that I would also like to get dual citizenship for.
@MixedinMexico
@MixedinMexico 3 ай бұрын
Hi @Clarissaaguero Your daughter qualifies for automatic Mexican Citizenship through decent by a Mexico-born parent. All you need to do is take her to your local Registro Civil office in Mexico on your next trip down with the proper paperwork & documentation [or you could make a Registro Civil appointment at your local/preferred Mexican Consulate office in the U.S. with the same paperwork; her Father will have to present for the appointment at the Consulate though]. As for Citizenship through marriage, it is not yet a thing. (trust me though, if it was, I'd be first in line to get it 😂) Being married to a Mexican does, however, give you a faster route to Residency and a quicker path to take the Mexican Citizenship Exam to become Naturalized. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help! 😊

Hi @yomi3099 I have not yet made a video on the benefits of dual citizenship; but it is definitely on the list of videos to come. Hi @juliettacarreno1966 Typically payment is either check or money order if the office doesn't take credit/debit card payments. Rarely do they accept cash, due to the corruption potential. I would just check with your particular office, however, to be certain. If you don't have any other proof of ID besides your birth certificate, I would recommend getting a driver's license, matricular ID, or use another form of ID you may already possess [i.e. work ID or school ID] with the same name as your Birth Certificate. I hope that helps!

@MixedinMexico
@MixedinMexico Жыл бұрын
Hi Brycen. If you have since gotten married and changed your name from the one on your birth certificate, you would simply need to bring in an official copy of your marriage license to your appointment to prove the name discrepancy. If your appointment is in Mexico, however, you will need to have it apostilled and translated into Spanish prior to the appointment. Hopefully that helps!

Hi @detoxx03 You may qualify for an expedited route to permanent residency and subsequently citizenship through your Mexican Grandparent(s); but you would still have to take a Mexican Citizenship exam through that route. I have heard of rare instances of individuals getting granted their automatic citizenship through their Mexican grandparents, but that is quite rare and circumstantial. You will usually have the freedom to choose what your name will reflect on your birth certificate when you register your birth. It is typically whatever your name is on your supporting documents, however. My husband (who was born in the US) chose to keep only his one last name on his Mexican Birth Certificate when he registered his birth in Mexico. [His mother's maiden name was not added.] I hope that helps!

@MixedinMexico
@MixedinMexico Жыл бұрын
It depends on which name you want to amend; you could go to a Registro Civil office in Mexico [or at a Consulate] to change the name on your Acto or contact your state (usually the department of health for each state) to change the name on your US birth certificate. But if you have an official Mexican ID that matches the name on your Acto, I would use that instead. It could save you time and stress. Hopefully that helps!

@blackcode9174 I'm referring to the spelling of both of the parents' names listed on the birth certificate EXACTLY to the spelling of both of the parents' names on their marriage certificate as well the spelling of their names on their individual identifications.
