When I was researching this video, the reviews were (mainly) negative. The bus was late or it never showed up at all, the drivers were unfriendly, there was no one around to help etc etc. i wasn’t that hopeful tbh.
But this is my experience and, as always, if is a 100% honest assessment of my trip, the posifives
, the negatives and in the end, ill give you my rating as to what i thought of fhe service overall.
If you’re debating whether to take the train or the coach, I hope you find this video useful. Thanks as always for taking the time to watch my videos. All likes, comments, subs are massively appreciated and it really encourages me to make more content for you all to enjoy.
Cheers for now.

Most of the negative reviews are about the 700 (Dublin Airport to Leopardstown vis CIty Centre) service which has had frequent cancellations and buses not running due to a shortage of drivers. The Belfast route has been recently extended to Derry following an acquisition of another company (Airporter) and the route SHOULD be fully operated using NI registered vehicles all being well. Since the route is the newest one and Aircoach spent a lot of money on it, they have been desperate to avoid cancellations at all costs on the route, so when they're short of staff out of the Belfast/Derry depots, they draft in ROI staff to cover, resulting in the Dublin depot being short, and dropped services on the high frequency 700.

Dublin Express which is a National Express brand is the best option for Dublin - Airport - Belfast, they use a fleet of new NX spec Levantes with much better legroom than Aircoach offers. There is also a Translink Goldline service on that route, I'd take either of them over Aircoach now.

The aerial mast seen at 8'25" was formerly used by BBC Radio Ulster on medium wave until it was switched off a couple of years ago. BBC Radio 5 Live and Talksport still broadcast on AM from this site using an aerial strung between 2 smaller masts. Originally owned by the BBC, the site was sold off to Crown Castle in the early 2000s and is currently owned by Arquiva. Incidently, the mast itself is a "modified" Blaw Knox of which there is only one other example in Europe. Don't know if they will try and preserve it as a piece of broadcasting history, although knowing our politicians, probably not.

Greetings from Dublin. Another great upload! I hope you had a nice trip overall and will be back again, soon to see us. One point on the train - it will take you probably an hour to get into Connolly Station from Dublin Airport, so the Aircoach to Belfast really is the sensible option. There is also, unfortunately, quite a bit of antisocial behaviour on the trains of late here. We have a big problem with drugs and youth crime. Some of it is quite serious and in-your-face. Dublin's Luas Red Line tram also can be problematic. All of Dublin's addiction and health services are located in the city centre, close to Heuston Rail station and there are a lot of drug addicts who come in and out on the Red Line Luas, where dodging fares is not difficult. You don't see much of this on buses - where you must pay on entry - and even then only on the local city Dublin Bus, specifically the ones servicing certain outlying suburbs which themselves have a reputation for bad behaviour (by a minority living there: most local residents are decent, and just as appalled by this as any Irish person or visitor). Most Dublin Bus services are fine however. Coaches here are always safe, and of a good standard. In my opinion they're usually better than the train. They take about the same time, and like the UK the fares are a lot lower.

You might also want to know that Translink (Ulsterbus) operate an express coach Belfast-Dublin Airport-dublin City Centre. The X1 stops at Newry, Banbridge and Sprucefield so takes a little longer (2 hours and 15 mins). The X2 is non stop. @@LetsMakeaTrip They're not, but it's cheaper. Years ago when USB ports were a retro fit you can understand it, but from new, it's all about cost cutting. Great trip, report. I did not try Aircoach yet, but may have to in the future. On my last visit to Ireland I was checking both it and another operator, Eireagle, which operates transfers from Dublin Airport. However, due to timings I decided instead to fly directly into Cork, where I was bound. In Cork, Aircoach actually stops 5 minutes by walk from Parnell Place Bus Station, as it departs from Lower Glanmire Road, close to the railway station. Since the Covid Pandemic, Aircoach has basically replaced the old Expressway X8 route, which was axed for financial reasons by Bus Éireann. I will be in Northern Ireland myself in December and will also try the local buses/coaches and trains to move around. As for coaches I have booked a seat on Bus Éireann's X30 from Enniskillen to Dublin Airport for €15, and will see if it lives up to the expectations of Expressway services, as I never had a problem with them save a small delay from Listowel to Tralee due to bad weather. As for the worst airport coach transfer I have ever travelled on, this was Terravision between Stansted Airport and London Victoria on the return leg about 9 years back. They were extremely disorganised and our bus to top it up broke on the motorway and we barely made it to our flight. Lucklily now Stansted Airport banned them
@WilliamDublin85

Terravision was indeed awful to be honest, they appeared to have no idea how to run a bus service. When I encountered them in Italy they were also exactly the same.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with Bus Éireann. Spent quite a bit of time travelling with them myself some years ago to places like Tralee and Cork too. Was an ok service I seem to recall - the worst bits being the state of some of the roads in the south west! I vaguely remember Terravision too - a very odd name for a coach company - always reminded me of the band.

@@LetsMakeaTrip Bus Éireann and Expressway were great overall, although they are often marred by Lateness. In any case, I noticed whilst in Belfast last December that competition was quite stiff for the Belfast-Dublin route, with services X1 and X2 of Translink Goldline Express, Aircoach's 705X (formerly part of the Derry-based Airporter) and Dublin Express' route 785 (a subsidiary of National Express). If you saw one of the latest videos of Steve Marsh, he actually got lucky to catch a Dublin Express service during a strike in which Translink operated no bus or train whatsoever.

