A beginner rider here and the 950s is my very first motorcycle. I've been having a blast with it since taking delivery in June!

The 950S and V2 are quite different; the V2 really is a track weapon that is "OK" on the street - the 950S is a street sports bike that is "OK" on the track. If people check their ego at the door, the SS is really the better choice for most people unless they're track aficionados or go ripping around most weekends with a crew of guys with 150+ HP rides. The SS has a comparable power curve and feel to the classic Ducati 916 - it's never going to be as iconic, but it's similar in nature to when sports bikes were fast, but not lose-license-immediately fast. Most people are just never going to get out of first or second gear on a V2 outside of a track or motorway, and barely even do on an SS. Most people buy Ducatis for bragging-rights and trying to 'look' the racer part, even if they aren't - the SS is going to be bought by practical-minded people, the V2/V4 by actual track types, or those who think bragging rights matter more than usability.

Very inciteful review and spot on with price point and its a hidden gem. Although I disagree with "entry level" sports bike. I think its more Sport Touring than Pani or Monster and wish Ducati would bring back a dedicated ST... cant get use to the look of a Multi and wont buy in there.

nice review.but if you want ducati to come to you with an in depth review offer (nothing major, just a 950S in white, plus of course a panigale v4 for comparison, at a nearby track with travel, food, accommodations covered), you should have edited out the part where you dropped the other bike; just sayin'
