The Roscommon v Cavan match was a shootout between 2 counties that have a tradition of high scoring encounters in the past 10 years and both will be in D2 next year and are about at the same level right now. Cavan are without their top forward Paddy Lynch but they didn’t seem to miss him too badly on Saturday. Roscommon have also been without a real emerging star forward for them (Ben O Carroll) for most of the league and championship so far so to get the 6 point win in a tight knockout game will give them confidence. However, there is no way they can expect to progress any further conceding 1-20. V a team at their own level so I am sure that next weekend will see a much different approach from The Rossies. Really disappointing crowd though (3,000+) for a knockout championship game only 15-20 miles from each county’s border, I can only put it down to the supporters low expectations of their team progressing any further than the last 12 because Roscommon and Cavan usually bring a much bigger following to their championship games.

I’d disagree on one point I don’t think that attendance figures are accurate it was a great atmosphere never seen Longford as buzzing

Yes, the figures announced are probably not a true reflection of the actual numbers in attendance, I don’t think children up to 16 are included and there were plenty of youngsters there it’s just that I would have expected the ground to be at or near capacity for a championship knockout game involving 2 local counties. Pearse Park capacity is given as 10,000, I hadn’t been there before and it’s a lovely ground and the pitch looked fantastic.
