Having been fortunate enough to borrow a Ducati Panigale V4s for several weeks I've been able to really get to know the bike in depth. In this video I show what it's like to ride the bike in various riding conditions on different types of road as well as discuss the cost of ownership of such a machine. To finish I summarise with the pros and cons that I have found out...if you're interested in the 2019 Panigale V4s, stay tuned!
Many thanks to Ducati UK for making this review possible.

As an owner of a 1199s, I've done endless research on the heat issue. It stems from the coolant pump barely circulating coolant when the bike is coasting or at low revs. The pump was designed to be most efficient when the engine is under high loads on track. I actually can't fault Ducati for taking this design route.

Graham Smith wouldn’t it be programmable if it’s a matter of cooling? Water pump and fan trigger temp stuff?
@grahamsmith2022
@grahamsmith2022 3 жыл бұрын
@@freedeworld it's doesn't "overheat",it's a Ducati characteristic,they're known for running hot in town and low speed,they throw out a lot of heat,the temperature gauge might read higher than a Japanese bike but they're not in the red zone, as you say the fan kicks in when the temperature does get a bit too high but nothing to worry about,it soon comes down again.
@RyanMcIntyre
@RyanMcIntyre 3 жыл бұрын
@@freedeworld It's not a setting as much as the engineering of the cooling system. You have to make design compromises, a system that flows enough GPH (or LPH in the rest of the world) to cool at low speed and low RPM would flow too much to cool efficiently at high speeds/high RPM. The water needs to be in the radiator long enough to radiate heat to the atmosphere, you can't escape physics.

For a prospective buyer it gives everything you could need, running costs, comfort, real world performance and practicability etc. Absolutely top drawer, I hope the manufacturers read the great comments you get. Never been a fan of Ducati but each to their own,a great real world review. My first bike after passing my DAS in 2006 was a CBR600F,had that for a year and then had a Super Blackbird for nearly eight years.Sold that and brought a Fireblade which was fantastic but very uncomfortable,I kept it for three and a half years before selling it and getting a Gen1 ZZR1400...kept it for 1 and a half years and now ride a 2015 ZZR1400 Performance Sport.

Heat is a problem with all powerful bikes and cars, the more power the engine generates, the greater the amount of heat is produced. These bikes are designed to be ridden fast, so crawling around town at low speed is not going to get rid of the heat fast enough... Great bike, great review...

Valid point about the insurance TMF. Insurance use to be the first thing you checked out before buying your new pride and joy but it seems nowadays it’s the thing that buyers do after they have placed their order and arranged the handover. The best (worse) example of this is the issues that BMW owners have had with insuring the R1200GS Rallye. The vast majority of insurance companies don’t recognise the model even though it has been around a while now. The nearest they get to is the R1200GSA Rallye. That one is worth checking out on line to see just how many people had issues with that. Great review Sir! David

Here is the deal. When necessary, the hidden miles to empty indicator will send a signal to the hidden gps. From then on it's hands off and the bike will ride itself the the nearest petrol station. This is the reason for the stratospheric price for this motorbike. 😂😎

Re lubing/adjusting the chain: because it has a single sided swingarm, getting it on a paddock stand is a doddle, and adjusting the chain is easy peasy, as one can't get the wheel out of line. I haven't done the chain on one of these, but reckon it's much the same as it was on my 916 many years ago. Thanks for a really good review, as usual.

Insurance is an interesting point here. I certainly agree with TMF about being indicative. I looked at a Panigale V4 end of 2019 (eventually bought a 2019 Honda Fireblade due to £). Insurance quote for the V4 as about same as TMF; circa £1300 for the year fully comprehensive. I'm in a better financial position now, so am fortunate enough to be considering a V4 again, but as a 3rd bike alongside the Fireblade and my Ducati Monster S2R. Insurance quote is now £545 for the V4. That being said, my circumstances have also changed; I'm now 30 years old whereas I 28 back then, I'm now married, and also a homeowner too. Things like this make an enormous difference here in the UK.

