I know the feeling brother,once you get in that state of mind the whole hunt has a taint
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I still had fun on this hunt but it’s definitely tough to stay excited when you miss the X by just that little bit
@andrewdawson3735 жыл бұрын
Sound like you bout to cry when you talking about missing the X 😂
@fowldownsouth59215 жыл бұрын
Andrew Dawson Ik but I’d probably be crying too 😂
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Hahaha I just watched that part again and it really does sound like I'm about to break down crying. I was definitely very disappointed to miss my chance at those birds, hadn't seen hardly any ducks for a week leading up to this hunt
@fowldownsouth59215 жыл бұрын
Virginia Outdoors Unlimited I feel you. I’ve haven’t seen that many ducks either

Nice hunt ducks when they land just out of range.

Thank you! It stinks when it happens but its part of duck hunting.

Do you like the Browning dirty bird jacket you’re wearing in the video?
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
I actually don't. It is not waterproof at all and is poorly insulated. I wouldn't recommend it as a waterfowling jacket.
@ericweber77075 жыл бұрын
Virginia Outdoors Unlimited I agree, looks like the same Browning jacket I have. I have not experienced rain in the jacket but I did actually get a bit cold at times wearing it. With the amount of layers I had on, I should not have got cold. The primaloft insulation it claims to have is a bit of a joke 😑

Snow storm messed them up
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
It certainly didn't help us at all, froze up a lot of the swamps I hunt and sent a lot of November birds south

Hey Thomas like your videos don’t know how it is out there in Virginia but up here in MN we’ve bumped 2-3 hundred plus birds out of spots and set up anyway and had some of our better hunts so maybe next time make the move and wait for them to come back ! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It is spot dependent on if that works here in Virginia, I have a couple spots that the birds will come back if you bump them. This spot however is not one of them, I've missed the X in there a couple times now and jumped birds in there just a couple times paddling around in the morning. Not one of those times did more than 3-4 birds try to come back in afterward. I don't know why this is but for some reason once the birds get up off that spot they don't come back.

Why you shoot wood ducks?
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Cause we have a lot of them in Virginia and they're legal to shoot. Limit is 3, wish I could've got my third.

Like Chase said pretty much anywhere. I've hunted from the blue ridge to the bay this year and just about everything in between.

I use PVC line and L weights, I'll be making a video on it in the offseason

Another good video Thomas. Like your attitude! What can the birds teach me today. Been a web footer since 1953.There are so many pieces to every hunt's Big picture puzzle.

Thank you! I really love that aspect of waterfowling, I often relate it to chess when talking to my buddies. So many different intricacies and also a lot to learn.

How far on average do you paddle to your spots?
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Around 1 mile I'd say, some spots can be up to 3 miles and others are only a couple hundred yards or I can drag my kayak all the way in.

Nice hunt for no scouting , I shot a mallard and a goose Monday, goose was 14.3 lbs and the mallard had a bullet proof vest on lol.he cupped in I shot him and he glided over to a cove hid in some rocks I found him he was still alive had shot in his head and all over his body rang his neck twice didnt do it so i stuck a finisher in his head and he still didnt die till the second finisher. It was crazy never had a duck fight like that. Keep the viedoes coming
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Thank man! That's crazy, I've had a few mallards over the past couple years give me hell. They're will to live is pretty insane.

Missed the x by a hundred yards??????? What?
@HokeOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
It's hard to really explain but in that area the birds were stale and really keyed in on one specific hole. I had a lot of trees separating me from where they wanted to be so a quick move to that hole wasn't really an option.
@carsondinning43545 жыл бұрын
Virginia Outdoors Unlimited ok thanks I was kinda wondering
