this was exactly what I was looking for. My Technics SL1500MK2 is misbehaving, and it's Christmas time for those records!

Thanks so much. This video let me narrow down my issue with no audio outputting. Cartridge was fine, - channels were fine, but the + channels had no continuance to the RCA jacks. There was continuance on the main PCB from the tone arm wires in to the RCA wires off that board, but not to the RCA jacks. Turned out to be a connector on a small second PCB right before the RCA out had come loose. Reseated it, and now I have a working record player again. This was on an AT-120LP-USB.

Welcome back. Happy New Year. I was busy over the break. Did a Sony PS-X50, Luxman PX-101 Linear a Set of CV AT-12's and a Dual 1226. Lots of cool gear popped up after Christmas.

I've got quite a few lined up, but a bunch of no-shows. Very annoying.

Timely for me also. I sold a SL1900 that I bought new in 1977, to a buyer in Seattle. FedEx dropped the box, which broke the composite base plate in multiple places. I ended up only finding a new baseplate in Italy! Shipping was more than the part. I put the player back together and all the mechanicals work perfectly, but no sound at all. I can here the faint music at the stylus, but nothing through the RCA leads. I will dig out the multimeter and test thanks to you; hopefully finding the issue so I can list it for sale. Thank You!

Excellent video, the sony ps lx5 and similar models have the auto muting circuit.

Great Video, a common situation I never seen covered or explaiined! what is the setting on the Multimeter for Continuity - what are the symbols?
@TurntableGuy11 ай бұрын
Continuity should have some kind of audio symbol - mine has a little speaker symbol to indicate it makes a sound.

How timely. You won't believe it. I was trouble shooting my Technics SL1700 just this afternoon. I knew it was the audio cables and I removed the bottom/top and tested the cables. The right channel would cut out every once in a while. I cut off some tie wraps that I had holding the ground wire and power wire all together. When top was off I opened the harness up where cable entered the TT. And you know what happened...all tested OK!! I had a low impedance replacement audio cable ready to go. So....I decided to put it all back together and will see what happens in the next week using it without putting the tie wraps on as just maybe the pressure point caused the intermittent loss of a channel. Or the harness?? And after all this I maybe should have just changed the cables!! Stay tuned, I will update.

Great video. In the end you mention that some Dual models have a mute switch. I'm wonder if the Dual 505-2 have this? Since after a long rest I have started it up again and encountered a sound issue. From left chanel the sound is much lower than from the right. The measurement on the cartridge, Ortofon OM 10, shows almost the same for left, 676 ohm, and right channel, 679 ohm. When I switch the cables, left to right, on the amplifier, the low sound channel follows to the right. speaker. I'm out of ideas about this issue. Can you give any suggestions?

No mute switch in 505. Check cables and try a different cart.

I check the collar & my RCA cables Since I know my cart is good. I did this and realized my Right Channel Positive has no continuity . So now that I’m aware. How can I fix not having sound on my right channel? ??? Do I open up and check that red wire at the connection. ? Or do I need to place the RCA cables to the board ? Thank you !!! I’m glad I at least know what is wrong
