It's mentioned in some narrations of the Mahabharata that, King of Udupi, cooked food for the soldiers of Pandavas & Kuvravas during the 18 days Mahabharata war. Dose, idli, rice dishes, sambars were famous even then. The origin of all southern Indian food is Karnataka.

That time they offer price money if someone eat alone. But mostly it's served for families and they are enjoyed. Now it's popular in Dubai also. Hello. There was this Kannada( one of the many Indian languages)speaking chalukyan dynasty,which ruled present day Karnataka ( a southern Indian State). One of it's famous Kings, Someshwara-lll, had written a Sanskrit treatise named ' Maansollaasa' meaning' that which makes the mind happy. In that he has mentioned of 'dose'( what others call dosa) which were savored by people of the region since many centuries. The treatise also has mention of ' Idli,varities of vades,chutney, uppittu, rice dishes & sweets, consumed even today. That means dose 'ದೋಸೆ' has it's origin from Karnataka, a southern State........
