The quad tracking definitely makes the guitars more of a wall of sound. The only thing with quad tracking is that you had better play very consistently so as not to end up with a wall of mush. Great video

Yeah so true. A good test to see how tight you can play. Depending on the riff and style sometimes a little bit sloppy works. Haha.

Certainly not "the only thing" with quad. We've basically spent decades going from the 90's dense vacuum cleaner distortion to something much brutal, roaring and yet with much more clarity. All quad does to me is take it a step back again. Don't be afraid to use quite different tones left and right.

Personally, I'm not big on straight-up quad rhythm tracks, but I do like using a bit of that just for a specific part of the riff that I want to accentuate or for a subtle layer of harmony/ad libs...something the ears may not catch on the first listen because it's low in the mix, but reveals itself when you listen to it more. I ADORE little parts like that.

I honestly will either use 6 or 8 tracks and pan from 100, 65, 45, 20. Yes the prerequisite of "you have to play clean and not mess up" is self evident but I find that it creates a full sound and already sounds well mixed.

I used to quad track, then I turned 40. Too lazy these days. I do however quad track sometimes, often using a different guitar. For example, on my previous release I wanted the choruses to punch harder, double tracked with the Strandberg and then layered my Jazzmaster Baritone on them. Nice video bro! You are getting really good at this! Cheers

Nice! Although I didnt like how unclear it sounded with the 45% pan guitars, maybe with the levels at -16 it would be better to my ears. I love leaving room for the bass guitar to shine through, thats a different beast tho. Nowadays I double track bass guitars so I can do some panning and leave guitars at 2 takes hard left and right. Sounds super tight and heavy.

Interesting on double tracking the bass. Haven't tried that. How do you pan the basses?
@Caynug
@Caynug Жыл бұрын
@@GaryHiebner the second bass is with eques out lows (not all but mostly) and with an imager 100% wet panned to both sides by about 50%-90%. The sound is mostly dirty clean. Main bass can be centred and fat as fk in the middle. I also like a 10% chorus on that fat bass for even more width to the double track. Ofcourse chorus only hits at 300hz and above on that fat bass track.

thanks for the tips!!! try quad tracking but elastique pitch down 1 whole octave a set of 2 of the tracks. just change the EQ slighly on the amp sims. that what they did for Holly Roller by Spirit Box using Nolly Amp sim only lol I have not done much quad tracking, I need to be able to play tighter still, been slacking on guitar the last few months cuz learning DAW and all these kontakt libraries.

The most natural and efficient way to create more width is just using two different pick material for each take. Instant 2 guitarist sound , instead of 1 guitarist recorded twice.

Have you ever found yourself having issues with dialing in tones on Studio One? You can’t link plugins so you have to dial it in mono then guess what it will sound like when you get to panning them back where they were… such a work flow killer

I usually go for quad tracking, but I'm currently working on some symphonic black metal, and quad was a nightmare to mix with the synths and orchestra. Dual track was the way to go, especially since I hard pan the guitars to leave room in the center for the rest. Just curious, how good is Clairvoyant in comparison to Amplitube 5 ?
@GaryHiebner
@GaryHiebner 11 ай бұрын
Yeah Clairvoyant is very good. Especially for some Hi Gain Metal Tones. Personally I think Amplitube is better at clean and more overdriven rock tones.

@@GaryHiebner Thanks for your answer ! Yeah, I ended up trying (and ultimately buying) Clairvoyant. It’s indeed very good for Hi gain tones, much more modern and defined, with less hi-end fuzz. Like you say, I still use Amplitube for cleans with effects, but it can’t compete with Clairvoyant for hi-gain. I also really like the simplicity of the plugin, no 54236 amps to chose from, it’s actually refreshing.

@@diegonudelmanmusic5615you want the best high gain tones, go for Neural DSP. They have a Gojira amp model and a Soldano amp model which are incredible. I own a Fractal Audio processor and while it offers more options in terms of effects and amps, I still find myself going back to the Neural DSP plugins now and then
