I don't really look at it like a bug. The DFE is basically a hack and the developer needed to make it how they made it so as to work with everything. Someday, perhaps Ricoh will just implement the same type of things to give us better image quality.

Thanks for putting this together Jordan. Yesterday I had a client reject a tour due to poor quality and color rendering that was shot Jpeg HDR on the Theta Z1. So I've spent the entire morning figuring out how to produce a better product and your video has been super helpful since much of this is not intuitive.

pretty sure its the same settings, they just numbered the actual number of exposures you are taking. I think they just updated the camera software to look like that

The more I use the dual fisheye plugin/Z1 the more frustrated I get with this insane workflow. I tried renaming the files in the finder prior to import and the stitcher app couldn't handle it. I imported through Lightroom and the stitcher app couldn't handle it. This video has been extremely helpful in "debugging" my issues. Basically you have to process these HDR files EXACTLY how you outline here Jordan. This is compounded by the fact that the image quality is so mediocre on this relatively expensive 360 camera that you really need to shoot the raw HDR files to get the best out of it. I'll keep working on it because I think it's still probably faster than using a DSLR+fisheye workflow.

Once you build some muscle memory, it actually goes pretty quick. However, I am now only using DFE on nicer homes and commercial projects. For the other homes I am just using the files that are generated through the Zillow app. Significantly lower quality, but not horrible.

I believe it's not possible to see a preview on your phone when you use DF Plug In, though I may be wrong. I recently used with the HDR-DNG and 2 of 10 panos had serious banding. Someone on Facebook said it was because of shutter/ light frequency issues but I've bracketed thousands of regular photos and not had this issue. Worrying part is that I didn't see till i uploaded to computer later. Look forward to more videos.

Make sure you have the latest version of DFE. I know that they made an app for Android.

@@JRDNPWRS Thanks for your reply. I emailed the creator regarding the wifi app he offers in conjunction with DFP, and he confirmed nothing gives you a smartphone preview when using DFP. I have latest updates. On closer inspection I noticed 7 of 10 were affected; hope you don't experience. Hope this helps.

A really helpful and useful video Jordan, thanks very much. Following everything on the fb group for the Z1 it was beginning to sound like magic as you said. I could not get my hand around it at all but this has really helped the light bulb moment. I think the thing that has come across for me the most is that the HDR are stacked in camera and not in Lr or Ps. Also very helpful to see you set up your Z1 for shooting as well. Thanks very much. Now I just need to install the plug in and give it a try!

I've been trying to find out why it doesn't work for me when I am trying to export w the Ricoh stitcher, it give me an message similar at the one you got but it say: A DNG file is required for the Export Location of the JPEG/Tiff file. When you click - Edit in "Ricoh Theta STITCHER" - I don't seem to have this option. I have to manually export the files into the stitcher and then re-import the stitched files back into Lightroom. Any help would be appreciated

Nice Video. Could you please exlpain how you dealt with GPS data for your tour as AFAIK, the GPS infos are not supported so far by the Dual Fisheye Plugin. I read that only using the (paying) app Dual Fisheye Plugin Remote allows injecting the GPS metadata in the HDR files. Maybe you used this app ? Or would you have any other tip to share regarding how to have the GPS datas being correctly added in the files ?

Thanks for making this. It's very timely. I spent a ton of time yesterday looking for a different stitching option because I could not get the Dual Fisheye HDR to load into the Ricoh stitcher. By the way, I was having this problem on a PC so it's not just a problem on a Mac. Thank you for the tip to rename to a hyphen. As far as patching the nadir is concerned, doesn't Cloudpano have a nadir patching feature? I have not checked this yet but if it does that would save you some time on real estate tours.

PSA: The dual fisheye workflow just got MUCH smoother. Update the DF plugin and the Ricoh LR stitcher plugin. Now the stitcher works without having to rename anything! I was even importing the HDR DNG's with Lightroom rather than going through the import app. It's not perfect-when I tried re-naming the files on import, it failed to open in the stitcher app. Baby steps! The auto white balance is pretty good. If you want to dial it in more you could certainly use a card or select a neutral source in the image itself.

I have a question about the Z1 internal camera presets before you use the dualfisheye plugin. For instance during an overcast day or sunny day what iso, aperature and shutter speed settings do you typically use for real estate? Do they stay the same for the entire tour? Honestly - don't think about settings. This is pretty much full-auto. It is a raw file, essentially.

Did you know that you can create a collection and then re-order them all in the collection by dragging and dropping. Then I select all and press F2 (while in the Library module) and rename them all at once. That way, when they export, they are in the correct order. Just FYI. :)

Camera makes all 3,7,5,9 photos, but when I connect it to the computer it shows only 1 HDR.DNG file. Firmware is updated.

I ran through a lot of tutorials on the DFP now and I still get remarkably high noise (in my opinion way too much) in my shots - even with multiple light sources in the venue and shooting HDR-DNG 9... Don't know what to do else... Any hints or tipps?

