Wonderful video and very helpful. I serviced my Dual CS-515 and it was very easy while you guided me and it saved $175.00 and an 8-10 week wait that a shop wanted. All I need now is a new stylist and I can play the albums I got from my brothers estate plus my own. Thanks again.

Great servicing video!! Just had mine serviced for auto-return not fully returning. Arm would return half-way then drop mid-record and play again (undesired continuous play feature?). The service shop did good work but I probably could have serviced it myself to avoid some of the minor cosmetic defects it came back with, and to ensure cleaning of old gunk and new oil was added. Am surprised how the original belt and pitch control are still in great shape after 38 years. Ordered a new belt as stock in case needed in the future. This isn't the best of the DUAL budget brand, but incredible value -- probably $500++ to replace with similar quality today IMO. I was debating upgrading with new but I think this remains a keeper. Wish the case was more attractive.

Hello Turntable Guy, I was very much educated by this video as I needed to service and make this TT back to operational condition. But I have a need to know what that 'pimple'? thing you cleaned and it is mounted on a very small stud/pin and makes contact with the black arm that is engaged in the cam track under the sub plate. My 'pimple' is disintegrated and need to either make one or get one. I am a Toolmaker but I don't know what it looks like to even make it. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks so very much, Butch in Denver CO.

Thanks for this helpful video. I am working on a 530 and this helped me figure out how to replace the steuerpimpel and oil the motor and bearing. The automatic function is a nightmare though... it's stuck in a loop and won't turn off :/ I'm trying to figure out a way to just disable the auto functions, any ideas on a simple way to do that before I start tearing things out?

Look for sticky grease on the auto mechanism and clean and re-lubricate it.

Good service. Why not check cartridge alignment as well ?
@TurntableGuy4 жыл бұрын
That's the factory cartridge, so no need. I'll be doing a video on that separately.

Hello, my turntable stopped spinning while playing. It's not the belt... so motor or electronic problem. Do you have an idea for the repair? (I'm french...)

I have a dual ulm but the cartridge cannot be changed with standard two screws cartridge only one screw. Anyway, I messed it up trying to fix it.

You can buy an adapter for that headshell that accepts a standard 1/2" mount cartridge.

I have a Dual 505-2 that about one time in ten, doesn't stop at the end of the record. Is there a tweak for that? Also, on some Dual forums, they say to use chainsaw bar oil in the main bearing. The oil is sticky, and will stay on the sides of the bearing, and help damp out rumble and noise. Thoughts?
@TurntableGuy8 ай бұрын
Watch my videos on the 505-2. The chainsaw oil is for Dual 10 & 12 series tables.

When reassembling, there's a gap of space underneath each of the 3 main mounting screw washers and the metal base. The washers sit flat against the plastic pillars they screw into, but those aren't flush with the metal base, so they don't actually hold the base down. I can essentially jiggle the metal base up and down a bit since there's no contact between the washers and the metal base. Is this normal?

Yes, there is a gap

Hey, I have a question about the pitch control. It looks like there is a glass where there should be a light bulb or strobe, but you use a external strobe light. Should there be a strobe inside the glass cutout? Thanks
@TurntableGuy3 жыл бұрын
There should be one or two green LEDs in there to illuminate the strobe marks on the bottom of the platter, which then gets reflected onto the mirror.

Mine produces very faint output, with receiver volume on high it is very quiet, but the music can be heard
@TurntableGuy3 жыл бұрын
Are you certain your turntable is plugged into a 'PHONO' input on your receiver? Your receiver needs a phono preamp in order to hear the sounds from the cartridge.
@yusefmessallam3 жыл бұрын
@@TurntableGuy yes, I am. Thanks to your video, have disassembled the unit, and will solder new rca cable leads onto the main board, as originals had chipping plastic on the plug overmolding. Could a bad needle be the culprit of the weak sound? Suppose it could also be something wrong with the preamp circuit on receiver, but tried on another receiver same problem, so odds are its the record player.
