Duchess of Edinburgh visits Ukraine in royal first since Russia’s invasion

The Duchess of Edinburgh has become the first member of the Royal family to visit Ukraine since Russia invaded more than two years ago.
The mother of two, 59, travelled to the country on Monday to “show her solidarity” with the men, women and children affected by war.
She met Volodymyr Zelensky and Olena Zelenska, Ukraine’s president and first lady, delivering a message on behalf of the King.
The trio discussed how best to support survivors of conflict-related sexual violence and the women peacebuilders who are working to ensure Ukraine’s recovery.
The Duchess later met survivors of sexual violence, displaced women and volunteers who are helping their communities cope with the trauma of the invasion by providing mental health care activities for children.

My wife is from Ukraine and it was almost impossible to get her to UK before the war. And when she came we were refused to rent a house by some landlords because she was a Ukrainian emigrant who they didn’t trust. Most Ukrainians have always been illegal residents in UK. Deportations were a normality for Ukrainians in UK. Our Ukrainian friend who is a citizen of UK had his Ukrainian daughter refused an entry to UK - home office explained - it is not good reason to visit her father. They feared that daughter is a potential economic immigrant and will stay here. Now British politicians and royals show such a comparison as if Ukrainians are their best friends. It is understood that they have to fight till the last Ukrainian. This is their mission in this global confrontation with Russia.
