Finally made it out in the kayak for my first duck hunt of the year here in Virginia. I paddled into a public land spot that I have hunted in the past and hoped for some luck. Conditions were around the mid 20s with no wind, some ice was beginning to form in some areas and I was able to get into an open patch of water with my decoy spread. Before legal light I had wood ducks, mallards, and other ducks flying around with some landing in the decoys not 20 yards from me. As soon as legal light hit waves of mallards began circling and landing in my decoys. I was able to pick out all drakes in the early shooting light and paddled away with a limit of fat mallards. Couldn't have worked out any better for the first hunt of the year, hopefully as the season moves forward the migration will bring more species down. Hope you all had a relaxing Christmas and enjoy the video. Cheers!