Thanks for posting! The re-name was eluding me. That said, I just don't see how to make CloudPano tours profitable for standard real estate shoots with this amount of work involved. In Mpls a Matterport will run you $135 to $150 (up to 3000 SF) and it's way nicer than CloudPano (with some tradeoffs). Given this I can't see going higher than $75 on these (up to 3000 SF) and at that price the workflow needs to be as fast as possible. Not sure agents would pay more for the "enhanced image" CloudPano tour you get with the dual fish eye. They likely would not notice any difference at all. Still, great to see how this all works and thanks again for posting!

Dylan Garrison all in the marketing. My base price for these is $75 for up to 2000 sqft. I am just providing the options available. It is possibly a better option for commercial clients where you can sell at a higher price point.

@@MZK485 There isn't a way to control the camera settings with the Matterport app. You just have to settle for the image as-is. However, the image isn't really all that bad. It serves its purpose.

Hi there. Really helpful stuff but I'm getting an issue covering the tripod in the way you outline. This is the second time I've seen this method , but I'm struggling with it. I'm familiar with all the tools you use, but have never worked in the 3D environment before, so this seems to be the only difference, yet as soon as I try *any* of the tools to cover the tripod (content aware fill, healing brush, clone stamp, patch) the repaired area comes up really dark. All settings appear to be as normal and work fine in the normal 2D environment. Any guesses as to what might be happening?

Sorry I am not sure on how to troubleshoot this issue, however, there is another way to do this that Rich Baum covered. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6rUiqd5iMlnpbc . You can create a photoshop action out of this to make the process faster as well.

It is a bug that ps has when working with 16 bits images. Either convert your image to 32bits prior to working in 3d, or do it with your jpeg just before uploading. Hope it helps!

Hi, I'm on a Mac laptop and have edited my photos in Lightroom. I have also renamed the files, as you instructed in the video. When I right-click on the image within Lightroom and select "Edit In", then select the Ricoh Theta Stitcher app, a dialog box appears asking me to "Select DNG file" and it lists the pink HDR.DNG files from the folder I made on my desktop. This extra step doesn't happen in your video. It also opened the Ricoh Theta Stitcher v2.20.0 app, within which I cannot click anything, and it created within Lightroom the same image (unstitched, spread in two circles) with the extension HDR-Edit.jpg ...I am not seeing a stitched, flattened out 360 image. Any advice on what to do to get to the next step? I will also be uploading these to CloudPano.

You can't use the plugin with the app. You need to install the plugin on the Theta and control it exclusively with the Theta as I outlined at the beginning of this video. If you have an Android phone, there is a DFE plugin app, but I can't help you with that.

You don't have or need exposure settings for DFE. It figures it out for you.

@@bobsigny That is just the amount of brackets that you want to shoot. +/-2 would be 5 total exposures. You would need to be in the bracketing mode in order to be able to select that. All I can suggest is to follow the video to a "T".

I am wondering if I should go back one version. For others reading this, another way of getting a stitch is to open the HDR.DNG in Adobe Camera Raw, edit, then save as a TIFF and open that in PTGUi which has its own template for the Z1

PS 3D edit question - I'm on a PC so maybe this is different on Mac. When I send to PS and enter 3D to remove tripod I get blotchy results. After researching everything I found was that PS only accepts 8 bit images for editing in 3D. If I convert to 8 bit I get normal results but I don't want to drop down in quality. I then tried Affinty and found it scary similar to PS and the 3D editing is great. I'm a die hard LR and PS user so having to switch to another program just for tripod removal is frustrating but necessary. How do you not have the same problem with PS when editing in 3D to remove tripod? Really nice video, very helpful.

It really doesn't matter. It's the last step before final export so doing it in 16-bit is unnecessary.

I've come to realize that the only thing DFE is good for is noise control. I can easily make a single AV file look just as good, but lots more noise. Views outside the window still look terrible with DFE.

@@JRDNPWRS OK, after more testing, I have found that doing manual bracketing through the app is giving me the cleanest image, plus the nicest looking HDR image. More time in post, and on location, but the quality improvement is worth it to me and for my clients. Also, with a room with no windows, I find that a single DNG file works great.

Looks like batch export is now supported in the update to the LR plugin that was posted on Ricoh’s website. And there are two options in batch: one-by-one or export all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3e9fpigmMeVptE

Isn’t it way more annoying to press the release button on the camera and then quickly hide within 10 seconds, then just use the app to release remotely in hdr mode. You’d still have to merge the single exposures to an hdr but that’s just a click of the mouse instead of running away from the camera every photo,no?

Maybe, but there is no app for iOS with DFE and you simply cannot get the same quality of image with the Ricoh's native HDR.

@@JRDNPWRS ah ok.thanks man. I‘m gonna install it today. Bought the z1 a month ago and been fiddling around with it since. The plugin seems amazing. I‘ve seen they have an android app for it but iOS isn’t gonna be there unless ricoh decides to implement it into their app. Thanks again
