He was an absolute beast of a musician. When he went to Muscle Shoals he basically camped out in the parking lot of the studio and worked his way into their business. My ex brother in law knew him and Greg. His parents saw Duane just seconds before he was killed. They waved at him and he waved back before going around a bend in the road. They didn't know he had wrecked until the next day. Everytime my brother in law told that story he would always say what a great guy and how much he missed him.

@nancyashmore8042 God bless you, Nancy. I turned my son onto my music too. He's 40 now, and he still loves our era of music. It was the best. Living in New Orleans, I was fortunate to see so many great bands. We had The Warehouse. It was in the warehouse district and one of the big warehouses was turned into a place to hear great music. You could probably find it on the internet because it was well known. Weren't we blessed to have witnessed some of the greatest rock legends in person. Some kids I talk to wish they would have grown up during the time we did. We had a lot of fun. So good talking to you. Stay well and safe too.

It was getting dark and my two boys and I were able to pay respects, then went to Duane's and then Berry's crash sites, then The Big House, but it was closed. We jammed some Midnight Rider then headed east to August.....RIP to them.

I don't have a single favorite, but if forced to rank all-time guitarists, I'd put Duane Allman right behind Hendrix. And his playing transcended "Southern Rock" and entered new territory for the electric guitar. "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" off Live At The Fillmore is the greatest rock instrumental of them all!

Was recruited by the University of Tennessee and took a college visit with a state champion swimmer from my high school.. My classmate told me that the swimmers had tickets for a concert that night and we were invited to join them. This was winter of 1970-71 and the headliner was B.J.Thomas and the backup band was the Allman Brothers. B.J. had a top 40 hit in "Raindrops keep falling on my Head" so I was familiar with him but had never heard of the Allman Brothers. The concert was in the basketball arena and we had first row seats. The Allman Brothers were literally ten feet away without anyone in front of us. They were incredible and I was amazed. After the set I got a elbow in the ribs and told we were walking out on Thomas. B.J. came out and starting singing his hit Raindrops and I got into the song when one swimmer walked past me and then another.until I was the last one sitting. As I got up I made eye contact with him and I could tell he was puzzled that the front row was walking out on him. The expression in his eyes I still remember as much as the amazing performance of Dwayne and the other members of the band.

He was a beautiful, intelligent and talented man. I too was devastated and couldn't believe that he was already gone. Their career as excellent musicians was just starting to take off. The band was Duane's idea.after signing with a recording company in California. The execs were pressuring them to do an album with a lot of psychedelic sound as that was the going trend at the time. They couldn't get into it, so it wasn't going too well. Since they signed a contract the band left from California, but left Gregg behind to prevent a lawsuit. Duane went directly to Muscle Shoals to learn about recording music and to test the waters in playing with others and playing with other styles and individual sounds unique to various artists He became very versatile. A year or two later he called his bay' bro back home to form a band he was very excited about. No they weren't the same without Duane and they would never be the same. but so very close the last few years that they were together. Gregg persevered in bringing the band back to its original format which was blues rock and jazz fusion. Here I give all thanks to Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes for capturing the spirit of Duane and the vision he had for this band. Greg finally free from his addictions brought the band full circle bringing the band as close as he could get it back to the original band. What a way to honor his brother. Many have felt the presence of Duane at shows and I felt Duane was very proud of his little bro.

Duane was so inspiring Because of his music I moved to Macon, Ga. and got a job at Capricorn Studio working for Johnny Sandlin and the Brothers. Although Duane was already gone, I babysat his daughter when mama A dropped her off at the studio to run some errands Although she doesn't seem to remember me (she was about 5 years old) Galadrielle and I had a lot of fun. We would crayon on paper and pound on the piano in the rehearsal room She was very bright and had curls in her long red hair. She was so cute! And Gregg, I could probably write a book about him. For me the truth was always In his eyes. When the guys would ask if he was doing alright, he'd say fine, but then I would look in his eyes and see that he wasn't fine at all. I saw him suffer for 25 plus years. He just couldn't come to terms with Duane being gone and he beat himself up for years for lying to his brother the day he died. As the years went by Gregg began to feel his brother's presence on stage stronger and stronger. Yes it was a miracle when he quit drugs and drinking, but I believe he got the strength to do so because he did feel Duane's presence. Also because he really did want to quit those bad habits and developed a belief that our journey doesn't end when we leave this world Well I didn't mean to go on, but for those wanting to know Gregg a little better, those were my observations. He was a great and gracious guy and although he was certainly easy on the eyes, he was never conceited and his fame never went to his head. He truly loved music which we know by the rich heritage he left us. In my heart ❤️ forever.

Duane is one of my guitar heroes. I was able to get to Macon, GA, pay my respects to Duane's accident scene (and Berry's right down the road), and their graves, as well as Butch and Greg, at the Rose Hills Cemetery in a hot summer flash storm. We got to stop by The Big House but it was closed. I was able to see ABB in May 1993 and it was an epic 3 hour show but RIP to all those in ABB.

I saw them as an opening act for Chicago. I was blown away by them, especially him. So so talented.

I visited the “Big House” in Macon, Georgia where the band lived when 1st starting out with their wives, girlfriends, roadies, kids. It’s a treasure trove of cool memorabilia and supposedly haunted. Had a “coming to Gregg moment” while asking which cemetery Duane, Berry & Gregg are buried in, had passed one on the way into town. It wasn’t “Rosehill” where I want to visit next time / but when I inquired with a lady who worked there the front door slowly creaked open & no one was there!? She brought “it” to my attention and the strange goings on there. The guy who sells t-shirts said he hears voices and footsteps all the time when he’s there - alone! I’ve experienced many things like this before so it wasn’t frightening at all - just a possible sign. Loved Duane’s fabulous slide playing with his glass Coricidin bottle, my favorite song of theirs is “Little Martha.”
