Dublin Airport arrivals without passports

3,285 people arrived to Dublin Airport without a valid identity document in 2023, down from 4,968 people in 2022.
It is an offence under the Immigration Act 2004 for a non-national over 16 to land in the State without a valid travel document*
I asked why no prosecutions were taken. Offences are punishable by up to 12 months in prison or a €3,000 fine.
*The law applies to all non nationals except those from the UK and those arriving from the UK.

Well, you have to present a passport to get on a flight to Ireland, so the inability to produce said documentation on arrival in Ireland is indicative of an offence being carried out. Namely the deliberate hiding of identity from the authorities, presumably because those persons attempting to gain entry to Ireland have reasons back home that would make them not suitable. I wonder how many aircraft toilet systems have been bunged up by ripped up passports? To my mind, anyone arriving without the correct documentation (passport, Visa, etc) should be immediately returned from whence they came, no questions asked, even supposed asylum seekers. A genuine asylum seeker would not need to hide their identity.

What you need is an IT system where the scan of the document and the person's face is stored. This is vital. When someone turns up and claims to have no document, you can take a digital photo that can be compared against all Ireland-bound passenger data for the last 24 hours. If someone lit up a smoke walking into the terminal just off a plane then refused to give their details when caught caught, you could guarantee the cctv would be produced checked immediately identifying the plane they just got off and the person then identified and dealt with straight away, But potential criminals are let just breeze through then giving social welfare and accommodation

If we insisted that anyone flying into Ireland or GB before departure their passport details must be emailed to the country of destination . Otherwise they will be refused entry and sent back. The Airline will be fined £100,000 for every failed passenger. You can process if Asylum claimed knowing their history criminal record and country of origin.

Well done! But you made one big error/omission. We don't have a legal obligation to take in any asylum seekers... We have an opt out (along with fellow EU member Denmark) under the Lisbon Treaty. Denmark is now exercising their's as they realise it was a mistake to take in so many. And are having problems with integration. So this constant mantra from the Dail and media that we have an international legal obligation is in fact the big lie. As for a moral obligation we have already done far too much. At the expense of our own public services. The Govt's moral obligation should be to the Irish. The Govt. should serve us. Not dictate to us.

My mate was not allowed get airside, by Aerlingus. Because he had a damaged passport. (Defaced) slight tear on side. She said he would be sent back from other country, so he can't travel. You don't need a passport to enter Ireland
