They've had this system for donkey's years in the U.S. and Canada, but the difference is one could transfer for free to another bus with their ticket, and pre-paid tickets and tokens were also used in the fare-box. Had this been in from the 1960's, OPO buses would have been in, but of course instead of one flat-fare Dublin Bus kept the stage-fare system which was stupid. If the proper DART system had been fully implemented this would not have happened this way, and there wouldn't be different providers for different modes of public transit in Dublin.

Of course Dublin Bus classed it as a success. They got more money because they don't give change and very few people will take the time/effort to go to some office in the city centre to get their change. No reason not to have machines that could provide change. Vending machines have been doing it for many years.

The good thing about people paying cash those on leap pass and other payment passes can see how much There saving when cash is gone the Bus Companies will up the fare prices public will be paying more What's so wrong with having choices as long you pay the fare in the 1970s you could pay your fare with unused Postal stamps if you had no cash on you i wonder did Dublin Bus stamp this payment out
