Awesome camera angles whilst riding matey, the 360 camera REALLY comes into its own for that kinda thing. I didn't realise the clutch mod would make such a difference at low rpm as far as rideability goes, very cool. I used to have a 916 as a race bike which I fitted a ramped ball bearing slipper clutch to, mainly as the engine braking was massive and I was always backing into corners after finishing my down shift, but that had a similar benefit at low rev cornering as well. Interesting.... Great video fella and a nice follow up to the mod 😁👍

Thx Andy, again a very worthful sharing of Your experiences with the V2 ! I always wondered about this issue since I bought my 1990 Supersports that came with the clutch slave in the clutch cover like The F1, Montjuich a.s.o. This version does not have this ugly rattling. There was some maintenance every 3000-5000 KM with the hydraulic piston, but it was never a big deal. Since 1991 Ducati turned the clutch around to control the clutch from the other side of the engine case. This treatment is the reason for the insane clutch rattling. A real technical regression because since then the disc package wasn't strutted to the clutch basket anymore but to the clutch core witch got a small flap. And this cause slackness between the friction discs and the basket. The clearance is 0,6 mm when the clutch is new. But it only needs aprox 6000 miles / 10ooo KM for the discs to hammer too much space ( more than 1 mm ) between basket and disc package. And the more the space expands, the louder the clutch rattles and the faster the parts get worn out. The Biggelaar mod is a very fine upgrade that prevents the discs to shatter the basket because it disengages the disc package from the flange of the clutch core. I made this modification on my 1198 SP after changing the AHK, witch doen't allow the mod, to a normal 1198 S clutch. It runs very quite now for over 40.000 miles. I would have needed minimum 3 new clutches since then without the modification but the clutch is still in perfect condition. And maybe You might be interested to hear that the clutch of my 900 Supersport from 89/90 runs since 128.000 miles with a distinguished sound and nice " ring the bell " when it gets declutched. BTW I replaced the clutch after the first 50.000 miles because it had some wearing after over 1000 laps on the Nordschleife ;) And there are still many who own a Ducati and think the hugly rattling is a normal part of the Ducati clutch. It isn't ! It's only a technical regression since 1991 that boosted the sales of clutch parts, haha ! Well done Biggelaar and Andy !

I have lived with the low rpm stumbling on my SS's and just figured that was just part of the Ducati "Character". Great to see there is a solution, even if its just after replacing my clutch with a slipper clutch. No rattling (yet) but it still won,t run at low rpm like yours. Great work and the footage is excellent!

Hi Andy, as I understand it, asides now the NW coast, we can still ride our bikes not just for essential needs and/or going to work etc. On the Motorcycle Riders of Tasmania Facebook page, there was info posted from both the govt and the Police acknowledging that riding your bike was considered exercise and good for your mental health. Hence I rode my Monster all over the place, inc a visit to see my elderly dad on Friday. Things may tighten up re this yet. It looks like the clutch modification works really well 👍.

Great vid man, damn that sound is intoxicating. I got used to my clutch it usually just wanted a little extra speed, sure, there was the odd time it was extra bloody hard to manage, Westfield carparks come to mind lol, but overall for me it added to the character of my bike. Plus I liked that other people struggled IF I let them have a ride lol. When I rode their ride, it just seemed boring, even if it was newer and faster than mine. Time will tell I guess, when I get mine back on the road I might be straight on the computer ordering that mod after my first few rides, I am much older now, I might prefer a slightly tamer over the raw wild beast it is 😀👍

Good question. That does reduce the clatter but doesn’t address all of the other issues that lead to damaging radial loading of the input shaft. In short the void between the basket and the hub still exists which allows the hub to flex on the cush drive, have a look at this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4Gmf32Fa8aLisU

Hi Andy, as I might have said before, I've just bought a 2004 ST3 (had an ST2 in the past) with a dry clutch and was wondering whether I would get the same improvements at lower revs that you found? She's quite noisy altogether and so, after changing the fork seals, I thought I might do this mod? So my question is : 1. Can it be done on an ST3? 2. How much is it, if possible in euros ? and finally 3. Does it help with the heaviness at the clutch lever?

Since I believe you are competent and respected in your motorcycle and engineering skills and experience (I think you know that is not sarcasm) and since you have this mod and know of the friction plate mod you could let us all know is there an advantage one way or the other, other than buck's, and if having to pay for the mod which would you do. Incidentally, I'm sure there is more than one Ducati owner would've been only too happy to send you a friction plate for free. (that is) Or maybe Toine could enlighten us before I send my 100 Euro or so to him for his mod.
@ANDY54 жыл бұрын
Toine was not familiar with the friction plate mod. Personally I view that as a hack. I’m not discrediting it’s worth but the reason why I never tried it was because I am not a fan of “hacks”. I have comfort in the fact that Biggelaar thought this through and addressed a number of shortcomings in the factory design. Ducati took up the space with a double steel disc arrangement, one of which was pressed to preload the pack. But this design makes the basket to inner hub void much more solid and moves the operating face of the basket which reduces the load placed on the input shaft by removing much of the deflection during engagement and disengagement of the clutch.

Just go to the last paragraph if you do feel like reading it all. Patrols in remote camping areas and urban areas In the past 24 hours, Tasmania Police have proceeded against a further 17 people for failing to comply with the directions of the Director of Public Health. Around the state, five people were arrested and charged with fail to comply with a direction of the Director of Public Health after being apprehended for offences including breach of bail, drug offences, assault and burglary. Twelve others have been summonsed to appear in court for failing to comply with the directions. Seventy nine people have been provided with advice or warned to return to their primary residence. “It is unacceptable that people are selfish enough to breach these restrictions, knowing the seriousness of this health emergency and the impact of COVID-19,” said Commander Rob Blackwood. “Unless it is essential, you should not be away from your primary residence and police will be speaking to you,” he said. Police have undertaken patrols and aerial surveillance of dozens of remote camping areas, coastal towns and cities to ensure people are not breach the COVID-19 restrictions. Patrols were undertaken on the West Coast, including many remote camping sites which are ordinarily heavily populated at Easter. Police report there were no campers in the area. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter yesterday covered a very large area of Tasmania’s coastline, focusing on traditional camping area and shack locations on the east and north east coasts, as well as targeted patrols of the northwest region focusing on Burnie , Devonport, Ulverstone and surrounding suburbs and towns. “The helicopter crew located several campsites, and where possible, landed and directed the campers to return home. “Overall in these locations it appears most people are getting the message - particularly in the remote locations where we would usually see it full of boats and campers. To see these coastal shack areas and some of the traditionally busy boat ramps completely empty is certainly something never seen during an Easter holiday period,” he said. “Covert and marked police vehicles, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, will continue to undertake patrols around the state, so if you’re away from your primary residence you can expect police to stop and speak to you about your movements.” Under the Public Health and Emergency Management Acts, there are penalties of up to 100 penalty units ($16,800) or imprisonment not exceeding 6 months for failing to comply with a lawful requirement or direction of an authorised officer.
