DUCK HUNTING 2020 - Virginia OPENING DAY (Mixed Bag)

Opening day for the 2020 November duck split has arrived in Virginia and with a good front rolling in the day before hopes were high. We headed out to a public lake to target a mixed bag of duck and geese that I had found scouting. There ended up being six of us in the blind for the morning as we had another couple guys come into the same spot we wanted to hunt and decided it would be best to just setup together. Lots of mallards and wood ducks flew early but we were able to pick off a few and the ringer flight was good later in the morning. Hope y'all enjoy and be sure to subscribe if you did!

Awesome hunt Thomas! Went out yesterday and had 3 groups of mallards work us but that was it. Cold in the am but warmed up. Still not any major ice up here in VT

Much different conditions here in Northern Minnesota. Ice coverage on most water bodies and season closes on Tuesday already. Nothing but goldeneye up here this time of year, good luck on the rest of your season!

SC- Saturday 2 man wood duck limit. Today I floated a backwoods creek and killed 3 woodys and a drake Green Wing from my kayak.

Thomas I have an answer to your hen ring neck groups. I have a place up on Catpoint creek and we usually shoot our limits off ring necks. So in November early December the hens stay grouped up but as the season goes on the darkes group back up. Great vid

I think you'll have a blast out here in the PNW, shooting 7 drake mallards in a day is something not a lot of people can say, also the saltwater hunts can be very interesting aswell

Hunted flooded corn across from Williamsburg, had teal and mallards and pintail come in in October. Now everything comes in 30 minutes after sunset and 15 minutes before light

Damn that's tough. I've been lucky enough to hunt some impoundments in Charles City and saw the same thing. They figure out quick when they need to hit those impoundments to be safe. Wait till a rainy day, y'all will get them then

Thomas, how do you get such a good video in low light conditions? I can't seem to get any decent videos when hunting at the beginning of shooting light.

The GoPro Hero 8 (the 9 too I'd assume) has much better low light performance that the older models. I also typically increase the brightness somewhat in post production for that first 15 minutes of shooting light

Arkansas opener was this weekend and hardly see a thing lmfao mostly just wood ducks. I’m in (West central Arkansas On lake Ouachita). Hopefully up north it gets cold AF and get some duck moves south.

Check out the “find wildlife VA” map online it has all the public land in the state on it and highlights what tends to be good for waterfowl

Haha we actually just swapped cause I moved down to Texas for the next couple months. I’ll try to make a video on that when I get back to VA in February. OnX or BaseMap are great tools to locate public or private places. Nothing can replace spending a morning exploring an area though or windshield time

I'm typically using OnX or Basemap. I just turn on the public land layer and start looking on the satellite image for spots that look good. Nothing can replace in person scouting though. I almost always spend a morning exploring an area before hunting it

Finished up the South Dakota duck season at 139 ducks. Kinda sad that I have to go South for the Holidays because all of the birds are still up north
