Back in the olden days a BBSHD and Bafang BBS02 mid drive were all the rage...

I've owned all 3 types. *Mid-drive, *Geared hubs and *Direct Drive. Mid-drives have more torque. For their size. And the torque values can be further enhanced by changing the rear sproket/gears. Has regen braking. The downside is your chain wears out quicker and you need a stronger chain. Geared hubs have a lot of low end torque. But are noisy. Cannot do super high speeds owning to the limitations of the technology. (Reduction gearing) And the way they try to reduce noise is by using nylon gears which fails. Also most of them tend to be powered by a square wave signal which damages the gears when operating at high speeds over time. Gearless direct drive motors are quieter, more efficient. Has regen and can achieve high speeds easily. Works best with sinewave control signal Resistance to heating due to their large mass. But, Have low bottom end torque compaired to other technologies controller algorithm needs to put in my power at start up to have high torque at low speeds. They tend to be heavy. I currently have a direct drive motor on my bike. Changed from geared hub. Although heavier than geared hub, more efficient and can handle higher speeds better.

I have a gear drive and direct drive. Gear drives are strong. Direct drive is awesome. Glad we got them all. I going to build a mid drive one day.

What a neat comparison. Well done!!

Gearless hub motors are overall better and more reliable than both imo. With geared hub, you have to regrease the motor every couple thousand miles and potentially deal with stripped gears down the line. This happened to my bike recently and it was a huge pain to replace the gears.

That aniioki is cool, but it looks like its too far gone from a bicycle to get plain "bike" parts for it. Like those massive rotors, i wish i had them, but where do you even get 300mm rotors? And the rear shocks, they dont look "off the shelf" so where do you get them? My ebike may be way slower, but at least i can get parts.

The $26 front and rear rotors on their website.

They do sell the parts on their website but if you wanted to use more traditional rotor sizes, you can swap out the 300mm or 220mm rotors for 203mm rotors for example which are common
@Timbodacious3 ай бұрын
@@omozeoyarebu4444 this is the way. and you can swap out the rear shocks for something better like air shocks.
@brentcollins97273 ай бұрын
@@omozeoyarebu4444 , why would you do that to a front motored wheel? It needs all that braking power.

For the aniioki dual motor, can you upgrade the rear motor with the same battery /controller and see a difference? & do you have any mod plans with it?

I have a super73, an Eroy ARC Hero which has a 5kw hub motor, and an mx5. While the power from the mx5 is addicting and almost psychotic on Hyper mode, there is something about the absolute STEALTH and SILENCE on the 5kw hub motor that i enjoy so so much. Yes, the initial torque is lacking in the 5kw motor, but after a second it races up to 50mph pretty quickly with my lowly Kelly controller that does 125 boosted amps for 1 minute and then 70 amps continuous. And doing so in compete silence, if you have street tires, it's literally zero sound. If there was some technological improvements on making the ultra powerful emoto middrive style bikes quieter I'd be loving them more.

A middrive motor with belt drive is significantly quieter than a chain drive. You also get the BONUS of longer life with LESS maintenance.

Did you set slow start to 3 on the Aniioki in your test? If not, you should do that and compare with Mantis X

If u have dual hub vs a mid drive. Same voltage and weight. Which one would accelerate the fastest

How does mid drive ebike called?

I have a question for anybody that can answer it. As much fun as bikes are on the ground, they are infinitely more exiting when launched into the air. So my question is simply: Can hub motors, either DD or geared, handle grabbing air on a semi regular basis? My guess is definitely not, but in this occasion, it would be nice to be wrong. One more question. In the geared hubs, is it usually a planetery gear set that is used? Again, I'm just guessing here, so please let me know if you know....

do another comparison, this time, pedal hard and use the throttle on dual motor, maybe this will be faster than the mantis. Pedaling gives extra power than just sitting there
@JordanMarley3 ай бұрын
It won’t pedal assist doesn’t give you more speed just helps battery life and slight exercise lmao
@BeautyBeastRC2 ай бұрын
@@JordanMarley This is so wrong. There is a reason people go faster than throttle top speed when they pedal with max pedal assist.

1 is 3kw nominal and 52v (not 60v) believe it or not 52v up to 60v is a big difference. But yes, this is not a good comparison which he said it's not fair, but he is comparing the benefits of having dual motor vs mid drive.
