This is a video on changing both Ducati monster timing belts. It's a easy do it yourself job. People always panicked when it came to ducati and belts but there is absolutely no reason to.

It should be the same but I've never worked on one. Ducati scared people out of doing these jobs so that they could charge silly money. It's actually a fairly straight forward job. Either line up all the timing marks or use my method. Both works. Thanks for watching and please subscribe

Is that the belt change one? Funny enough I bumped into someone last week who had paid £1000 to get his belts done. Ducati spilled him the same story that no mechanic has the tools or skills to do it properly. Utter rubbish lol. My mate has this monster after and it had no belt issues at all. Thanks for watching

I don't think they kind anymore really. It became more normal for local mechanics to do it in the last 10 years or so. It was a tactic they used though to scare people into using them and they charged like £500. Thanks for watching.

Absolutely brilliant video! Just a little tip from the knobheads scrap shop, why not cut the new belt to make it easier to get on? Then superglue it back together, 🤓😖😖 seriously though a great and helpful video and I like the way you used the socket driver with the ratchet, believe it or not I hadn’t thought of that one for some reason? The older vids are a touch more me and less show however youtube like a little more show and less me lol. In the halfords advanced tools they do that brilliantly. It works really well and has got me out of trouble many times. Cheers David.

That's great. It's fairly straightforward really isn't it. Some people criticised me for this method but it's the easiest method to do because you don't need to find top dead center or remove the spark plugs. I'm really happy I've helped at least 1 person. Thanks

@@motorcyclerescuer I did find top dead centre and I used the paint.just to make sure.I also hear stories everytime I try to sell a ducati.how about the belts cos it's expensive bla bla.you know the stories.I asked my ducati shop in belgium.itwas 168 euro all in.but I went and did it myself after looking at your video.belts cost me 104 euro's.thanks all the way from belgium.👍

If you were going to do 1 or 2k miles on a road trip,what would you use..love the Monster,but Hornet looks comfy or something totally different.?..🤔

That's a good question, anyone who knows me knows I don't like long rides on bikes. Honestly I would use the yamaha thundercat or thunderace, however there are many bikes good for touring. The cbr600f is a good one especially the later fuel injection one. What's your thoughts?

Also the hornet is a very smooth bike but the monster is more fun. It has great torque and is brilliant in town. So possibly the monster for town but I also wouldn't use the hornet for longer journeys. I would want a bulky bike with soft seat and fairings. Possibly hand warmers.

Can do but not necessary, just check your timing marks when putting on and you will be fine. It's very straightforward.

Hi David, this was a good 3 years ago so sadly I'm not sure what belts I used. Knowing me though they were either genuine ducati or very good tried and tested after market ones. A Google search will find some and you should have plenty options. I hope this helps a little. Charlie

Hello. Really struggling to get the first belt on over the top cog. Any tips? Been at it for an hour and getting nowhere.

Hi, I found that I needed to get it onto the cogs first and then stretch it past the tensioners. Give that a try. Make sure your markings are all lined up when it's on. Let me know how it goes, I remember it being tight but I did get it done.

motorcycle rescuer hello. Thanks for the reply. I ended up completely removing the tensioner, getting belt on, and then feeding the tensioner behind the belt quite high up, and pushing it down into place. That was a ‘fun’ few hours. All done now though.

They are the same belts with the same number of teeth. You can count the teeth on the old and new if your concerned.

@@motorcyclerescuer Thanks, I'm going to do this first time and i don't want to spend too much money on this belts . I think the all same belts for ducati monster 600 - 620. I prefer to look at them once in a while then spend a lot of money for the original.

@@Adammen740 yes exactly, ducati say to change them every 2 years but that's silly. They easily last 5 years. So every year just pop a cover off and look at the condition. Make sure your marks are accurate and then transfer them to the new belts making sure you count the distance between marks. Good luck. Let me know how it goes

I believe it's exactly the same engine and process. You have to take your side fairing off first but that's the only difference. Im glad many people are saving the money and starting to do it themselves. Thanks for watching and please subscribe

Thank you very much the last one i tried doing was the 749 but it was much more complicated n i ended up paying over £400 for a ducati shop to do them but these look much easier to do hopefully.

@@hazelking3174 they are very simple mate. Mark the belt and cog on both sides, count the teeth between the marks, don't rely on it looking right you have to count the teeth then put it back on and tension it. When you tension it there is an app that tells you if the tension is right but basically at the longest part you should only be able to bend it 45 degrees max.

@@motorcyclerescuer my only worry is what if the belt rollers move n nock the timing out dose that matter or can you just turn them back to the position it was or is it just case of making sure the marks just re aline if they move sorry to sound stupid its the first time iv tried doing them n dont want to blast ahead without making sure im clear before risking my engine.on another subject entirely dose anyone know much about the ducati 750 ss senna

@@hazelking3174 that's a genuine question. Honestly they won't roll much but definitely roll a little. As in mm aside. You literally roll them back. Remember only 1 side can roll so the double attached to the crank dosnt. You put this back on first and line the marks and then turn the second wheel a touch and push the belt on. Even with the tensioner loose its still a squeeze which is good because that helps like it up. It's very easy to do and even easier when actually doing it as it feels more complex thinking about it. The hardest part is getting the side covers out of the tight space 😂
