The late sixties and 1970s....Irish society hit the sweet spot. The economy was on the up....wages were rising, and there were lots of good-paying industrial jobs around. Crime was practically non-existent by today's standards. Communities were still incredibly cohesive. The summers were glorious. And those charismatic people who lived through two world wars were still around. Of course, there was a hidden darkness.....but it was hidden. Then the 1980s hit.......and everything went to shit.

That’s why so many emigrated in the 60s and 70s!

Total nonsense. The darkness wasn't hidden either. Walk a few yards off O'Connell street back then into some of worst slums in Europe.

Lovely vid, Dublin looked great and in fairness many of these landmarks have been preserved really well.

Having 'footageforpro' in the middle of the screen for the duration of the video renders it unwatchable. BIG FAIL.

Thank you uploader. What a poor decision it was to build on Wood Quay site.

In your face Apple and Tesla - Cahill’s had self driving cars back in the 60’s! Also love the blue skies, been a while since one of those was around.

Totally agree about the words in middle of screen.

The camera man must have been 6ft 6 and always on the top deck of the tram. Most of the clip was overhead skywards. I think more colourful back then but also hidden decay.

Really? Emigration was still high. We had brutal industrial schools, Magdalene laundries, mother & baby homes, hidden sexual abuse. Do you that was better?
@connoroleary5913 ай бұрын
@@johnkilcullen1051in 1964 there were just 4 murders in Ireland, there was nobody shooting up heroin on the streets. Children were not watching corn and creating corn on "smart" phones. The standard of education was higher, communities were safer and integrated. And there was little or no mental illness amongst young people. Yes, times have changed, but not for the better.
@johnkilcullen10513 ай бұрын
@connoroleary591 so you think it was better when we had a population just over 2.8 million population, widespread poverty slum tenements, mass emigration, small farmers existing barely above subsistence level, cruelty and abuse in the industrial schools, Magdelen laundries and mother and baby homes, do you? I don't. I think that, for all the problems we have now, our lives are immeasurably better now. I was OK back then because I grew up in a comfortable middle class family. But I was in one of those tenements as a kid. It was not a nice place for the unfortunate people who lived in it. Poverty and sickness were their lot.

Horrendous music, spoiles the video
@williamc65644 ай бұрын
On the contrary. It much better background music than the shitty diddle de dee trad crap depression inducting Irish shit played in pubs to match up the Irishness. Well done to the video maker who had the sense not to play over with rebel shit and put Dublin in a better light for the time it was.

Rubbish. Total fantasy. Dublin was a dirty impoverished city back then. A few yards off O'Connell were fetid slums. High unemployment and poverty everywhere. You obviously didn't see the place back then. Dublin is ten times better today. Stop being a bigot.
