I drained the oil this evening from my 09' 848 in search of clues for the source of a metal-chatter noise coming from the engine.

Also, my oil screen looked normal, no abnormal shavings to be found.

Hey track848, I just recently changed my oil, this is the 3rd time doing it myself and I found more then normal metal on the drain plug pretty much exactly like yours. Now this will be the first oil change since I did my two track days (12 sessions total) and I would think it would be because of that? I ride this bike around town so it's not a track day only bike. I guess I'll have to see when I do my next oil change which won't include a track day. It was fresh oil on the start of the track day as well.

+Other7777 It's completely normal to have some small pieces of metal on the drain plug and the screen. You'll probably find some liquid gasket on the pickup screen, too. This is all normal as long as there is not a much larger quantity, or big pieces. I believe the manual recommends that you check and clean the screen every -other oil change.

Is there a reason Ducati got away from using the metal gasket on the screen and going to a gasket sealer. Good video

steve ricci Thanks Steve; not sure why they switched. The liquid gasket works good, and if too much isn't applied it's not that messy.

Can I ask how many miles on the bike and how many track miles? Thanks

Hey Bill, sorry for the delay... at the time of this malfunction back in 2013 I had about 18k street miles and approximately 2k track miles on this bike... and by the way, the problem here turned out to be a malfunctioned crank end bearing inside the alternator-side crankcase cover.

I did the oil and put the stator on but now I have no oil pressure any idea

jd, I've been away for a while... did you figure this out? It's probably too much to go into on this platform, but if you haven't figured it out I would suggest visiting one of the Ducati forums and researching there or creating a thread for some additional input.

Track848 I’m waiting for the tool to take off the clutch cover and see if there’s anything there that could be clogging the oil passage hopefully something small and not major