One thing worth noting about both Aircoach and the Translink / Bus Eireann services is that they are NOT AIRPORT BUS SERVICES. They are actually Belfast to Dublin city link services that just happen to stop at Dublin Airport. Manys a time I've been waiting at Dublin airport to get a bus north (along with 30 or 40 others) and these buses pull up with only 3 or 4 free seats on them. I've even seen (and used) private hire coaches to clear the backlogs. Mostly they will stop at Drogheda, Dundalk, Newry, Banbridge and either Sprucefield or Hillsborough (if requested) along the way to pick up and drop off. Dublin airport is just another one of these stops.

@LetsMakeaTrip 8 ай бұрын
Are you saying Aircoach need to change their name Craig? I think I did mention that the service i was picking up started in Dublin City Centre but, for the purposes of this video, it was to do with taking a coach from the airport. Take your point though. Not sure about Translink I haven’t travelled with them yet.
@craigavonvideo
@craigavonvideo 8 ай бұрын
Don't think that the air bit had anything to do with the airport and just referred to an alternative way to get to Dublin instead of using trains. Unless things have changed recently, all services stop in Banbridge Newry Dundalk and Drogheda by default.

@@craigavonvideo None of the Aircoach services have stopped at any of those places for almost ten years now. If you pre-book a seat in advance you will not need to take a chance on whether you can get on or not, but I know that is alien to some people in Northern Ireland.

As someone who has used Aircoach for about 10 years, I think most of the complaints are in relation to what Aircoach was, and what it now is. It used to be a premium, luxury operator with premium, spacious interiors and service, that was well ahead of the competition in this respect, but over the last number of years has repositioned itself as a value operator with a 'pack them in' approach to interiors. Also the big focus on the 705X to Derry during an industry wide driver shortage has resulted in a knock on affect to reliability on the 700 and an airport service really needs to be reliable. Using AI Bots to reply to customer complaints also isn't a positive development.

Thanks for the info on that building - cheers. Totally agree about the early starts, I couldn't do it! Unfortunately, I don't have any concessions atm so I have to pay full whack on these videos.

Hi, Many thanks for vid. Could I offer a few comments? I take the 700 from Kilmacud to Dublin Airport at least 3 or 4 times a year, with about the same return journeys. Generally no problems. There is the odd cancellation (1 this year) but I generally allow 1 1/2 hours for journey tme so if 1 is late or cancelled I have always made it on time because the journey time is just on an hour. Every time I have travelled there has been wifi on board, so maybe they don't extend this to cross border bussses. Thanks again for the vid.

Hi Paul, cheers for the info. Sounds like the frequency is reasonably good on that journey and that is the right strategy isn’t it where airports are concerned. Maybe the wifi thing was just a ‘one off’ but overall, certainly no complaints from me. I’d do it again. All the best, Mark 👍

I've only ever gotten the air coach from Dublin airport to Dublin city centre, seemed fine to me, dunno about all the way to Belfast though

Hi Adrian, well I'm gathering from the comments on here that there's more than one option yes. Like I said, I'll surely find myself flying into Dublin again and I'll always get the coach from now on. I will try another option though next time, for sure.

Must be around 10 years ago and I was using Ulsterbus/Goldliner to get from Dublin Airport to Armagh. Finding the bus stand area is easy peasy but could I find the Goldliner stop, could I buggery!. Had to ring them up and ask where it was. Also had to complain when trying to book my ticket via my laptop it just wasn't possible. Again back on the phone to be told that it only worked on the mobile app. Done the same route last year and there is now a named bus stop with some information as well.

Good to see some things have improved Eamon. Hopefully these days it’s on Google Maps too as I do find the bus icons on there to be particularly useful and I’ve used them all over the world in different places. Tends to be reasonably reliable 😊👍

Doesn't seem that bad really, the coaches seem relatively nice for the sort of service they run a 7-8 minute delay on a journey taking almost 2 hours isn't too bad but judging by those reviews not everyone else had quite the same experience as you

That Aircoach company has just started a service in the English Midlands which should be just on your doorstep judging by your accent.I think that it goes from places like Leicester, Nottingham and Derby to Birmingham Airport and probably East Midlands Airport too?

Yep, their first English service, though it's a very different experience to the Irish one. They're exclusively using minibuses, running every hour from St Margaret's, Leicester to Birmingham Airport (with one pickup in Fosse Pk.) 9 pounds for a single online, or 16 on the bus. Hourly service, 7 days a week. That also includes a 15kg bag allowance, carryon small bag, and kids buggies.

I once sat on the Aircoach from Jurys Belfast to Dublin for 4 hours and I still can't understand it, their was no conjestion the driver just seemed to be going at a snails pace.

When the service departed from Jury's, which is many years ago, it wasn't an express service, it stopped at Banbridge, Newry, Drogheda and Dundalk on the way. When it moved to Glengall Street it became non stop express.

I waited some time not to have problems with the video quality and the subtitles Btw, Why isn't there even a currency exchange zone on the border with Northern Ireland? The border must have controls, like a customs zone, passport and freight checking and currency exchange (Ireland uses the Euro, but Northern Ireland uses the Pound Sterling) Something like the Channel Tunnel control on the English side, but with Ireland and Northern Ireland

Read up on the Good Friday Agreement and you will see why....
@kevinh96
@kevinh96 8 ай бұрын
It's because of the special status that exists between Northern Ireland and the Republic, it's all contained in The Good Friday Agreement. Some of the stricter measures haven't yet been implemented as they are proving controversial, and there are probably going to be some re-negotiations taking place. We could yet see a proper border but to be honest it would be a disaster, both economically and politically.