Might have been worth mentioning the lithium ion battery, which helps make the bike light but means you’ll need a dedicated charger. The tyres are nice and sticky, but you’ll probably need a new set every year, which I would have included in the likely running costs. Another great video.
@smckirk
@smckirk 5 жыл бұрын
Why? I have lithium batteries on all my bikes. They hold their charge much longer. That's one of the reasons for having them. If you are referring to the desulphation mode with some chargers, I just use one without the desulphation mode. But as i said they rarely need topping up.

Just to say (sort of related), if you only have a side stand there is a good little bit of kit that you put on the ground (front or back) that you roll the bike onto and it has two rollers on bearings so you can turn the wheel (front or back not both at once unless you had two). Great review MF. I liked how you considered a lot of the practical issues of riding the bike in real world conditions. You offered another perspective of bike review and brought a couple of things to my attention I hadn't considered. I test rode a V4s a few months ago and like yourself was a bit scared at the start but quickly grew in confidence and couldn't believe how easy and smooth it was at low speed, actually less jerky than my Duc Supersport. If only I could afford the bike and insurance, it has become my dream bike. Maybe if I save for 10 years I'll eventually have enough 😅

Fantastic fair review Andy! If only Ducati had sought your opinion when designing the bike. Some of those niggles (and too many for a 24k bike) should really have been addressed before launch. So much so that even if I had the cash, they would seriously make me reconsider. But I understand those who are besotted with the brand, so tolerant of failings which are unforgivable really. But now I think, I don't know a single owner of one. Perhaps the few on the road are all Demos. That's why they are so expensive! How quirky is that.

Hi TMF great video as always love the bike that would surely be a keeper. Just an observation, I noticed when you went to pay for the petrol you left the keys in the ignition probably not a good idea given the scourge of bike thieves in the UK. However keep up the good work. Cheers

I always just set things on a custom profile and have engine power settings all the way up but also traction control and such all the way up. One thing I’d love to try on the Ducati is the adjustable engine braking, as super sport bikes have such excessive engine braking for the track, it’s not so great for city driving.

Great review , crazy insurance quote though, im 31 , been riding 5 years , 3 years ncb and quoted £398 fully comprehensive, and considering id do alot of my own maintenance such as brakes, oil changes etc, then it makes it wayyyy more affordable than I anticipated!! I think all fuel injected bikes have to have a fuel warning light,as you have found,as running them totally empty is not ideal from a mechanical perspective.My 1198 puts on the fuel warning light on and then starts counting the milage from when light comes on,when it gets to 12 miles get ready to push it!😉😀

Enjoyed your review, I've got a base model and it's an amazing bike, it is flawed though, it hates being ridden around town as it has a horrible,grabby clutch and gets STUPIDLY hot!, for a trackday or a blast around the countryside though what a bike, only other thing is it doesn't sound as good as the RSV4 Factory it replaced in my case.

Yes I agree on all points, the sound is a bit disappointing, my 899 sounds much nicer! All Panigales get daft hot it seems....have you thought about fitting the throttle spacer to cure the snatch at low speed? Transformed my bike and fits all Panigales I think (search for "Panigale Throttle Spacer" to see my fitting video etc).....

@@TheMissendenFlyer Thanks I will look into it, it's more the clutch at low speed and pulling away I don't like too much to be honest, think we could both agree this bike would rather be 'making progress' it really isn't a good commuter. Have you ridden the Aprilia much?, that and the generation R1s sound the best to me, not that the Panigale V4 is bad sounding, it's just not as good.

Hey! Since the uk is having some winter issues with rain and snow (mainly rain), what method do you recommend for drying gear as quick as its safe to do? Like i know with leathers to let them dry naturally and they take a while, but what about textiles? Is it safe to have a source of heat blowing onto them (like a fan heater)? Any different methods for gore-tex gear? Very interested! Anyways, have a good day!

As I've mentioned before, the 2015 Multi was first with back-lit switches I think. However, if KTM can put them on the 790 Duke and as you say, Triumph on a lot of their models, Ducati have no excuse for not having it on their flagship, especially when they have the tech in house already! Cheapskates! ;) Ditto the fuel gauge - although Ducati's history with those is a bit poor (understatement).
